As someone who used to help my mom manage her rental landlords have to be strict because the laws for getting rid of a non paying renter are strict & time consuming to go through all the red tape. In nigeria if someone doesn't pay you throw there things out and change the locks. So they are doing their due diligence to avoid drama and trust me people do take advantage.

This housing thing is crazy because sometimes even those working they find it difficult to to even get accommodation, pay 12months upfront 🙄🙄🙄 the hell this is now crazy now, apartment of your choice is a hot cake, we are not even talking about the rent, I hope you guys find something you love ❤by the way your blue sweater outfit is beautiful love it ❤the first one viewed isn’t bad once you furnish to your taste plus it has a patio Abi bacolny ❤ and your makeup love it ❤

Renting in UK is tough. Wishing you both luck with this. A lot of reference checks go into it and you might need a guarantor to get a place you like

Its unfortunate that they are taking advantage of new students, before then we used to pay one month rent and one month deposit, or lf you don't have full deposit we used to pay 2 weeks deposit some not even a deposit, but things are changing, but to ask for one year rent even them they can't pay because they are estate agent so they just want their commission in hand in case people who rent they can't afford to pay rent anymore.

Renting in the UK right now is difficult because there is a housing crisis. I would suggest looking to rent flats that are available in January/February. People are looking for move in ready flats so there is not a lot of competition for flats available early next year. Once the landlord accepts you and you secure the unit with a deposit you can then plan to live in an Airbnb until it's ready. Also, I suggest using the site Open Rent so you can work directly with the landlords. Open Rent does all the verification for you so there is some security in using them. Best of luck to you!

Please don’t mention being a student to these estate agents / landlords / home owners. They will always to take advantage and they are only after your money. Can I also suggest areas where rent is cheaper but not too far for example Dartford, Bexleyheath, Slade Green……

Welcome to the club 😅. I am a Cameroonian living in Germany and I remembered of a time when I had to go for an apartment viewing appointment. When I arrived I saw Germans who have come with luxury cars for the viewing but guess what, two days later I received an email from the landlord that they have decided to give the apartment to me😅

My sister moved to the Uk has a Nurse this year and she struggled to get an apartment and that's because she was pregnant. The moment they see her they wont give her. she didn't get an apartment until her Husband got to the Uk and went searching himself. Uk and their rules.
