The Catholic concept of the immaculate conception was what caused Abbe Guette to question the whole Roman Catholic system in the first place and ultimately led him to Orthodoxy.

The best argument I have against "Immaculate Conception" is that depriving Mary of the very possibility of personal sin is denying she has free will (or gnomic will) and so denying she is a human hypostasis. This is even clearly suggested when the RC theologian cited here says that in a way she is "no longer a creature". In addition, we see in the formulation of the bull of 1854 that this pseudo-dogma is intimately related with the heretical scholastic idea of the "merits of Christ" in payment for "original sin" and "satisfaction" to the "offended Father". Saying that Christ had personal "merits" necessitated for salvation seems to imply a human hypostasis in Christ, thus a Nestorian christology. Two big heresies implied in this logic : the Theotokos is no longer a human person (she is infallible, unlike Eve or Adam before the Fall), but Christ has assumed a human person whose merits serve to give satisfaction for the sin of Adam. Of course, the very idea of the Father being "offended" and waiting for reparation is also highly disputable et regrettable (= augustinism and legalism of Anselm of Canterbury), while the Eastern Orthodox view is that Salvation comes from the fact that Christ, being God by nature, has voluntarily undergone death in the flesh, and by that very fact has destroyed death and broke the gates of Hades (cf. St John of Damascus and Troparion of Pascha). We should also mention that one of the councils gathered in Constantinople in the 12th century (if I remember well) specifically declared that the Eucharistic sacrifice was offered by Christ to all the Trinity and not only to the Father, an important doctrine which was meant to prevent any abusive "severing of the Trinity" in the Economy of salvation and also to render impossible any Nestorian-like (or even Arian-like) notion of the Passion of Christ as an "atonement" for sins thanks to the merits of Christ offered to the Father.

the Immaculate Conception does not deny the Holy Virgin free will, she could have sinned...of course (as Catholic and Orthodox agree) she never did. Rejoice o Virgin Theotokos!!!

I want to like this video, I really do. I want to know how the orthodox view the virgin mary. It's just so amazingly boring. Walls of text, boring into the details and endless comparative argument drowns out your unique perspective. Your inflammatory polemics are just kind of boring too. We all know feminists are wrong and doubling down on that with swear words feels blasé.
From 38:00 onwards you spend five minutes reading straight from a wall of text that's on the screen leaving only like a two sentence break to share your own perspective. I came here to see your perspective and hearing you read what I'm staring at is the basic no-no of power point presentations you learn in University (high school?). You're not using the medium for it's strengths, why not start a podcast instead of using video.
I get this is supposed to be an advertisement for a book. It hasn't stood on it's own as a video successfully and the book's reputation is hurt by it. I'm going to go somewhere else to continue my orthodox journey, the orthodox talks by priestmonk kosmas in sydney are quite good. They don't pretend to be a video. Forgive me for the criticism, it seems necessary.

@@rhb30001 no, the problem comes when you try and divorce the scriptures from the tradition that gave them. The difference is that Orthodoxy is the tradition given to us by Christ Himself, not something someone made up 2000 years later based on their own amateur interpretation.
Tradition is a set of teaching handed down through which one interprets scripture and lives one's life. We see in the new testament the apostles and even Christ Himself, telling us to follow the teachings, both written and spoken word. Sola Scriptura is the assumption that correct doctrine can only be taken from text. This is an unjustified assumption, and it contradicts the words of Paul in Thessalonians.
