    the concept of bidding for apartments to rent (not to buy) is just a wild thing, now that I think of it

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  Před 11 měsíci +1

      indeed! very strange and uncomfortable 🙈

  • @meylox7927
    @meylox7927 Před rokem +65

    The idea of "putting down and offer" for monthly rent is CRAZY to me as a swede, sounds very capitalistic 💀

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  Před rokem +4

      indeed, it’s not ideal ☹️

    • @johnvickers5627
      @johnvickers5627 Před 11 měsíci

      That would probably be because it’s a capitalist nation thousands of miles away from Sweden.

    • @msme9790

      It’s not even an option in the US. The overpriced price is the price.

  • @laianepeixoto698
    @laianepeixoto698 Před rokem +42

    The offer price it doesn't have to be always higher... I think it depends of the landlord. The one that I got the landlord has multiples flat and live abroad with an agency mediating everything. So we ask 50 pounds less and he accepted.

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  Před rokem +5

      Totally agree! We didn’t have any luck getting a place without offering more £ but certainly depends on the situation/landlord/tenant etc ✨ glad you got a place with a deal !!!

    • @ceebee1461
      @ceebee1461 Před rokem +6

      Recent market is crazy. In the past my BF and I got both our previous flats for at less than asking. One was 200 less than asking, the other was 350 less than asking. But we have to move now and this time round it was a different world flat hunting. We even struggled to get viewings because it’s so competitive atm. All the agents we saw told us to see as many other agents as we can because they don’t have enough properties for how many people are looking.

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  Před rokem +1

      oh wow! yeah that’s a pretty stark difference between now and your previous experiences ☹️ like you, we had a few that we were super keen to inspect and we too couldn’t even get in to see them - it felt super competitive. it’s such a shame! all the best for your search 💘

    • @laianepeixoto698
      @laianepeixoto698 Před rokem +2

      @@ceebee1461 yeah, I had the same experience. I can't count how many time they cancel a viewing because someone placed a holding deposit.
      Actually the place that I'm now, I only manage to get because I also did place the deposit before viewing. My luck was because the place had a good video showing the flat so we felt confurtable about it. But it was lucky for sure... I will try to avoid that in the future.
      The frustration was so much that we did this shot in the dark. I was so relieved when I went there the next day to see the flat and it was exactly how was is the video.

  • @libbyt2581
    @libbyt2581 Před rokem +44

    Flat 2 and 7 were my favourites!❤️ I've been flat hunting recently too so I can empathise on how frantic and competitive it is. My budget was much lower than yours so it was even more chaotic as some of the apartments I saw had so many people seeing them. Even did a group viewing at one point which was super unpleasant; honestly seeing the competition makes it so much worse lol. Glad you found somewhere though, you can relaxxxx now.

    • @georgiadoust

    As a London flat renter myself, I soon learned that isnwouod be easier not to tell landlords about little changes, ie just replacing the bed myself, so long as you leave the new bed when you vacate, it wouldn't be an issue

    I used to rent in Hackney - subsidised by hackney council - double story one bed flat with huge kitchen and open
    Plan lounge room upstairs and a huge balcony overlooking liv st -£950 a month. If you can believe it our rent went DOWN every year thanks to the council.
    Had to move out of London after 6 or so years due to too much noise affecting our mental health 😅

      Thank you 💘 if you’re already familiar with the area you want to live in, a lot of real estate agents offer virtual viewing options however, I was totally new and personally found seeing the place IRL pretty important for context to understand the neighbourhood, street noise. • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  Před rokem +1

      Ah, so glad 😊 we only had to flat hunt for 2 weeks but it was all day, everyday for those 2 weeks (and we felt ~lucky~ that we found a place in that time)! We kept an eye on zoopla/right move in the months before arriving just to get a sense of price etc but we didn’t know which areas we wanted to live in so we didn’t start looking properly until we arrived. I’m glad we did wait as we went to quite a few places that weren’t as nice as their videos/photos or they weren’t in great locations that we couldn’t tell until we were on the ground ✨

    • @georgiadoust

    Whoa, whoa, whoa, just watched your Sydney flat tour before this video and I can't believe that apartment was 500$, and in London your budget skyrocketed to 3,4$ to rent a place you like with the current conversion rate? Did I get it right? 😱
    PS Loved the flat 7, because of the vibe I could even imagine living there myself haha and you guys too!

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  Před rokem +7

      haha, very observant! so there is a difference between how each market prices their rentals - Sydney does rent price per week and London does them per calendar month (pcm) 💫 so in Sydney our place is $500 AUD per week and in London it’s £1850 GBP per month.
      with conversions, what we’re paying in London is around $747 AUD per week (so not a drastic jump in price but we could certainly get a bigger place in Sydney with that budget) 💘
      hope that makes sense & thanks for watching the vlogs !!
      yeah, flat 7 was such a chill ~homely~ vibe 😍
