'Dial Drunk' at #1 in this list definitely a big surprise but a very welcome one. Noah and Post have so much chemistry in it! 😊
Also really happy that 'White Horse', 'I Remember Everything', 'Anti-Hero' and 'Escapism' did as well as they did, along with 'Ceilings' making it into the list but shocked that 'What Was I Made For?' only made it into the Honourable Mentions. Amazing video, Mark!

So ‘Anti-Hero’, ‘I Remember Everything’, ‘Fast Car’ and either ‘Mourning’ or 'Chemical' all thankfully look like they have a strong chance to make the list based on the thumbnail and Mark's reviews of them of Billboard BREAKDOWN. After seeing how much the worst list affected him, I’m looking forward to see his happier side in this video. I hope it gets a good response! 😊

@@jchmusic7587 I haven't see the TOTC 200 chart, but if 'Mourning' is there then it definitely seems probable than 'Chemical'. Both awesome songs nonetheless.
"Going Going Gone" and "Love You Anyway" might also make the list for Luke. I can see "Fast Car" only being an HM

On a more related note, I have to wonder if taking into Mark's consideration of the new updates, would Son of A Sinner have made it on his Best Songs list for 2022 last year properly instead? It's only fair to ask since he did mention what would have qualified for his worst songs list in 2022 properly with those new rules instead.
This is THE most unique Best Hit Songs list I've seen for this year and I couldn't be happier about that. We're guaranteed never gonna see another 2023 year end best hit list like it.

When you get to the decade end list, you could probably use the yearly predictions from Pulse for the first three years of the decade. They follow the official chart window, but at least before this year that was still a 52 week period. And they go 200+ songs deep.

I’ve seen the ones for this decade, but by chance has anyone posted something similar for the 2010s? Only like 150 songs is good enough for me and I don’t really care whether it’s Billboard’s original year end chart window or Jan-Dec.
@@oscarescq2112 the predictions for 2014-2017 went 200 songs deep. 2013 was the first year predictions happened, so anything before then would have to be retroactively calculated. As for 2018/2019, there were some people making 200 songs predictions (including me in 2018), but they weren’t the most accurate of the bunch. Still, better than nothing

Another fantastic video full of insightful commentary as always! Surprised but pleased to see dial drunk all the way at the top, I expected it to be more of an honorable mention, but it was very cool to see that song grow on you during the course of the year! Also totally agree with your take on 10:35, that song deserved more love for sure.
Yeah obviously the negativity of this year's hits is very overwhelming, but hey, we gotta create something positive!
Top 10 Best Hits of the Billboard 2023 Year: (Going based off of Mark's old rules, I'd have to spend WAY more time thinking about a new list if I used TOTC's 200, and I don't have that luxury... but I will say it's almost certainly better)
1. Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez + Em Beihold (Don't care what Billboard says, this was the only version that existed)
2. What Was I Made For - Billie Eilish (The context of this song in the movie really increases my love of it)
3. Golden Hour - JVKE (Yeah I acknowledge that the story behind this song isn't pretty at all, but I still can't help but find myself to love it, sorry yall 🤷)
4. Cruel Summer - Taylor Swift (Don't really enjoy how it was promoted, but hey, the song is excellent)
5. Fast Car - Luke Combs (Obv not as good as Tracy's, but still captured a good chunk of greatness)
6. Nobody Gets Me - SZA (One of the best on the album for me)

Man, this might be Mark's wildest and controversial best list yet! Seriously, if you had told me a few months back that a 2020s Drake song would make the Honorable Mentions, POST MALONE would be in the top 5 (INCLUDING #1), and a Jonas Brothers song would be in the Canadian Contenders, I would've laughed in your face and said you were crazy! Honestly, though, that's what made this list so entertaining for me, and after how angry Mark got in the last video, I feel like this was definitely a palate cleanser for both him and all of us watching, and I couldn't be happier! Damn great list!

In a year where hip-hop really struggled, Johnny Dang is probably the most underrated song in the genre - and I know for sure Mark would have included it, but I guess not even the extended list helped it be eligible. such a shame, banger of the year.

I know that he might not gonna talk about it but K-Pop (the genre not the song) had a great year in 2023 largely in part due Gen 4 doing more Dance and EDM throwback

You know what's funny? Before I watched this, I predicted that either I Remember Everything or Anti-Hero would be #1.
Then I Remember Everything was revealed at #4. Then I said "oh, then it's Anti-Hero".
