Really nice, concise, thorough review. Actually, one of the best I've seen. You get right to the point without blathering on before getting to the point. Thank you, I'm a new fan!

Weatherby is producing five star weaponry. Absolutely excellent. I am a huge fan of light rifles. My 33806 Ackley improved weighs 6.7 pounds with scope ready to go.

I’m glad you like your backcountry, my experience in 308 is a cold bore one-shot wonder… it’s an awesome sub MOA group with 10 minutes between each shot… I am hard pressed to hit 3 balloons at 100 yards in a fast string

Excellent review brother! Would love to see a 500 yard group and your take on the difficulty level with this rifle being so light.

@@TheCommonPatriot would you consider this a 700 yard rifle? I keep going back and fourth between this and the browning pro model I just can’t decide, both get mixed reviews both I really like.

Gee, I think the action alone on my sporterized 1903A3 is 4lbs 9oz's.
Seems like a top notch rifle. Thought they'd put a 1/8.5 or 1/8 twist in that.

I have that same rifle except I have a Leupold 4.5 x 14 44MM. At 15.9 oz. the scope goes well with the rifle. Will be great hunting elk in Montana next hunting season.

Along those lines, I think the vx3i 3.5-10 Leupold would be a much better match for such a feather weight rifle as this one.

Hi, good review. I'm interested in this gun in a different cartridge. One thing I would like to add is that the safety has the premium feature of locking the bolt while engaged. My Sakos, CZ, and a newer Savage have this. I will never own another gun that doesn't lock the bolt. I have had other makes were even when walking to my blind on the road I would look down and the action would be open. When stalking I would look down and the action would be open, filled with trash, and the round had fallen out. Even better is a three position safety were you can cycle the bolt while on safe. Some people pan that as they say that they get confused that there is one more step/position ( unable to walk and chew gum???). That said I CAN see myself doing that when the shot of a lifetime presents..so maybe two position is better.

I thought the Mark Vs had a bolt lock. The Vanguards do. I much prefer a Tikka.

The 280 is a 30-06 round necked down to a 7mm bullet. The 280AI was created by Parker Ackley as a way to squeeze some extra velocity out of the 280 case by moving the shoulder up a bit, straightening the case walls, and increasing the shoulder angle to 40 degrees!
