I like how the sense of friendship and brotherhood is still there, even when you are competing.
This channel is quickly becoming indispensable to my mental health. Putting it on while Im at work, Koa's peaceful vibe, the serene sounds of the ocean and the thrill of surfing really help calm my headspace. I dont know why that is but thank you Koa!

@@jmj3391Koa was heads and heads was what came up. The winner of the flip gets to make the call but Nathan told him that he was heads so he goes first, Koa lost by winning. I don't think it was intentional just a morning fog mistake.

He wasn't speaking his mind. He was repeating what he happened to be hearing around town...
As a sponsored athlete in my youth let me give you some advice. Saying conditions suck or the waves are $hitty is not going to get you any sound bites and is not what your sponsors want out of you. Jamie was much more professional in his approach saying that "the conditions were tough, but you make the best of what the ocean gives you." You need to remember that your sponsors want someone positive and resilient in adversity. You are the face of their brand.
You need to work on your competition surfing, every point counts. Every weak barrel/wave you make needs turns and/or an air after you come out. Maximize your score at any given time instead of giving up on the wave. I once won a competition by 0.1 of a point and that was an eye opening valuable lesson on how close it can be. Never give up and be gracious when you win or lose. That's what the people want!
he is who he is, be himself that is why this channel is fun to watch, though as someone learning surfing through this channel, nathan's and jamie's- to me contests would not be fun. way too much of your score is out of your control and way too much waiting. i raced bikes for a bit and would spend all day for one run and that ruined it, just surf and speak your mind and the followers will come who are really fans! Let's be honest Koa seems to be doing pretty well without your advice @boddysurfer
You must be new here. You're comparing someone who is sponsored and surfs the circuit to what KOA does. It's not the same thing dude. I'm sure your circuit city sponsorship was fun while it lasted.

You made the comment about how do they judge a good day vs a bad day? I'm no professional and I do not know the official answer, but I would think you judge each day on its own merit. A deep barrel on a 12-foot perfect day would get you a 10 but I feel that a scratched, sloppy barrel and forced off-the-lip on a 6-foot sketchy day should grade a 9 plus if a surfer squeezes out the best a wave has to offer compared to all the waves of the session.
Just my opinion, but I would like to know how Pipe judges deal this this situation.

Dude, honestly, I've been subbed for the past 5 years and you absolutely CHARGE, but technically speaking and competition-wise you've been flatlined since day one. Very little to no improvement both from a technical standpoint and apparently mentally too. I'm just a kook on the internet, sure, but to me it's literally infuriating to see how many opportunities get squandered each session just because you can't be bothered to even put in effort. Look at that Rocky session... couple decent turns in a whole session, one's flat, one's late, one's bogged...If there's ALWAYS something wrong, chances are, it's you. To each his own obviously, but to me it's like having a Lamborghini and deliberately choosing to only ever do the speedlimit 🤷♂
