Heard earlier about Steve Harley..only just getting over the shock of losing Karl Wallinger..
The Ninth Wave is wonderful, for me the highlight of Hounds of Love.
Roger Waters has always been really pissed off that Roy Harper managed to sing Have A Cigar when he just couldn't cut it...hard to imagine anyone else singing it now.
This Time Tomorrow is one of my favourite Ray Davies songs.
Exodus is my favourite Bob Marley, just one great cut after another..Wait in Vain is so lovely.
Struggle with Ege Bamyasi, definitely one i need to listen to again.
Enjoy the Silence is my favourite Depeche Mode song..loved the video of David Gahn dressed as a King wandering over the moors too.
    Some excellent choices Dale.

Thanks Rob, I seem to have hit on a lot of your favourites. Let's hope we have a long quiet period without losing any more music greats...

Really great selections, Dale and I agree with you on these. I still haven't heard the entire Pet Sounds album, but I do know God Only Knows. When I saw some videos for this thread, I did wonder about albums that were only ever on CD, and then on vinyl later, which sort of relates to your Last Shadow Puppets observation.

Yes it's interesting with CD era albums. I'm sure artists would have planned the overall sequence of the songs carefully to flow on the CD. I'd therefore expect that to take preference to what that might mean for a vinyl record. You couldn't really have both...

My favorite B side opener is The Boxer on Simon and Garfunkels Final album Bridge Over Troubled Water. The ultimate epic ballad that pulls out all the stops both musically and thematically. The pummeled soul stands wearily to fight another day.

The Boxer is a great song and was on my long list...

Hi Dale - another highly enjoyable video. I’ve a good friend who absolutely loves Sloop John B. So sad about Steve Harley. I am not familiar with the Last Shadow Puppets so will have to check them out! I enjoyed the Hank Mobley Jazz album. So I guess that the classic vinyl era ends with Dire Straits ushering in the CD era ! Have a good week. Cheers Bill

Hi Bill, I do like the song Sloop John B but don't think it belongs on Pet Sounds...Definitely check out The Last Shadow Puppets album I showed if you can...cheer Dale

That's an interesting theme, Dale. I haven't seen any of the others. It's funny how when you started to describe it, the first thing that popped into my head was God Only Knows, which imho is the perfect pop song. Sloop John B, I believe, was forced on them by the label, but (don't tell anyone) I quite like it! 😎 I also thought it interesting challenging whether a track is actually intended to be B1 or track 6 or 7, which just happens to be the first track on side B when converted from CD to vinyl. Great video, Dale. Cheers

Enjoyed you take on this thread. It's a shame but I do think the post-vinyl / CD age means you can't be certain what is a genuine side B1 any longer...

Totally agree about Pet Sounds. God Only Knows to me is the best Beach Boy song

So many great openers there Dale. I’m not really a fan of The Beach Boys, but God Only Knows is very special (and McCartney wished he’d wrote it). Have a Cigar great choice and Low I love the way side 2 is so different to the first and Warsawa is a great side 2 opener. Lola vs Powerman’s This Time, yes of course, great choice. Really enjoyed video Dale. Mike

    Hi Dale
I didn't know about Steve Harley, what a shame. And I was enjoying my Sunday. Nice choices though....although I've always liked Sloop John B on Pet Sounds.

I think Sloop John B is one of the better songs on Pet Sounds.

Sorry to put a downer on your Sunday James. I don't mind Sloop John B as a song but it doesn't fit Pet Sounds for me.

Awww … sad news about Steve Harley… Come Up and See Me is a great song. Classic selections Dale! I’d consider The Last Shadow Puppets as a Track 7 song… but an amazing song nonetheless! I always thought it would have been a perfect song for a Bond soundtrack if a woman had have sung it.

I agree it's a Track 7 song for CD that happens to open side B of the vinyl record.

I've never seen that version of Low. Lovely indeed copy of Ege Bamyasi.

I'm lucky to have found UK OG copies of Ege Bamyasi and Future Days in recent years (not cheap mind!)

I’ve given Pet Sounds lots of listens. I find it to be an over rated album. Half of the songs are great but the other half do nothing for me. Sloop John B is one that I really like. I think Low is another over rated album.

Low is probably my favourite of the three Berlin albums but I don't think any of them are in my Bowie top 5
