Excellent visual aid to help those of us that can't quite make out all of the audio descriptions. Thanks Gus, Chris, and the Animation Team.
I enjoyed this more than Air Crash Investigations.
With Air Crash Investigations it’s drawn out and filled with unnecessary dramatic pauses.
Gus was informative and straight to the point, and a Chris was asking questions that a regular viewer may ask who are not familiar with Aviation lingo.
I actually love they dynamic they have because of exactly that. Chris even helps to remind him to say the complete acronyms sometimes too. ♥️
The main reason I love ACI is both the dramatization of the crash itself (and leading up to it), but the actual crash animation and graphics. They're never gory, but they show (as close as they can) how the airplane came apart. Like the Air Florida 90 vid.
I think I *LOVE* this animation style! Totally suits Gus and Chris and the visuals are very helpful for depicting the technical info. Gotta check this out now.
Wow, this was an incredibly concise rundown on a plane crash, I actually felt like I understood everything (Well, I mean if Chris can anyone can.) You can tell how much Gus digs this stuff and the animation was technical and informative too.

Good job, I'm in aviation and often see videos and other media where they just get alot wrong but clearly gus has done enough research to have a pretty good understanding of his topic. I'm not familiar with the specific type of autopilot in use but aside from that I'd say this is all pretty close to spot on. 1800fpm is a bit fast but certainly something that can be managed to allow you to get back to a normal profile, the master caution is kinda something that tells you "this might become a problem if you don't sort it out" but often when it comes on things can be brought back to normal. It's unfortunate that they weren't as aware of their pitch attitude and speed as they could have been, perhaps they fixated a bit on the unusual descent.

there is something called getting slam dunked, but there is no such thing as a slam dunk landing... if there was such a thing it would be unsafe and we wouldn't do it. Getting slam dunked just means you have to get down fast, I have done it many times and its not a big deal. I have flown in and out of SFO many times in a 747.

Worth mentioning that Gus has been putting many hours in a Cessna to get his PPL since this episode and has learned a lot.
I feel like this episode ended before the full conclusion of the story.
It didn’t end well… Asiana 214 is the flight being discussed.
There isn’t a lot more to it really, they remained low and slow until they landed short of the runway with the trail striking the sea wall.

the explanation was easy to follow even if you don't know a lot about flying, the information was succinct and clearly well-researched, and the animation was a great visual to understand what was going on! Well done.
So educational! A very refreshing change! Does Gus have a pilot's license? He was very eloquent in his explanation.
He's taking classes since a couple months back, but when they started the podcast he wasn't, and made very clear that he's just an enthusiast about this kind of stuff and not a professional.

yeah, the details are all really good and accurate stylizations (AutoPIlot Controls, Pedestal Controls, even the ILS antennae), with the exception of the runway markings @ 0:37, which has fallen victim the trope of just putting dashed lines all over the place. They could have gotten away with just a set of piano keys (longish thin stripes that run parallel to the runway) at the threshold and a centerline, instead they got this weird road looking thing cutting perpendicular across the threshold. Not too bad since that's my only complaint besides the kinda abrupt ending

I don't care about aerial mishaps, accidents or crashes in any way. But watching these animations are so informative and well explained that I just cannot help but binge them!
Oh geeze, I can only imagined what happened! A half mile out, 128 feet above their target level and descending at about 1800 feet per minute! Must have crash landed inside of 15 seconds...

Does aviation us metric in other countries? I believe English is the standardized language for aviation so I would be surprised if they have a standardized measurement for flying too

@@danielpopp1526 Absolutely NOT. 1 Nautical Mile is equal to 1.852 km. You cannot convert km to knots. You cannot convert nautical miles to knots. You cannot convert inches to knots. You cannot convert meters to knots.
Knots are not a distance unit. Knots are a SPEED unit. Specifically, they are Nautical Miles per Hour.
"Knots" is NOT a shortening of Nautical Miles.

As a military pilot, this is awesome to see the amount of detail in an animation covering getting too low and slow on final. I've listened to black box down for sometime now and really enjoy seeing the scenarios brought to visuals. Definitely a great learning tool for flight instructors to use as teaching aids.

Plane I think was a loss and it was two fatalitys as well. Two chinese girls that became ejected from the airplane due to the crash homever they could have survived if they had used thier seatbelts
The only problem I have with this video is that the graphic for the angle of attack says it increased from 2 to 7 degrees, yet the graphic itself was showing 25-30 degrees of pitch viewed from the side.
Fascinating. Why don't they just turn autopilot off when landing?

OK, everyone here all saying this is amazing, really amazing. Yeah it’s amazing, but what is this? It cut off before the crash in to the seawall. So is this like a teaser to go watch the full show or a snippet? I’m so confused.

My question is - as the pilot, how do you not notice that your nose is pitched too high? I assume there are indicators telling you this information or you just feel like something isn't quite right....I dunno. Weird.
I don’t understand this, as someone who flies small general aviation airplanes, why not just disconnect the autopilot and push the nose down and add power as needed?

Good video but the "freedom units" for measures got me really confused...
Commercial aviation around the world uses knots and feet, the exception being Russia I think. I fly from Europe so I'm well used to the metric system, but I'd find it confusing in aviation. It's all about frame of reference.
