Everyone always asks “where is Kratos?” But no one ever asks “How is Kratos?”
myth kratos is a ok
game kratos: *PTSD*
Or when is kratos
I’ll have you know that God of War 2018 is all about “how is Kratos?”
What about why is Kratos?
Why is Kratos
"not that God of War, not that God of War, not that God of War, not that Gardevoir"
absolute comedy, new sub here
I love Pokémon reference.

@@RandomStuff0714 same here
ummmm, 😳
And here I assumed Kratos was *completely* made up.
... I'm just gonna head cannon that the Ghost of Sparta isn't the Daemon Kratos but rather was *named* after him.
Of course he is'nt. Even the developers confirmed it.
What..what..what dose that mean? History is soooo wierd yet cool. Like who came up with this all? And I thought atheists beliefs were unreasonable!
@@Kooldood0874 What
@@Kooldood0874 the ancient Greeks saw the gods and interacted with them, they couldn't be all lying so my guess is that they were aliens
@@Kooldood0874 What
So daemons are beings personifying abstract concepts and "words", like there would be one representing hunger or itchiness. Does that make Morpheus a daemon, he represents sleep.
Probably. I am not mythology smart enough to say if it's true or not.
From what I gathered about their description (here and in other media) gods have power over what they represent, so (for example) Neptune can control the sea in some capacity, Hephaestus can invent and make stuff or give inspiration to people, etc. While daemons only represent what they embody, like a bodybuilder could represent someone who is the paragon of strength, but couldn't have the power to make other people stronger 🤔
But that's only what I understood over the years, I could be wrong 🤷🏼♂️
That makes it a bad movie lel
Morpheus is a god associated with sleep and dreams, but it's Hypnos who is the personification of sleep.
There's many daemons (a type of god) who are personified ideas, like Ponos (toil), Apate (deceit), Geras (old age), Thanatos (death) etc. Most of the ones that are children or grandchildren of Nyx (night) are associated with negative aspects.
@@CM-ss5pe That's the one Hypnos, I switched them up.
To be fair I always kinda assumed Kratos was made up because I'd never heard any stories about him. It does make sense to turn a very minor figure into a main character for a fictional story about a pantheon.
The connection between both is purely in name only, and was a coincidence at that. The devs of GoW have admitted they only found out about Kratos the daemon after the fact.
@@PandaXclone2 ok the name isn't really the only connection since both of them are unmatched by strength with the mythological kratos being power/embodiment of strength while the game counterpart is very strikingly similar at that plus later in the games kratos obtains wings and goes against zeus which is ironic since in the myths kratos is one of the winged enforcers of zeus as well as cratus imprisoning prometheus while in gow 2 kratos frees prometheus..... the more you know..
Actually the game creators DID just make him up, and only learned that there actually wAS a minor god by that name after the release.
It was made up to have a nice and long story. I knew that because I live in Greece but I didn’t know that people outside of Greece actually believed the games tbh 😅
Because he is made up
I actually never knew the difference between demons and daemons.
It’s actually pretty interesting.
I think it's actually theorized that demons do indeed come from daemons, borrowing the greek word due to how similar in terms of the whole "representing certain aspects" thing demons in Judeo-Christian-Islamic beliefs are.
in latin and Greek the word "Daemon" means something like "spirit". All magically beings were Daemons basically, up to and including the gods themselves. Its easy to see how the idea of "pagan divine magical being" could become "evil creature of darkness" in later christian belief
There's a difference.
@@DnN5481The word demon comes from the mixture of two words daemon (minor spirit) and deimos (deity of dread and panic). In modern Greek devil is written daimonas or daimonio, incantation that demon probably came from deimos.
Christianity!
we've answered the "where's kratos?" question but the real intellectuals ask "where did he go?" or "why is kratos"
this comment reminded me of the time in infinity war where the guardians of the galaxy argue with iron man, spiderman and doctor strange about gamora
But really no one gives the sympathy to say "how's kratos"
But when is kratos?
I gonna do you one better what is kratos

"No, not that God of war, or that God of war, or that God of war, or that Gardevoir"

History is interesting and complicated but thanks to your animations always funny and easy to understand
Ye
well i think you mean mythology not history, cuz... i don't think zeus was real, if he was, the entire population of greece would be super humans
Lmfao this is not the history you learn in college. There's difference
That's like watching a 10 min video on quantum computing and saying "studying this was hard but you made it easy"
what about atreus
I love how zelus was shaking- no buzzing uncontrollably fast even while beating up Kronos. 😂
He is the god of zeal after all. He was very excited
1:10 that pose and Jordan's tho
It's pretty ironic that the mythological Kratos is straight up the kind of someone GoW Kratos would want to kill.
Could you do Aztec mythology because their gods would look ridiculous in your art style also an episode on Ragnarok would be cool
me want.
More history lesson of Greek can you try explaining the difference between Greek and Roman mythology
Oh yeah thats a good one
Basically Rome was like I like that God he's my God now
@@michaelmoore2969 thanks for explaining it
Roman mythology is basically Greek mythology with a couple of OCs added to it.
Oooh that's a nice one
Huh
Ngl I didn't know there actually was a Kratos in the mythology. Thought he was entirely an original creation for those games. The more you know.
He actually was an OC, the devs didn't know about the mythic Kratos when they made their Kratos
He is an original character the name is just a coincidence. Kratos or Cratus was the god of strength so he was just named after him. It’s like being named after someone in the Bible
@@ameirgrant6116 ok the name isn't really the only connection since both of them are unmatched by strength with the mythological kratos being power/embodiment of strength while the game counterpart is very strikingly similar at that plus later in the games kratos obtains wings and goes against zeus which is ironic since in the myths kratos is one of the winged enforcers of zeus as well as cratus imprisoning prometheus while in gow 2 kratos frees prometheus..... the more you know..

