Thanks bud! Exactly the problem I've been looking to fix!
We just set up a water System with this red cups and we star having problems already the quail just step on top of the cup and the water won’t stop popping out thank you for this video
Great info to take preventive measures.
I am hoping to get quail very soon. I am trying to finish up the cages this week. This look alot better than the older ones. Thanks
Did u ever get your Quail and cages finished.. Thanks
Yup I the red one and one similar to the Wite , the only problem with the automatic it was that they kept turning the cup upside down so the water was running and they were happy playing on the water but it was a problem , so I used glued the cups lol so now is working really good .
Try cleaning them regularly. It's not rocket science. It doesn't need the cage attachment. Just drill a hole and screw it in. NEVER had a single issue with mine and I have 20 of them. Thanks for the vid.
Sounds like good advice. My concern is that I should have to clean them at all. Would using the nipple-type waterer help avoid an extra cleaning chore?
@@maimthestupid no matter what you use. Get in the habit of cleaning it. Takes a few mins. Your animal will thank you and so will your wallet.
I have the opposite problem. Mine won't dispense water unless the yellow part is pressed all the way to the bottom. Even when I have 2 birds drinking at the same time no water refills the cup.
Our cups won’t dispense water either. The yellow lever is set to the bottom even if I rotate clean adjust etc. We have been cleaning and trying to get them to work but they never have worked well enough to be useful.
Thank you so much for this video!!❤️👍
Good heads-up. I bought two of those red cups it will have to wait until I have chickens apparently.
Great video. Thank you
Helps if ya keep them clean. They work fine when maintained.
I am so thankful to see there’s a different one I can order. My reason for buying them in the first place is so they’d have automatic water except the chicks aren’t pecking it therefore the water is always empty and I have to go out there and fill the cups which defeats the purpose. Lol thanks for sharing
Chicks are too young/small to move the valve. Adult chickens do not have that problem.
put a little bit of feed in it, get em used to pecking it, once one learns the others will copy.
It never gets full.
They just get a drop of water each time they hit the "lever".
They learn to drink. I stressed about it too. They figure it out
I have 14 birds on one drinker.
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks my friend nice video ✌️
Thank you!!
Nice tips.
bought some of the cups for my Quail the nipple keep stopping so hope these work better
I have a 275 gallon IBC tote set up with a PVC line running off of it into the chicken yard, and there are 8 trigger cups on the line in the coop. Been there for 5 years, never had a problem with it, BUT, it's out in their yard and nowhere near their feed, so the cups stay clean. But if you put them inside a cage where the birds can get feed and crap in them, yeah they'll be jammed up and constantly running in no time.
i tried the red ones in the side of a bucket, let the water in and it goes dry and don`t fill up,don`t think the chickens are pushing little yellow down at all
i get a Health Ledger Joker vibe from you.... i like you so far.
I using the one you just recommended
And you have to clean them like everyday or just will get heavy until leaking and dirty very fast
Do you have a video in which installation of your preferred cup is demonstrated? Thanks.
I don't recommend the white one
I used those cups for long period of time. But it gives me more headache and it's hard to manage and maintain.
I will surely recommend the red one although they both same automatic drinker but it will give you less headache and easy to maintain.
I used red one for couples of years and I will stick to it😊
I used to have some red ones that had a "float" valve that was adjustable and no yellow thingie, but haven't found them again, anywhere. kinda like the white one .
I need to know if there is an adjustment on filling the clear cups. I have similar but are red but they will fill full and then run all over. Suggestions please.
I am so glad to see I’m not alone in my dissatisfaction with those cups. I will also tell everyone that the yellow thing that the chickens beaks are supposed to fill the cup with didn’t work well when I tried to get them to fill. It sits to low in the cup and hampers the movement thus not allowing much water to run into the cup. I need the kind that will screw directly into a bucket even if they aren’t cups. I just want good quality watering attachments that won’t rust, break or clog up. I have even purchased a pre made bucket watering system that is leaking. I originally purchased the simple style waterer with the metal insert from China when I first started out (they were crap and are still sitting in my barn) I have since purchased American made but still have had issues with both kinds. Help! Do you know a good company that sells well made for DIY systems that run off of PVC.
