- I needed to drop my plane off at Kenosha, Wisconsin for some software/autopilot upgrades and my buddy John offered to fly me back home. Ride with me on the way from Chicago Aurora Airport in my Cessna 310 as I fly formation with John's Cessna 340. Sorry, on the way back home I had a camera/audio failure.
*Our version of formation is very different than the Blue Angels. :)

@21:11: That's me being all fancy! Thank you! xx
Nice vox
It's always fun to ride along with you guys. I definitely agree that 340 is one beautiful and capable aircraft. I bet that A/C felt great on the return flight. As always thanks for bringing us along and taking the time to put the videos together. I know editing is a lot of work.
An awesome flight as always... I always so look forward to your flights.... Be safe..
Man your vids are making me miss summer time flying sooo much. Especially since I got my multi in the 310 this past summer!!
What's up Kevin & Mr. Berst ...nice to fly with you finely John - Zoom Zoom!
Thanks Shawn. I’ll be at KARR today if u want to visit the 340
Hi Kevin and John. A great up and back trip! The tail cam showed the 340 nicely in the cruise. Delightful to hear the big Continentals play their music during run-up and takeoff. The TSIOs sent a shiver down my spine as they spun up to full-noise! I had a silly smile on my face the whole video. Lovely to be flying with you both.
Say hi to our favourite silky smooth ATC voiced Jaime, I think of you two quite often, and hope you are well. Cheers from NZL, David :)
Another great video! Enjoyed watching the two planes in formation flight.
Kevin and John Thank's for taking us along. It make's me relax and feel free of the Daily Problem's. Wish I would have had the chance to do what you guy's do in my younger day's. Be Safe!
So good to see the planes in the air
Thanks for the ride along !! Learned a couple of things
They say short flights are some of the most challenging (and potentially dangerous). Nice job on all the workload, including managing formation flying and monitoring many frequencies, Kevin! Nice flight. Thanks for taking us along!
Running checklists aloud and flying from the right seat, its almost like being an ATP!
Keep up the great videos and above all STAY SAFE! 🛩️❤️😷
Great to see Johns plane in the air. I worked with Jeff and Devon at Lumanair on his autopilot and pito leak.
Looks good and glade to see you up and flying.
Thanks for the ride, Kevin.
This plane ✈️ has a center post in the windshield, nice John is a guidance builder, camera time 100 % better , vary precise, thanks buddy thanks BigAl California.
Great video Kevin, John is a great guy
Nice flying, you two! I enjoyed that. :)
long time, seems a lifetime since a formation fly-along, brought back some pleasant memories of some really good times, thanks...
Nice Ride Kevin and John... Both ways! Love that 340 albeit grew up in a 310i Model, N8006M
Sweet landing Kevin!
Kevin,
That was so cool!
Cheers,
Rik
Always good to see 2 friends fly together in formation, so awesome :)
Nice to see you still in the air.Can enjoy for a little longer .👍👍👍🇬🇧
He’s not still in the air, aircraft and hanger sold some time ago.
@@ljavtech1479 As of right now running the tail number through Flight Aware it's still registered to him.
Thanks for the ride, gets my brain working early in the morning.
youre the one who got me back into aviation 2 years ago, and now i got 6 hours of flight tine and have taken off by myself!
Watched video on 11 march. Great video of take off with the tail camera. Super landing into kenosha.
Your vid’s are making my life a bit easier here in Europe…. Thanks.
Dig the shirt! Lifetime member. As always love the videos. As a student pilot I benefit greatly from the radio content. As always thanks and I look forward to see what going to happen after 1BC gets sold
Nice job Kevin & John - nice rep of the Avidyne IFDs. By the way, I'll tell my sister you liked her voice. She did the IFD voiceovers - featured on AOPA Live a few years back.
Thank you, that was fun to watch. every time i see someone fly form, i can't help but think about all the crews in the bombers during WW2. 8 hrs or more in tight form, while people were shooting at you. Much Respect.
Thanks for the upload
I just had to comment on the footage with John's 340 in there. First of all both planes are already cool enough just sitting on the ground let alone watching video of both in the air.... Definitely two of my favorite aircraft. While I was watching the 340 in front of you I couldn't help thinking how cool it would be to have a camera filming out the side window as you fly a safe distance next to him or slightly above him while he has a cam in the 340 filming you in the 310....? Now that video would get some major views, I guarantee it....😲 That's my way of asking, "Kevin, please talk to John about taking another formation flight with a 2nd camera on the 340"....? We all can't wait for that video. 🤓 Thanks guys.
When are you getting your next machine??
Yea the shots where amazing 👏
I'm upset ut waited 5 days to show me your video.
