Really hope the first two artists can get a Billboard hit one day soon. They both deserve it!
I’m so with you on tropic morning news. I remember this spring riding my bike in the rain at 7:30 am to a bullshit English class that I hadn’t attended in months and was only attending on the day to take a final over subject matter I hadn’t read and didn’t care about. I listened to that song the whole ride. Took my test, apologized to the professor, and rode my bike home. Listening to the song over and over again the whole ride home. I can’t explain the effect it had on me. The National are masters of romanticizing the mundane, and that song in that moment was just right.
Sweet list. I'm not really a country fan and I passed over the songs listed here earlier in the year because of that genre tag but a lot of the samples, especially the Jason Isbell and Rustin Kelly ones, sounded great. - Walking Each Other Home is one of my favorite songs of the year, and I discovered it thanks to Mark,
- Float is a banger, I'm not usually a fan of this kind of music but this song did something to me this year,
- Who We Love is an excellent ballad! It's not one of my favorite songs but I like the way Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran sound on this song,
- Life Goes On is my second favorite song from Ed Sheeran's album released at the beginning of the year, just after End Of Youth! It's a banger, it's emotional and beautiful! I like the version with Luke Combs less but he brings something different which is very good! And I advise you to listen to Ed Sheeran's album. Too bad Eyes Closed is the first and only single when it's the worst song on the album,
- Jersey Giant is in the top 10 of my favorite songs of the year, discovered thanks to Mark as well. I didn't know that it was Tyler Childers who wrote the song, especially since In Your Love is also in the top 10 of my favorite songs of 2023. But, I don't see him singing it on this type of song. Good thing he gave it to Elle King.
- White Horse is also one of my favorite songs! I love this type of Country-rock music and Chris Stapleton is excellent on the song. The instrumental hits so hard!
- I was surprised that Dial Drunk was your best hit song of the year! I would have preferred to see White Horse, Cruel Summer or I Remember Everything. But, the song is very good so I'm not complaining.
- Save The World is a banger too
- Welcome To My Island is the third song I listened to the most on Spotify in 2023, I was very surprised. But it's an excellent song so it's very good, and i also discovered it thanks to Mark
- Only Love Can Save Us Now is also a good song. Kesha has this power that few mainstream artists have. I hope she will be successful again!
- Michael Keaton at number 2? Wow, I'm so happy! This song is excellent, emotional and melodious, and his voice is huge and powerful.
- There are also a lot of songs on this list that I don't know. I made a Spotify playlist and added all the songs on that list that i need to check out and that sound good. There are so many!

The song that was #2 I wholeheartedly agree is an excellent song (not my favorite on the album, one you included in your extended list on Twitter actually is haha), I was excited to see it here this high. Yeah Chappell Roan doesn't get talked about nearly as much much in retrospect for 2023 compared to Scaring the Hoes Sufjan etc. As a queer woman it's great to not only see artists which represent me do well, but one who's artistically great too

It’s funny because I usually get my most diverse taste of a year in music AFTER that year is over. And the reason why is I usually take the best album & song lists of the critics who I respect and enjoy (obviously your channel, ARTV, Crash, Rocked, Bradtaste) and create a GIANT playlist to hear basically everything of note I may have missed in that year. So thanks for sharing these lists, they really are fun to have to find some new things to listen to and some new artists to follow.

Top track for me is Lana Del Rey’s ‘A&W’… it’s just such a masterpiece in songwriting! In my opinion of course!
Commenting before I watch: if Decoy by Dessa isn't on the list, I'm gonna fuckin' riot. (All in good spirit of course, Mark can like whatever he wants, I'm just sad by how poorly the album was received and how ignored it was, and I think Mark is by far the biggest critic who's likely to recognize the song in a list).