Thanks for your video
Appreciate it

I have the white cup mechanical type but red colored plastic they screw into the the bucket with a nut they are great . The red one with the yellow tongue don't work at all
haven't had that problem. but I have chickens not quail. the problem I had is my original ones worked great, until they froze. Bought new ones and these seem to need a bit more water pressure. (head pressure) . I feed from a 55 gallon plastic drum. For 13-15 hens I get about 3 months of water before refilling. (it's in the shade, no algae, couple drops of chlorine or vinegar to keep it clean. The red ones screw into a pvc T in a pipe. but the white cups look pretty good to.
Chlorine? No harm to chicken? I have an algae problem with mine 😫
Been using the red / orange water cups for several hundred hens for a year. never had a problem with them. Wamego Valley Farm
That's because chickens are smart : ) Quails, not so much. Lol.
My quail seem to be more macho the only problem I have is they keep throwing their empty beer cans at the cat 🤔
😂
Your alternative cup also has it's faults. I've had many of them break the posts off the sides of the cups. They either fall off or they tilt and water runs all over. I've had both cups and right now, the problems I have are with your alternative cup.
What do you use now? I'm also curious about freezing weather.
Hi Anita
Please tell us what you use instead?
Hi bro nice idea wonderful how to get please share on which shop
Install the cups on your PVC line. Make sure you use Teflon tape. At the end of the PVC line make sure you have a clean out. The biggest mistake I see that people do when installing these is you must have a 5 psi regulator. This is a low pressure system. I hear so many people hooking up the water hose to the end of the PVC line turning on the hose and that is when you will have problems.
My system was always gravity fed, no pressure at all. And the leaks always came from the valve sticking open. It was never the connection points that had a problem.
This is the project that never ends for me. I've slowly been putting it together for a couple months now, always missing something. Thanks to you I now know to add a 5 psi regulator. I was thinking it was just a stupid design 😅.
I've been using the red cups for about 3 yrs now, I periodically ( maybe once a month} flush them out for just a second. I will get the occaional bird that will hop up & sit on one, causing it to run a little extra, but they don't stay up there long. In hard freezes, I drain & water by hand or the free standing water tubs, that is use for new chicks.
I have the red ones . They work great . Like he said don’t use the ones with the yellow peice in it
How to fixing the process ant how to get that product
I have the red ones hooked to a 55 gallon plastic drum and they keep my chickens keep tearing it off so I have to put something up on there
I wish I knew how much those red cups sucked before I bought a whole bag of them! Mine only work when pushed from the left side and held open, it's too hot here for my quails to not have easy access to water :(
Automatic Chicken Cage Water Bowl Drinker Cups Bird Quail Piegon Waterers and Feeders Livestocktool (5, White)
could you please provide the link to buy the white cup
Looking for the cups and can't find them. Can you help me out?
Amazon does not have these where else can I find them?
the red ones don't work at all for me, every time i look the cup is empty the chickens just don't hit the little yellow thing
Or. Buy the red cups and drill in an over flow hole so no material gets intio the valve
We only have the problem that the water comes out so slow and the chickens aren't really wanting to use it.
besitosxo I have quail, I see how chickens can need more. I have my water stored high. Shoots out pretty quick you can hear it, enough for a quail. If you have small water storage and it’s low, it can explain low pressure. I’m guessing you may be using a bucket.
Smart but will wet the chicken house
Can an egg prop up that white cup and make it leak?
I'm using the cups you used to replace the first ones but mine leak like crazy. I've tried to stop it but I guess I don't know how
I have 2 of those red ones, ones perfect. The other constantly leaks. Not from where it attaches to the bucket but from the yellow lever. I even took it apart and cleaned it. Still leaks like a faucet and leaves my chickens without water! I might try these!!! Is there no way to attach it to a bucket?
I’m pretty sure they attach the same way or you can get some that attach the same on Amazon
You mentioned that the flaw happens when you use it with quail, but what about with chickens?
Perhaps it's intended audience is chickens for a reason.
