The Gilded Age American Heiress Exhibition opened to the public here at Mapperton on the 5th May. However, if you can’t make it in person you can buy a ticket (3 cups of coffee) for a virtual hour long tour with me, and support this ongoing project over at www.buymeacoff...
A new exhibition offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Alberta Sturges Montagu, the 9th Countess of Sandwich, and an American Heiress from the renowned era known as The Gilded Age.
Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.
Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.
The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.
“With the aid of cutting-edge AI technology, we've resurrected Alberta's voice, allowing her to answer visitors’ burning questions about her remarkable journey,” says Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke.

My husband has alzheimers. Our planned trip to London and the beautiful English countryside were put on hold , in fact, we may never get there. At 75 and 78 it just may be impossible. We do, however, travel with Julie and Luke almost daily. We often rewatch episodes , a pleasure for me and he doesn't remember watching the first time...
Thank you for sharing your home and your lives. It makes these old Alabama history buffs happy!

I’ll forever be puzzled by the fact that they have been married for at least 20 years and therefore Julie has been part of the family for that long but looks like this is the first time she comes in contact with all this clothing, letters, history etc. if I had the privilege of being part of such a family I’d get lost in the house looking for treasures or reading everything I’d be allowed to touch all the time!

Hi to UK, I am a Canadian Financial Advisor. Julie , write a book about meeting Luke...the whole thing and get a great publisher! I am sure you have one and a Land Titles expert. Sometimes it is so hard not to throw out ideas. My own home came after a luxury living in condo because I now know what luxury living is...when you don't wake up to the next project. And to boot, this 1892 home was not my idea. Two summers ago, I woke up to my neighbor saying that if the masonry work around 16 windows and 4 doors was next to dropping soft bricks on the sills and entrances. So I made up my mind to do it myself. From May to the end of October I was up on a ladder next to the roof line...chipping out old masonry like wafers of dry stuff falling on my face with a narrow chisel and cake piping bags to pipe in the new wet masonry. I did get the job done and no one would notice the new stuff.... it was just so close to the original. I look at what you have ahead and I feel your pain. Every year for the past 8 years that I have lived here, has been a hard project to do. My city has offered to pay for the greater portion of two fireplaces to be restored. Ok... let's get some quotes. So I am sure you have looked a heritage foundations....trusts who would take an interest in restoring your property and heavens that I should even ask this one....is there a way to remove physical property from the title that has no value to the working portion of the estate? Would that be worthwhile to look at? I have a thousand questions. I would love to help but as a Canadian, my knowledge is limited to securities markets and financial planning as well as Estate planning. I feel your pain and own one myself just not as big. I did gut the house and what I have now is amazing and MY pain is that my children do not want it but will sell it off. I hate that my grandchildren whom I left it to will not use it.
If you feel there is something I can offer in terms of a plan, then let me know. My info is above. Thoughts and prayers.....Diane

I love them all especially the 18th century gowns. the one you mentioned that's your favorite, I don't know why, probably because of the color theme but it makes me think Christmas vibes probably because of the reds and greens. I did see bits of blue but the red and green stands out to me a lot.
