Sonic doesn't need his shoes to be fast. The only reason he wasn't fast in Sonic Labyrinth is because Eggman gave him slow down shoes. The movie is canon, just not in the game universe. And finally, Shadow is NOT faster than Sonic. He is as fast as Sonic. Built by Gamers doesn't even know who Sonic is.

The movie is in its own universe, but most of the principles in the movies, also applys to the games. Kinda. There are still some things that are different loke Sonic's personality and capabilities, but they are both marginaly the same. The sonic lore is confusing af dont excpet it to make much sense.

It's because his feet get hurt when he runs which slows him down and irl if you run with no shoes on you go pretty slow and if you run with shoes on you go faster then you were going before so his shoes kinda give him a speed boost.

Also sonic speed was a bit slow in games to be more controllable

Sonic is too fast because if he runs normally like us it slows him down, but if he has his arms behind him it lets the the wind take his arms while he is still running. To sum up for what I said or if it don't make sense: Sonic let's his arms flow through the wind aka he keeps his arms behind him, if he runs that fast but runs like how we normally run it's only gonna limit him. Sonic has gotten faster each game. If Sonic still kept his old running style (first Sonic game) but at his fastest speed (newest Sonic games) then it would be limiting him which he would have trouble going faster but rather easily going slower. Makes sense? (Idk if it does, idk how to explain it better)

The reason Werehog is slow is because of Dark Gaia changing Sonic Fundamentally, it’s NOT the shoes (which don’t even get swapped out btw)

yea if a pro runner tried to run like sonic, all of their instincts would get in the way, and they'd actually be slower. This is specifically because, it's unsafe and the runner knows that. Even though the hands flying back is meant to be a stamina conserving method, as not swinging your arms would let you run a little longer. There is a slight speed benefit to someone willing to thwow caution to the wind. specifically from leaning that far foward. It forces each step to be an attempt to keep from falling foward. this can make your steps a little faster, though admitably not by too much.