Now I know maybe other things can still get stuck up there, but maybe less frequently, due to the how different chickens and quail are.
Works fine for my chickens. Maybe a quail thing?
The site only sells them as a pack of 6? Is there any other option? I only need 2-3.
That's the minimum order number
I think the white ones have the same problem, once the bowl getts feed on it it will pull down, once the feed gets wet it gets really heavy, and there will be no water once they finish the little bowl.
this is the first thing inmy mind too.
The only time it leaked so bad is when I had a quail lay an egg in it. Lol. I have them
I had the same problem with the white ones. My fix was just to put the waterers on the outside of my cage so they can’t walk over it.
I didn't try both, but I imagine that you still have a problem with the 2nd one you recommended, if the chicken fills it with enough food it will go down and it will not flush water again until you clean it.
I think the drippers are the best solution.
let me know if you think otherwise, thanks for the video.
Each one of them has problems. He's right about the first cup. The problem with his style of cup, which I've used, is that quail have the uncanny ability to knock those cups sideways by climbing all over them or running in to them. This will cause the cup hinge to come loose from the center, and all the water pours out. Nipples have different issues based on their orientation. I've never tried them with quail, but ducks are pretty good at jamming the nipples open.
We bought the red ones and touching the yellow button does not do anything! You have to push it directly up and in for anything to come out. We have tried different water pressures and everything. So frustrating. Thanks for the tip.
My problem also.
Weird. Ours works.
Damn it! I just ordered those.
same. it says the one he recommends are out of stock anyway
@@besitosxo I found some similar like the ones he has.
@@besitosxo Pack of 2 - RentACoop Automatic Chicken Water Nipple Cup Waterer Kit for Poultry
how do you attach these to a bucket? what’s the size of the attachment thing?
I don't have a way to connect you to a bucket. That product is under development right now. It's a metric size nipple but I use 3/8 hose on it.
Can we see it in use
Never had a problem with are red ones but ok
Are you opposed to the red nipples that I use on my chickens? If so, why?
Can it be attached to a bucket?
It sure can, but you'll have to have a nipple and some hose
Can you attach these to 5gal bucket?
With some extra parts you could, but it's designed for cage systems.
What happens when a quail pushes the cup up will it keep adding water and over flow?
Pushing it up will cause it to overflow, so it should be mounted low
@@UrbanAviary it's only because I have some little quail that are around 2 weeks now but they would probably find a way to get under it they love to squeeze in tight spots haha but I'll probably try it on the chickens until the quail are a little older
Looks like your quail feeding method not pretty good thats why you have problems with red drinking cups.
How do you clean these cups and how often?
I just clean them out with hot water every few weeks
@@UrbanAviary do you have to turn it upside down to get the dirt out?
have to take them apart and clean them every once in awhile
Do u think the white one would work for rabbits
I've actually thought of that, I think it would for average size rabbits. Not sure how it would work for a New Zealand or other large breeds though.
They sure will for about 2 days. Rabbits will Cheatham off. There are French one made or aluminum which are $6 each if you can find them. Just get the stainless nibbling type.
white cups unavailable on Amazon link. Can they be obtained any place else?
Working on getting them back in stock. I don't know if anyone else sells them.
@@UrbanAviary Thank you! Would you please post a reply when available so I can buy them right away!
Sure thing!
The problem I see with both of these here is stagnation of water. Have you just tried the poultry nipples that have no cups? what do you think of them? Do they clog open too?
The problem with nipples is water waste. It spills out and makes a mess in the poop trays/litter.
No
@@UrbanAviary But do they leak when not being used?
Everyone is out of these type. Any idea when you might get some in?
I have more arriving at Amazon by the end of this week, I suspect they will be available by next week sometime.
@@UrbanAviary Hopefully perfect timing as my eggs should be here this week. Nothing like just in time manufacturing, lol.
Anyway to pre-order? I'd like to make sure I get some.
Lol, right? This stupid covid crap is causing me all kinds of headaches.
