    Hey this was a very awesome breakdown of your cost for a mile excellent

  • @robclark7380
    @robclark7380 Před rokem +7

    These numbers are very light, nobody gonna dispatch for 3%, and everybody gonna factor lawsuit headache not worth it, if you aren’t running $3 a mile you’re gonna be broke period. In the next two years, the truck you are in gonna need way more maintenance.

      @@giorga2004 I’m not hating or saying his rates are bad comparatively, I’m saying in general for trucking to be getting ahead in life $3 is needed a new truck is $250k they don’t run forever

    • @giorga2004
      @giorga2004 Před rokem

      @@hungrytrucking3074 yeah but how much weight for $3. He also doesn’t say how much weight he Carrie’s for 2.3 or whatever. Carrying 1200 lbs for $2.3 is a good price. But 20,000 lbs for 2.3 is bad price.

    Great analysis. The only thing is you might need to change your annual mileage to something less than 120k if doing short haul. Very good clearly explaining fixed and variable and a spreadsheet makes it easy to run different scenarios. Take care.

    Don’t you have to adjust your CPM for your fixed costs for short haul (in the comparison of Long vs. Short haul) because you now have fewer miles but the same fixed costs? It still makes sense (or should it be cents) to go short haul!
    Great analysis that facilitates great decisions.

    • @mattjv2142
      @mattjv2142 Před rokem +1

      You are absolutely right. The net would be less then he is showing on the short haul as that is not 120k a year. 2200x52 is 114400 assuming you ran every week which is not realistic. So assume you are able to run 50 weeks which is 110000 his proration would be off by 20000 bucks or so or around 400 a week so 1600 vs the 2000. Still more profitable but not quite as good.

    • @mattjv2142
      @mattjv2142 Před rokem +1

      In fact neither one is completely accurate.
      On the long haul let’s use 3200 miles a week not the 3500 a week he used. Also use 50 weeks that allows for a bit of extra downtime as well. So 160000 miles a year. His cost with salary is $2.21 using the 120000 formula his fuel cost is 0.91 so 1.31 by the 40000 miles is 52400 so approximately 1000 a week. Profit not calculated in the spreadsheet on the long haul. The short is still better but only by 100 bucks or so. Now one thing is for sure it creates more wear on the truck but may improve the mpg so maybe lower that.

    I know my numbers very well with my Freightliner and 53’ Reefer . I am independent as well . For me it doesn’t make since to run local because I live in California where fuel is $1.20 more per gallon than say Texas . My sweet spot is 800 - 1500 miles from California. But no more than that because your right …. It doesn’t pay !! So yousiff , how far do you go from your home ??

    I made some comments under Rauols comments. Would love to get your feedback. If you like I can build you a sheet where you put in your miles for the fixed costs so you can get a better one and email you it. I appreciate the info you put out so would be returning the favor.

    Yousiff, I hope this isn't too rude, and I apologize if it is, but did or do you make 6 figures in a year? That would be a huge motivation for me, especially as I have no wife or kids who depend on me, so I could work as long as necessary. It just doesn't seem like the load Net take home pay is that great, according to what I saw here. Did I miss something?

      Without him putting the salary in the expense side, short haul net was over 2k/week. This would be over 100k annual, but what is take home vs stays in the company is dependent on your situation.

    You drive a flatbed for $2.17 rate per mile long haul? Or 2.75 short haul? That’s terrible. Do you think that is a good rate? Do you not have a broker, is that your load board pay?

    • @burt714
      @burt714 Před rokem +1

      Unfortunately the spot market supports the rates he used. You can certainly find some loads for more but it depends on the lane. I’ve heard of people getting 4 a mile but I’m not seeing it using a load board