Be Blessed and Be Safe 😇
As always Kevin love your videos
We have our C177 based at KENW, and Sunshine works on it when needed. Great place, known the owner of Sunshine for about 40yrs.
Thanks for the ride
Enjoyed the 2fer. Thanks from Dawsonville, GA
Hahaa!, "The all important checklist", seems I've heard that meme before....lol. Nice flight, both ways gentlemen.
Thanks, Kevin!
Thanks for the ride. 👍
Hello from Minnesota!! Flying with friends!!
Fantastic video. Stay safe :)
Awesome Video!!
Information Whiskey = "Booze News" - never heard that one before. Love it, have a good chuckle :)
Kevin, the last I heard, and obviously not from you directly, was that you and Jaime are working 6 day work weeks, and don't have the time to fly, which is why 1BC was on the market. I would assume it's sold, and that you didn't pull it back off. I do hope that when life gets a little normal again and you can pick up a new airplane that you'll return to your Cessna roots and maybe pick up a 340A. A G500TXi or 600TXi would do very nicely in that airplane, along with an EDM-960.
In the meantime, thanks for posting some older videos we didn't see before, and I wish both of you a great life.
Subtle shout out to Jerry Wagner, lol. Nice flying!
Nice catch.
Very cool! The only thing better than ONE Twin Cessna is TWO twin Cessnas!
Great video as usual. But seriously, it’s time for an update. You dropped the bomb back in December. Update please. Best to you and your family, from Canada.
I agree..I watched the last 2 videos and was saddened by the feeling that I was looking at a dying channel. Your personal Business should be kept private but you owe it to your subs to update if the channel has plans to continue or if it will die a slow death.
I agree 100%, we the subscribers keep you going and should be told some sort of an update.
Definitely after that announcement it was as if that was it but it’s still going on, very strange
I don't see how they would owe anyone an update, any more than we would need to divulge our personal business, dreams, ambitions to them. They've made a great contribution to aviation and shared their lives with us, leave it alone.
Brian Baskerville..no one has asked them to divulge anything other than what the future of the channel might be. What gives you the need to tell anyone to "leave it alone". I enjoyed their videos and would like to see more..especially those that aren't months old.
Its awesome to see green grass in your video!! I cant wait for one more month when everything starts growing!!!
Very nIce looks like fun !
I always enjoy watching 1BC fly, she's a real beauty!! Thanks Kev!! 8) --gary (Looking forward to the updates too!!) 8)
Very cool guys....
Nice video
Thanks - For riding along! ........... just sayin'
Hi Kev I don’t know if you have those cameras that follow or rotate where you want them to go. Fricken awesome shots man 🤙👌👍
Very nice Kevin, maybe you can turn on that airliner sound next time you fly1BC. Thanks mate
Taking off in the fast lane!
Noticed the same, why do you think he didn't center the plane in the runway?
Wow, is it just me or not having a right seater working the radios and things makes for a very busy flight when in formation??
Enjoyed the video again and it is nice to see John too. I have been thinking about getting my card updated but at this time it looks pretty expensive. You had mentioned about selling everything, how is that going?
Alright ..Kevin. I like the way you easily transition from your 310 to the 340. Wow. Now you need to connect with premier1 pilot . What do you think?
Nice
that was great
I think it's So Rad that you're a pilot/ATC Kevin!
Also I was saying out loud "How rad it was to fly as a Flight of two and your (Coworker) Ryan picked up John as a potential bogee!
Keep up the good work, and keep the rubba a side down!
Mike
RMEF hat, nice!
Howdy 310 pilot! Jimmy's World could use any C310 spare parts for his save the C310 rebuild if you have any, have you watched his videos?' the guy is great entertainment!
Anudder great vid. More more more! You still have your baby or did someone purchase it?
Hi Kevin, good video, how’s jaime and the kids doing? What’s new with everything? Did you sell 1BC yet?
Who is John ??!! I only have been hearing you talk about him, lol how is Jamie, ?!!! Thanks BigAl California.
John you looking stylish
does the center post in the 340 windshield bother you after the 310?
hi, I guess you have sold your 310 ..I couldn't find it in the listings, good luck with your future endeavors .
Congrats to your dogs btw. Go Gamecocks!
I'm not sure but I believe I have seen this video. Anyway, it says it was uploaded 2 days ago and unless global warming has taken a major turn for the worse it looks like summer time in upper Illinois and lower Wisconsin so If that was a recent flight I'm jealous because it is mid March 2022 in the Florida pan handle and the low last night was 27F and the high today was 54F!
Are you guys planning on SNF/Osh this year?
I've heard you say that you've sold 1BC. I haven't heard about the hanger or, more importantly, what you'll be doing next. Will you still be producing your flying videos?
