      Maxx Kroes exactly. And I think its super important to remember that a lot of people simply DO NOT WANT their furniture in brown, red, orange, or any other variation of any color + brown. Natural/stained wood tones absolutely have their place, but I would be wholly uninspired & withdrawn from my furnitures esthetic if it was all just brown. And I have nice furniture, which ironically two of the dressers are a dark mahogany wood color haha but the rest of my furniture, including my kitchen cabinets are not. The bottom I stained carbon gray, so it’s natural wood finish still, and the top I painted white & it’s fantastic. I love it. It brightens my whole space & ME up. It feels so much better, like sunshine in my kitchen everyday. That’s the difference paint makes. The solid oak cabinets were lovely, that’s why I kept them, but the bright med-orange color on them was not. It actually mad me embarrassed of it to the point of not using the kitchen light! Lol stupid I know, it was irrational & I’m aware of that, but I digress. Painting furniture is not some unholy sin against the holy wood gods lol. It gives the piece life & a place in someone’s home & life. And THAT is all that matters in the end. If a tree has to be cut down to make this stuff, the least we could do is make sure we throughly enjoy it, in every capacity. If you are happy with your piece, you will treat it with pride & it will last a lifetime with you. Not saying stain & wood finish is not gorgeous, Bc it is. I just don’t knock painted pieces either or call them a shame or “lesser” just Bc they’re painted. It might not hurt the woods feelings lol but it might hurt the owners feelings if it’s a piece they thoroughly enjoy & take pride in. 🤷‍♀️ js
      Whoops! That’s looong... I’m leaving it tho Bc I don’t wanna read & edit & blah. So enjoy, or don’t, doesn’t rly matter to me. Happy weekend, peeps!
      p.s I know u didn’t say anything about any of this, it’s more of a quasi-response to the op & subsequent repliers as a whole. Just wanted to let u know that it wasn’t meant to be like in defense of something anyone said. Haha. I agree with your point (great point) 100%. 🤗

    Coffee tables are rectangular, cocktail tables, round. Often cocktail table placements are with 2 or four chairs around them, while a coffee table is with a couch.

      I have a rectangular cocktail table -- as with the one in the video, it is stamped "Cocktail Table" on the bottom. It is a very different style from the one in the video. Mine has covered compartments at each end, which which are hinged on the upper ends. On one side of the lower interior platform, there is a decorative railing about three inches tall. The table belonged to my grandparents and dates to at least the late '60s (I was born in '68, and I can't remember a time it wasn't around). I've had it in my home for probably 12 years. I theorized that it is called a "cocktail table" because of the era in which it originated -- the early James Bond era, to my mind -- where enjoying a cocktail was "in" in a big way. Interestingly, my grandparents were never the sort to drink cocktails, and I don't drink alcohol at all. But I love the table. It has been painted in the last 20 years, but I hope to restore it one day, maybe after my children are out of their banging-around stage.

    I love mid-century modern! It’s what I grew up with. And now it’s a big thing even with the younger crowd. I just wish I still had all our old furniture. Although I do have our dining room set. It would have been better if it didn’t have a solid permanent formica top. It was our kitchen/dining room table, and with kids mom pick it because of that. And thank you for not “painting” these!! That would be criminal and make me cry.
    Also, in another video of yours I got good tips on repairing it. The legs on the table and chairs are getting wobbly. Now I can see what i can do. Never thought of using glue. Thank you!

    Being a child from the '60s I would say that coffee tables got renamed cocktail tables during that time. it was just the trendy thing to do. One person mentioned in another comment that it had to do with the shape. I don't believe that is the case. It simply had to do with the time period. I remember my mother commenting on that when I was a child. They were not drinkers and she thought it was silly to call a coffee table a cocktail table. Love your channel! Keep up the good work rescuing this beautiful furniture. I need to get at my 1960s Lane coffee table and end tables and get them refinished.

    You've really hit your stride with these videos. The production is top notch, reminds me of when I was a kid, coming home to watch some after school PBS shows. Fantastic.

    I have watched a couple of your videos and added them to my play list. Lots of information given in a calm and laid back way that is easy to understand and retain. Your initial introduction is pleasing, by letting me know how your day begins in Minnesota. A Fan from Scotland.

    Very well done. Reminds me of my days finishing picture frames I built for artists and galleries in San Francisco during the 80s. We stainedcit with something that filled the porous grained woods like walnut.

    Beautiful little rescue. I love Mid Century furniture. And we got a little peek of Milwaukee Road Steam Locomotive #261 (I think) at the beginning!

    I got a new set of speakers, so I had to check out how my favorite narrator sounds in stereo! Nice!!! I searched for this particular video for fifteen minutes, because I remembered that I loved the intro when I heard it the first time. 😁

    I have three lane Acclaim series tables. I think I am inspired to refinish them. It doesn't seem that difficult. I don't have any kind of power sander, though.

    What a beautiful work... I am totally in love with your work on this table, the result is stunning. I have ruined some tables before, mostly with bad painting job that peeled, several tables actually and now I want to redo two of the tables I kept...First is a 101 years old dining table and the other is a mid century cocktail table too. I am learning a lot with you just hope I can do something close to what your did to this cocktail table. Not sure I will find all the supplies you mention as I am in Europe, but I will try... Thank you

    I’ve been watching a number of your videos and have a question, when you take apart the project you’re working on in this case you were taking the legs off why would you not strip it at that point would it not be easier rather than trying to get around corners and taping it?

    • @timandshannon03
      @timandshannon03 Před 4 lety +2

      I would guess in this case, the legs were in pretty decent condition as far as staining goes, and just needed some minor repairs, so it would kinda be overkill.
