- I show you how to fix most Chromebooks that have a black screen issue even-though you know its on from the little LED light. So your Chromebook is on but the screen or display does not come on (screen is in sleep mode and won’t wake up) its just black or blank. This should work on most Chromebooks.. Google, Samsung, Samsung Galaxy, HP, Acer, Lenova, Asus, etc. Hope this helps.

Spouse's Chromebook did this and and we were both baffled, but could see that there was power to the book-I knew the illumination setting fix, but that didn't help. The force-power-down, then close and wait 3 seconds was a trick I didn't know, and it worked! Thanks so much... (Although my spouse is now out of bed and on the computer instead.)

Yay! My son brought home his school's Chromebook and in the middle of his assignment, it just went black! Ngl but we started to freak out because we did A LOT of work. The powering off and closing the lid trick worked for us and we were able to pick up where we left off on his school project. OMG thank you for showing us this trick to get the darn thing working again!

No, didn't help. Even disconnected the battery internally. Also did the who hit the refresh button and power button. I got it to work once now it's not coming back on.

@@who7237 I eventually got it to work. I had to completely open up my computer disconnect the battery and then the lcd screen. Reconnect everything and it works just fine now

Hi! I hope you can help me with my chromebook. It's just months old, but unfortunately out warranty. Last month it suddenly turned off, it didn't turned on even if it's charged ( i know cus the led is green). So I took it to a tech then it was already fixed. But just days after again it suddenly turned off, no power. I charged it over 24 hours, I even used 220v power supply (cus Im here in Japan and the input is 110 only). I tried every hard reset and looked up in the internet, still it doesn't turn on. What should I do? The power button only lights on when i press it. Is there any other way without spending money on tech shops? 😭

Your advice is solid so I want to know if you know anything about a flashing screen. The cromebook will not come on, only flashes dark and bright. No images or words.
I have also tried refresh+power. I have made sure it is fully charged.
I've pressed shirt+ctrl+alt+r to attempt report.

Mine is still black screen... it used to at least show recovery but now it's just always black screened 😩

I suspected i had a hardware issue on my sons chromebook.. has some clear drops on the metal frame. I was very surprised that this worked even though i tried regular hard shut down and a few other things. Following these exact steps... hard shutdown, leave it closed for 3 seconds, open, and let it boot. Boom his computer is fixed. Thanks

I wish that would have worked. Thanks for the tip. We have an Acer 314 out of warranty. When I turn it on, if I look at an extreme angle, I VERY faintly see the word “Chrome” in the center of the screen (nearly black), followed by a slight flicker, then nothing. The thing that sucks about having to restart is I usually have important stuff open when I have to do it. Just today I had over 10 tabs open (all of them I needed open) but my screen blacked out and had to reboot the chromebook. The blacking out has been happening more and more frequently and it confuses me because it's a pretty new chromebook. Is this something that just happens to chromebooks?