Ok let us hear the big news 📰, thanks BigAl California
So in this scenario are you the only pilot communicating with ATC and John is only listening to you? Or does John have to communicate with ATC throughout the flight of two as well?
As a Flight, only the Flight leader communicates, that way there is no confusion. But, notice that Kevin, in all his communications, said 'Flight' or 'Flight of two' to make sure the ground controllers were aware. His friend Ryan didn't hear the initial call of "Flight', although Kevin used it, and commented on the Primary target close in.
Great video - btw I thought you were sellin' - glad you are not ?
No new videos for some time now. Must be that the silver and black paint scheme on the 340 is taking longer than expected.
Hi Kevin....GO DAWGS! Thought y'all were going to sell 1BC...??
Come up to Purdue and we can do formation in my arrow!
I have flown from the right seat once (320hrs left seat) that first time isnt easy
You didn’t sell it?
When you are a flight of two, what code does the other plane squawk when you are assigned a code for flight following?
I'm not a pilot, but I think in this case, the other aircraft squawks 'standby', which as I understand is 'passive', or squawking 'nothing'.
This is why ATC mentioned "I have a 'primary' on your tail". I think this means ATC could see the second aircraft that's not squawking a code, as a primary radar return only, no ads-b or other identifier. The only reason ATC could see this second aircraft was 'old school' radar returns (hence "primary" terminology). This is expected in a multi ship flight as you commonly don't have multiple codes when you're planning on maintaining vfr 'formation'. Kevin then mentioned that he checked on as "N771BC flight", but that it might have been blocked. The "flight" suffix lets ATC know that the aircraft with that code and that callsign is expected to have multiple other 'contacts' that won't be squawking discreet codes, but might show up on primary radar anyway.
Again, not a pilot, but that's how I understand that it works.
Jamie didn’t come along for the run?
Kevin, thanks for sharing. Hope we'll meet in TX next month??? Or John if he attends the TTCF convention?? But assuming you're out of the market, or too far away. A lot goes into contracts between #1 and #2, which was reinforced watching your video. Hope to see more of your vids.
Is the 340 pressurized? Hint for which plane you want to move up to?
The 340 is pressurized. It wasn't the smallest of the Cessna twins to be pressurized, that honor goes the P337, the 'push-pull' thing with an engine out front and one in the back. However, the 340 and 340A were the smallest of the 'standard design' twins that Cessna made. Six seats, airstair door and TSIO-520 engines. The earlier 340s had a pressurization differential of 3.8, which the 340As had a differential of 4.2. That allowed for a cabin pressure of 8,000' at 18,000 or 20,000' dependng on the model. As you climbed higher after that, the cabin altitude would also climb.
When flying formation what frequency do you chat on with the other plane?
123.45 is very popular
As popular as it is, 123.45 is actually a frequency assigned to Boeing test flights by the fcc. If you use that frequency, expect a call from the feds
@@robertmcmurry3509 feds must be pretty busy enforcing that one, always hear a lot of chatter.
@@robertmcmurry3509 Never heard that one before. We use it all over the PNW and to my knowledge, nobody has been called by the Feds.
That is an air to air freq when on the HF.
Hello Kevin give us an update on You, Jamie, 771BC, and the channel. Hope you all are safe and sound.
Word is, the plane sold in late December. I don't think anybody knows anything else beyond that.
Great videos, but wondering what's going on with you and Jamie and your life. Post an update please!
He posted on a pilot forum that they are just slammed at work due to personnel shortages and they don’t have time for flying regularly anymore. He didn’t want the plane to just sit so they decided to sell. He may make some vids with his friends 340 occasionally but didn’t seem to have any plans beyond that
As a 310 pilot, do you need to be certified to fly the 340?
Man thats a long taxi
Is johns plane ✈️ turbo?!! Thanks BigAl California
Yes, the 340As had the Continental TSIO-520s. They were turbocharged. RAM Aircraft in Texas has upgrade mods for them, including bigger turbos and bigger intercoolers.
It's the Thunderbirds..
771BC still on the market?
He sold it in late December.
Does it have any ice protection ? If not not too good a backup
Only a few weeks until Sun'n'Fun. Who all will be there?
Not when avgas is quickly approaching 10$ gallon, what’s the point. Then the Gami 100UL is even more. Ugh no thanks.
@@tropicthndr completely agree the price of fuel is outrageous. However, after missing the last two years, I am determined to fit it in to the budget. If fuel costs continue to rise, and there is little reason to hope that it won't, this may be the last year. (Of course, I hope not)
i thought u were giving away the 310 kevin? did u change ur mind?
Not giving it away, word is, it was sold in late December. No official word from Kevin to confirm, other than him posting it was sold on a pilot forum