Fun fact, when making God of War, the team didn't know Kratos the god/daemon was a thing, and the name connection was a complete coincidence that they just didn't change.
"Or that gardevoir" killed me dude. I found about you ten minutes ago and I already subscribed. Keep it up pal
Congrats on the heart
"Or that Gardevoir"
THIS is the kind of writing I am here for o(>t
Also, even though in the game series Kratos hates the gods, in Greek mythology he was literally one of the first gods to side with Zeus during the Titan War. He even sides so much with the gods that he regularly commits atrocities in their name, excusing himself for his brutal actions by saying "it is the way of Zeus"
YES!!!!!!! MORE GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Bro we need more greek mythology vids
Now, I'll use this video as a response to those people mixing a video game to actual mythology
Thanks, Jake!
This channel is so underrated yet so high quality
WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE MORE SUBZ
I suggest episodes dedicated to one god like this one
I had forgotten how much i love your videos!
For anyone interested in their biological relationship, read the following. So Kratos’s grandfather, was the giant named “Oceanus” as shown at 0:26. And Oceanus was the uncle of Zeus, (Cronos’s brother). Making Styx, Zeus’s cousin, and Styx had 4 children, (one of them being Kratos). Meaning Kratos is Zeus’s “first cousin once removed”. If you don’t know what that means… I don’t either, so go look it up.
It's easier to just say "second" cousin and so forth (3rd, 4th, etc).
If you want to mess with your mind, try looking up what a "double" cousin is (and triple, quadruple, etc). The countries where this is most prevalent are in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia.
@@kevinsiu4956ok thanks
1:52 I whould like to see a full video about the story of Prometheus

Cool editing, fun narrative. Keep it up!
Thanks for the interesting video Jake.
Dæmons are also just random spirits like (for example) naiads or dryads or oneiroi. Really it's anything that's not a god or physical monster or a human. They have more in common with youkai then the modern demons.
Demons is a word that was used to "demonize" other religions' concept of daemons by Christian missionaries
Yesss more Greek mythology let’s goooooooo

hey what about asain mythology like wukong feel like it would be funny with your channel
As someone who has read Edith Hamilton and Robert Graves Greek Mythology books cover to cover several times as a kid, I couldn't for the life of me remember ever seeing Kratos mentioned anywhere when most of the lore was still fairly well archived in my head 20+ years ago.
I can still remember the names of the 100 handed ones off the top of my head even now -Briarus, Cottus, Gyes (sometimes spelled Gyges too), but drew a huge blank on Kratos. I'm guessing the creators of the game just randomly chose a Greek name and happened to get lucky. Appears that Kratos is barely the equivalent of a Hollywood extra.
Edith calls them Force and Violence. Leave it to her to leave out so many things.
Dude, that Guardevoir-pun. Genius.
If you're doing greek mythology characters from video games, it'd be great if you could make a video on Zagreus from Hades.
zagreus was a real greek figure tho

To be sincerely honest in my humble opinion without being sentimental of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view and without hiding any thoughts in my mind and without lies,to the actual truth with my clear open mind and clean heart, expressing what ever is embedded inside me for a long time which I didn't say just because I was nervous. But Today, by gathering all the courage and motivation, I just want to say that I actually feel and think that I have absolutely nothing to say.

Finally!, A Greek Mythology Video
I love you vids not gonna lie
Isn't it more accurate to describe Ares as a god of general violence since Athena's got the wartime strategy angle down?
Ares is the soldiers war, the people who do the actual combat. Athena is generally the officers, the strategists.
I thought Ares symblozises violence, wrath and other bad things of war while Athena symbolizes strategy and tactics( and maybe glory?) Of war.
From what I know Ares is the God of war and Athena is the God of wisdom. People often get confused because Athena got involved in wars and she has a spear and stuff like this. But let me say it this way. Athena will never choose war over anything unlike Ares. She's a warrior where there is no other choice!!! Correct me if I'm wrong
@@stavroskodjapashis4075 I mean she competed against Hera and Aphrodite just for a golden apple, so it's fair to assume she's prideful sometimes
Of course! But that doesn't change the fact that Athena is the god of wisdom! She is a warrior so yes she is proud but still

I appreciate the video on Kratos even if he doesn't have that big of a role in Greek Mythology, I also appreciate seeing my Kratos comment in the intro
What about zagreus?
It's complicated
Now do kratos game lore
The boy is back
hey you're back dude it's been some times
at 0:16 on x2 speed he looks like he's dancing
I heard a story of Baldur waking up after ragnarok, does that mean ragnarok isnt the end of norse mythology, if so what happened after ragnarok
Basically in ragnarok two people hides in igdrasil and the world resets
But with new gods in charge, one of them possibly being the Christian one. Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions mentions this in one of her videos iirc
Basically, after Ragnarok, the world is prophecied to essentially be "reborn". It's similar to how in Christianity there will eventually come a day when all the faithful will vibe in Heaven forever.
Yay more myths!!!
You should do something like this again such as something about phobos eris, and desmiois or just random gods no really knows of
here's a interesting question: how well do you think the god of war Kratos fits into Greek mythology?
He killed them all and he will kill them all again if it's young Kratos
@wargames Zeus didn't kill kronus as God's , Titans, or primordials can't die
@wargames actually Uranus didn’t die he is still very much the sky but Cronus did dethrone him
