How to Turn on a Chromebook that is not Turning on. It has a blank screen, but the power light is on.
First, unplug any USB devices and check to see that the screen is not darkened, check by pressing the 'light up' button on the keyboard. If it is still a blank screen, and it is charged, then follow the steps as seen in the video. System should power on and screen should work. If it still does not power on, plug unit into power and see if it is charging properly. Repeat the first steps of pressing and holding the power button, close the clam shell, then reopen.

Acer Chromebook 315 would not respond to any fixes including the ctrl+alt+shift+refresh + power or just the 10 second power. Then I decided to drain the power which took a day or two, and the plugged in the power supply to get orange light, opened up clamshell, and voila! Your video was helpful and concise, thank you!

@@user-bs4kd6up9b Normally, Chromebooks are not opened. It is possible to do as you say, but in class, my students and I have not needed to do that. Once the battery is disconnected or drained, the system will turn off.

I have the spin 311. The blue light is red when I plug in the charger on the left side. I uses to be able to do a hard reset. Now I'm stuck with a black screen, and a red power light. What does that mean and what other options do i have? Help! I miss my Chromebook

I see. I am sorry to hear of that. It does sound like the same issues that have been fixed by doing the steps as seen in the video. Have you tried holding down the keys longer?

1st method held down for 10 secs great that worked opened up light came on but still no screen and 2nd method didnt work

I have 2 Chromebooks (Lenovo and Samsung) that having similar issue where they wont boot, and no light when charger plugged in. I've tried hard reset on both and nothing happens. I've used 4 different chargers that all work on other devices. The Lenovo has 2 USB-C ports and both usually can be used to charge, and neither are working. I believe it's software related, the Lenovo is my daughter's and died yesterday, and I setup the Samsung for her with her profile and today the same thing happened to the Samsung. Any other suggestions to try?
If you believe that it is software related, then please do a powerwash and not just a reset as seen here:

But I fear that it may be hardware related, as I have seen a bad charger damage the USB-C charging ports..
@@selmateacher7 Thanks for the reply, I can't do a powerwash as I can't get them to power up at all. I thought it may have been bad USB-C charging ports too, but the Lenovo has 2 USB-C and both can be used as charging ports, but neither currently work, and there was a bad charger, it wouldn't have been used in both ports, only one. I've test both ports with a new cable now and it still doesn't work.
@@peterchu8607 I have seen a bad charger kill a Chromebook like this, so that it will not charge on either port.
I tried your 1st & 2nd method, yes, it does turn off and it turn on again but the screen still remains black. What should i do?
Plug it into power and then please try again. In class, it did take a few tries on some Chromebooks.
I have watched your video my Chromebook is fully charged turn it off but it won't turn off. I can't get my Chromebook screen to light up I have tried everything. I don't know who to contact as far as helping me out get my screen to light up
I am sorry to hear that. If the Chromebook is being very difficult. Close the lid and Set the Chromebook aside for about 5 minutes then try both methods again. This has worked on my student's Chromebooks
So, the one Im trying to repair will reboot, but then stay at the black screen. I can see the mouse, but nothing comes up after that.
Oh wow. Seeing the mouse pointer , but nothing else is different. That may be a hardware issue, after trying the brighten key, checking the charger, unplugging all USB devices, I would attempt to reset that Chromebook.

When did the touchscreen stop working? Before it stopped working , did you see any screen defects ? You may need to do a powerwash as seen in my other videos.
I was using chromebook when all of sudden the screen became glitchy and made horrible sounds, i could see website on screen a little but it was mostly covered in cube looking glitches, i turned it off, and then when i tried to turn it on, it kept popping up the G logo and it would go away for some moment, and then it would reappear again, this kept going on for long time, so i shut down computer once again, now it just doesn't turn on, at some point keyboard lights up within the blink of an eye and then go away, i tried every method, the blue circle on side lights up for one second when i click power button and refresh, i tried doing same methods with charger, the circle was green with charger on, but it still didn't turn on, it's obvious that the keys and lights are working but screen is still blank, i don't think it's the charger either, this happened when i first bought chromebook (about three months ago) it turned on randomly while i was pressing power button, but this time there was glitch that prevents the chromebook from working, what else do you think?

I am sorry to hear that your Chromebook is giving this much trouble. I would recommend factory reset. I do have videos on how to do that. It will wipe the drive and reinstall the OS, hopefully correcting any corrupted files.
Neither worked for me 😢 light ison.. Screen is still black even after beung off for 24hr, AND charging for a separate hour. Still nothing. It was working fine one second, black screen the next and no response since

I was using my chromebook and suddenly it turned off and after that when i plug in no charging light shows and neither turning on pls help .....
I would start by testing the charging adapter. Do you have another one to see if the Chromebook charges?

@@rdagar7598I see. I would still test with a second adapter , you may try a hard reset by pressing and holding Back + Refresh + Power for at least 10 seconds or more.

Yes. You may reset it by doing
Sign out of your Chromebook.
Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
Select Restart.
In the box that appears, select Powerwash. Continue.
Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account. ...
Once you've reset your Chromebook, you may log back in and it should work.

My computer won’t turn on even after I use this, I’m not sure which button is considered the power button on my school computer, but it’s not working but the power light and keyboard works, just not the screen itself
The power button my be found on the side. Please try that one, if you do not see it on the top of the keyboard.
Where is the power button on the side?
When I tried checking for it, I only saw a headphone jack, a sd card slot, and a USB A and USB C port.
Each model is different . some have it on the side, others have it on the keyboard.

It may be the battery or charger. have you tested it with a second charger?

Both methods were not working but as a last shot I just held the refresh and clicked power button a couple times and boom shakalaka

My Chromebook has a black screen but works on a display I tried all of the steps and it did not work.
This method is to 'wake up' a Chromebook. Sorry, but It seems that yours is working, but the display is broken, that is why an ext. display worked on your unit.

Neither method works. When I hold the reset + power button, I see a blue and green light flash on but not the screen.
I plug in the charger, and a green light comes on, so it's fully charged.

After I opened the screen just stayed at the loading screen
You may have other issues going on wit the Chromebook. Have you tried resetting back to factory setting as seen in my other videos?

Do you see the light on or is it off? Also, when you connect power does the light change at all? Another thing to check is the screen brightness.

Nothing is working. Tried both methods. The light flickers from white to orange, then back to white almost immediately. The white light is always on.
