Yeah 100%, if koa took on his advice and applied it I rate that backhand could progress 10 fold as it looks great already! Plus watching these heats is great content 🤙

Yes agree. I know zero about surfing but I feel he could help you get some wins. Sometimes things just happen when you least expect it.

Doug Silva is an incredible surfer and generous dude. Back at Cherry Hill in Solana Beach he ripped. Actually, the spot just north of Cherry was called Silvas. His dad used to body surf there all the time. Doug saw me with a broken leash and gave me a brand new one when I was walking by his place on Sierra. My Nectar boards were the best sticks. Thanks Doug for inspiring a grom.
Being a Aussie I never saw him surf in real life but only on a surf video by Piping Hot. He ripped big time!

I’ll preface this comment admitting I’m a lousy surfer. Very little personal experience and not in any conditions like you have in Hawaii.
That said I want to give you some advice. I watch a lot of surfing vids. I find them peaceful and exciting. It’s like art.
Your coach is spot on. You are too stiff and don’t move your feet on your board. If you would relax your body and just let it flow you’d improve a lot. Again, you are WAAAY better than I am. I’m just basing my comment on how it appears on video, but being as tensed up as you are in all your videos makes your surfing lack style of any kind.
I love your vids and wish you much success. Take the This Is Livin vibe in the water and just let loose.

That high lead arm on a backside turn is pivotal for the whole rotation to work in the shoulders, down through the core and to the hips. Great point Doug!

Back in 86 when I went to the North Shore for the first time, I absolutely loved this beach! The waves were 8 to 12 feet and cranking!
I wish I had a coach like that and could surf a comp. It’s all about perspective and attitude adjustment for a none “suck” day

I injured my neck about a month ago on a backside barrel, sprained it, and kind of fucked up a vertebrae, been watching almost all of your channel in the last couple weeks, safe to say you are right now the most insane goofy footer at pipe, I’ve seen enough and it’s really sick, gets me all hyped up to surf.

Sunrise shack is a Super Cool idea
The Rothmans and the Kahanamoku's should build triangular reefs on the north shore with granite bedrock. coral will then colonize the reefs. the north shore is a huge beach break suck except for sunset and pipe. Lani's only breaks on a hard north early in the season. good PR and tourist draw. Good luck.

Some of the backhand turns were actually really impressive. If you actually wanted to put the work into contests, you could actually get quite far in these I believe. Interesting to see a bit of the coaching as well.
