  • By buddy Coyle offered me a flight in his Beautiful/Iconic Cessna 195 to pick my plane up from the software/autopilot upgrades. Love the sound of the Radial Engine purring. What an amazing airplane Cessna made. Think it's my new favorite single engine plane!!
    Thanks again Coyle! :)

    Man, such a difference in IMC! While it's always good to stay sharp and hand fly approaches from time to time, the stress reducing effect of a solid ap really makes a difference. Congrats!

    Former owner of N 4336N, a 1947 C 195 w/ X-wind gear, this brought back many good memories. 36N's paint job was identical to the one you were in. When I 1st saw the thumbnail, I had to immediately look for the tail number to make sure it wasn't our "Dirty Sally." Hoping one of these days you can do a full review of this classic beauty.

      @@flyingmechanic1 ouch, the infamous “ ground loop”. Damn good reason I fly an archer. I can screw it up in other ways 😂. A few years ago we had a gorgeous 195 here at kmic do a ground loop off the hard pan into the turf strip . He asked the tower if they witnessed that . They graciously said no and he went about his embarrassing taxi back to his hangar. A guy I know in KMNN has a gorgeous 195 as well. There are only two GA tailwheels I would want - a 195 or a 185 sky wagon. Both awesome planes. But at 74 I can bend over my archer wing to fuel it vs climb a ladder. Back to your plane - sure hope you can get that beauty in the air again as they represent aviation history in such a great fashion. 👍👍. Good luck

    As a teenager, I had the pleasure of going up in a 195 a few times. A good family friend owned one (N195BG). I believe it's still flying, but under new ownership. It was highly polished bare metal with USAF markings. One of the coolest planes I've flown in. My mom was a bit nervous of GA airplanes, but I remember her going up in it and our friend swinging the yoke over to the right and letting her fly it for a few minutes over UC Davis in northern California. Seeing this one brings back great memories.

Great job editing.

  • @GaryMCurran
    @GaryMCurran Před 2 lety +1

    I really wish you had spent more time with video from the 195. But, if you do get the opportunity to go flying again with him in that airplane, a full video of it would be awesome.
    Way back in the late 70s, early 80s, I had a couple of opportunities to ride, unfortunately not fly, in a Stearman. Pilot back then was in his 80s, having taught the Wright Brothers how to fly, and couldn't hear a word you said from so many hours flying behind radials with no headsets. A Stearman doesn't 'take off', it levitates off of the ground. Once the tail wheel comes up, it's like an elevator, it just continues to climb. It is the most docile and comfortable airplane in the air. The engine is something to listen to, especially if you don't have a headset to muffle it out, but I recommend only for short periods of time.
    You've got some tail dragger time. I learned to fly in a Cessna 150 and a couple of Piper Cherokees, but one of my favorite airplanes to fly in is a J3 Cub, especially in the summer time, down at 500' AGL, with the doors open. Richard Bach (Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and other aviation books) talks about that, over the midwest corn fields, and while I was flying in New England along the coastline, it really is the same sense. You are at peace with the world, you're not going all that fast (you can barely keep up with the traffic on the interstate if the wind is wrong) and it's just an amazing way to fly.
    I hope you and Jaime are doing well. Of course, we'd all like to know what's going on with you, but I also know you'll let us know in due time. In the meantime, thanks for these videos.
