I'm no gate guy but rather a locksmith that has fixed a whole lot of poorly installed hardware,
self tapping screws are the bain of a good installation/repair, much better to drill and tap for a proper machine screw.
If you install a lot of these, consider making some jigs with some hardened steel drill guide bushings.

Wow. I hated those latches because they twist. Your Genius has changed my mind. 2 simple screws will make the latches usable. I heart CZcams.... usually
    Thanks for the video!

How do they twist? Not sure that’s possible.

I like the oneway latches too. I use both on my farm.

Thanks for posting great information. Looking to use same setup for residential picket fence with square tube frame and a 1 5/8 metal fence post .

Put a self taping set screw in it and it won't twist

  • @jacquelinesullivan2494

Does anyone have suggestions for farm gates that overlap?

    • @SWiFence

That was so long ago! I'm guessing a 5/16 (#14) and yes 1.5"

Just curious if and when you guys install 6, 7 or 8 ft tall fences for example all the farm gates out there on the market that are affordable are only 4 feet tall really so what do you do to install taller ones or to make the shorter ones taller without paying a fortune for the rot iron ones?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  Před rokem

Typically on a custom job like that we would make our own gate to accommodate the height of fence.

For a farm gate? Sorry--no. (I'm sure this isn't what you're looking for but here's a double privacy vinyl gate: czcams.com/video/3ypIPmPFA7Y/video.html)

How much clearance do you need between gate and post to install.

Goats are bad....I had one eat every connection off my trailer right after a total rewire....I was pretty hot. I charge extra to fence if the goats free range

Make gravity hinges and the gate will shut on its own....
    Did you close the gate?
    No! Gravity did.

  • @allenmcintosh1184

Personally I can't stand those latches. There are way better weld on slam latches that don't require your hand to be in the pinch point of the gate.