I’m not sure about quail but I just got these for my chickens. www.amazon.com/dp/B07D6W2JK8/ref=twister_B07D6VFMBD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Didn’t see a link
It's in the pop up card, I'll add it to the video description as well
When I clicked on the link to get the cups I got a message from Amazon that they were no longer available--and they didn't know when they would become available again.
I'm working on getting them back in stock, this stupid virus is hell on getting product in.
Urban Aviary I’m standing by to buy a bunch when they’re back in stock!
You must be the only one to have that problem. Mine never gave me any problems. They never had feed in them.
How many quail will one cup adequately provide water for
I've done up to 20 with no issue
Wow! I have ALSO USED the clear one you just illustrated. Unfortunately the same happens after about a month. In this case the valve is made of silicon which invariably gets clogged with feed mixed with water leading to algae formation. I would say that whichever drinkers are used require regular servicing and disinfection. Very important to also ensure good hygiene for the quails.
How do you stop them from freezing?
I'm working on a system for that right now actually, watch for that video in the coming weeks.
@@UrbanAviary I only have 3 hens so far. I'm using a litter pail as the water basin. It has one of those Puck heaters in it but the cups keep freezing over.
I was thinking about wrapping some copper wire around the puck and trying to run it to the bowls to see if it would transfer enough heat, but I don't think it will.
If the wire was inside the hose then it might do the trick. The problem is keeping the water that's sitting in the cup from freezing. I'm doing a lot of r&d right now to figure out a solution.
@@UrbanAviary My setup just has the cups directly attached to the bucket. At this point I'll probably just make two buckets and swap them out daily. One can thaw out inside while the other's out in the coop. I mean I have to check for eggs everyday anyway.
I will sub and look forward to your upcoming video.
Thanks!! And yeah for the bucket style that is exactly the solution I would go with.
These cups suck. I watched the video. Bought two packs set them in my quail breeding cages. Everyday I come into water all over the floor. They jump on them it spills. They root there heads under the cup lifting it up enough to make it pour out. They are spilling on average 3 gallons a day. Everyday. I have moved them around the cage. Done everything I can. These just suck
you can make little enclosures from a soda bottle that will prevent them from getting under them
Meh, unavailable on Amazon now, think I'll go with something else.
You could have waited for them to be available
Amazon's got some other ones like it, different colors and all, not bad price either.
water cups not available any more, what happend
Waiting on stock to come in, this pandemic is making it hard for me to get them.
@@UrbanAviary just wondering , ill keep checking back
just looked on Amazon...
"currently unavailable "
White is ok.
I tried this solution (white one) and I do not recommend it. The hens and ducks lifted the cups so often that the water was constantly flowing and spilling into the coop. Horrible mess.
You didn’t show the setup
What if so much feed gets in the cup that it shuts the valve off and you don’t have any water?
You have to keep watering cups clean and maintained no matter what. These are no different.
@@UrbanAviary If you keep the red ones clean as well, they won't hv any problem
Turning out to be junk
it really takes seconds per cup. Hose it down to remove all the dirt and crap. There’s also chemical buildup from your water also. I use similar one like in the video and the red fillip cup from RentACoop and never had any problem. People are lazy and don’t clean them at all. You supposed to drill a hole on a 5 gallon bucket or pvc pipe and attached to it. Don’t be lazy and clean them.
I would say that if you claim that food accumulates and jams the fort water cup, then wouldn’t food accumulate in the second water cup and keep the cup in a down shutting position leaving the cups not to replenish with water? 🧐
If you raising quail this is not the solution for them. The problem with these is the quail will rest or push the cup up consistently and water will overflow to the poop tray and you have a mess. The best solution is the button water feeder. Commerical quail farm use them so they know all the isue.
So you don’t do the correct maintenance to the birds cages and instead you blame a product that you are supposed to keep clean? 👍
The Swamp I have these as well and they are cheap and don’t work. I have 12 of them and 9 are leaking.
They're a waste of money. They drain a bucket in minutes....
Not even gonna watch the video. NEITHER! Any sort of CUP is a bad idea. NO matter what brand or concept, they all have the same problem, they get nasty dirty and you have to keep cleaning them. not to mention that in winter time the freeze. Forget all that and just use horizontal nipples.
