Thanks, I found the latch in the corner of TSC were they sell automatic gate openers and tractor stuff.
This is a good way to hang a gate, unless you are using it for horses, cows etc. If you put the hinge hangers both facing up, the animal will lift the gate off. You have to put the bottom one facing up and the top one facing down. Good job, looks great!

You could add a third hinge in the middle pointing down. This would keep the strength of the two and prevent it from lifting.
Not hard to take small ratchet/socket and put the top hinge pointing down and secure it when installing. Also not too mention that no concrete in the hole will have the latch out of alignment in no time due to the post moving in the hole.
When I am concerned with this, I drill a hole above one hinge and drive a short piece of rear partially into the hole, directly above the hinge. I have never had a problem.

The reason for the top bolt ALWAYS facing down is so that an animal does not lift it while rubbing on it. Had a friend help me once with fencing and did not know this. Took an hour to catch my horses.
That latch is baddass! I am impressed! I've been let down by a few gate latch designs, that one looks pretty smart to.

Hi Pete, on those TSC gates the size of gate is the needed opening size allowing for hinges and latches so when i put in a 8' gate from face of one pole to other is 8',etc.up to 16'gate.I also got away with a 9/16 wood bit for hinges making it a little easier to turn in.

I've always found it baffling how you can auger a hole, stick a big post in it, and barely have enough dirt to refill the hole. I had that with a privacy fence I put up several years ago. I was even adding a half bag of quick-Crete and still short on dirt. Good video.

great vid. The only thing I would add is to plumb the hinge pins. All you need is a haystring and a weight 1/2" wrench works well, tie string though the closed end of the wrench. Hold the string and mark the plumb line where the pins go. OR install top pin hang sting from it mark the spot for the bottom pin (remember the sting is coming off the side of the pin so the bottom mark will be the side of the hole NOT the center. That way the gate will be level in all the planes. unless you want it to open or close by itself. I do this with critter / livestock gates so they close by themself. which can be done by manipulating the hinge on the gate. OR swing open for driveway gates (sometimes I add a bungee cord black rubber one to help hold them open or closes for dog gates.

As well as putting the top hinge facing down, you can also move those hinges to a more desired location…. Most of the time, you use a hammer or something hard to tap the hinge down… if you bring the top hinge down to your second horizontal rail then that would eliminate the ability to tap it down

Try hooking the box end of a large (1 1/4") wrench on the hinge bolt to turn it. You'll have a lot more leverage than with the vice grips. Ive enjoyed the vids. Thanks!

Great videos yo do. Suggestion: Turn the top gate pin so it faces DOWN - adjust the sliding hinge on the gate as needed. Gate can't be lifted off by accident or intent unless the hinge on the gate is loosened.

I like this wire fence gate! However, even if locked with a latch or chain on the opposite side, thieves can simply lift the gate off the hinges without using a set of bolt cutters, giving them a wide opening to steal your property or cattle. Turning the top hinge down prevents this, and may at least slow them down. Leave the Dobie inside for an extra layer of security. My dog always gives me a heads up when we have 'visitors', and is a good deterrent when no one is home. BTW, that sure is a strange accent for native East Texan... Is Texas turning into Florida?
Fence installer here. You flip the top j hook down to actually lock the gate in place. The bracket with the eye hook on the gate is adjustable and can be lowered or raise onto the flipped j hook. The top j hook now facing down locking the gate in place.

Thanks for the informative video but I was hoping to see how I can put a gate on with the hinges facing in opposing directions.I'm having problems with hanging my gate with one hinge facing up and the other facing down. Tant pis - I'll probably manage in the end!
The top hinge on the gate should slide up or down. So when you're ready to hang the gate, you slide the part of the hinge on the gate up to the hinge on the post. Hope this helps.

At 15: 18 go ahead and attach the latch and it will hold the post where it needs to be while you are packing the dirt. just an idea.

Cool video thanks for sharing, I like those Gates and I want to buy some but aren't you a little bit afraid of just having a single 10 foot gate there if there was ever a fire that the fire trucks and or Cal Fire caterpillars wouldn't fit through a single 10-foot Gate? Also why don't you put cement in your holes around the bottom of your posts to make them stronger? My third question is what if someone bought these gates but wanted to install them onto galvanized metal posts instead of wooden posts how would someone go about doing that with the included hinges or Fasteners or would they need to get different hinges or fasteners?

My two cents worth: since you are installing many posts, may I suggest some strapping to mount your level to the post, so it stays on while you work, fill and check your level. Also for the pole latch portion. Would it be better to notch out a flat surface for stronger mount? Great job throughout. Thank you.

Wow, I wished I had rock free dirt like that. That hole takes a half hr plus to to dig here and I’m probably stopping to change the sheer pin.
I complain about my red clay soil, but I guess I'd rather have the red clay soil than rocky soil.

I prefer the threaded bolt hooks that use 2 washers and 2 nuts, drill through the post, slide in the bolt hook. Infinitely adjustable with 2 wrenches, no need to pull the gate. If the far end is a bit high or low, adjust the nuts on the top bolt. If the gate latch is a bit too close or far from the part on the post, adjust both top and bottom bolt hooks to bring the gate in or push it out a bit.
What is going to keep the deer from jumping the gate?
I have those threaded bolts that hook the gate on my front entrance gate. I should do an update video on the gate. I added 1 1/4 EMT conduit on each end of the gate tube. It fit perfectly in the gate tube and put barbed wire across each conduit.

Thanks, yes I coated the bottom of the posts with Henry #201 roof coating mixed with a little diesel fuel to thin it out just enough to brush it on easier.

if you are fencing for livestock you will want to have your top gate bolt pointing down (means you have to loosen the top gate mount to put it on though) otherwise an animal can put its head in the gate and lift it right off the hinges

I don't have a video on it but I shoved electrical conduit in the pipes at the ends of the gate up to the height of the fence, then I strung barbed wire acrossed the conduits.

The posts are locally made. You'll have to do some research in your area. The posts are treated 6 inch tops and are 10ft long.

Yes everything is getting very expensive but we'll probably have a few more years of this. To find the center of the posts, just use a tape measure and measure across the post and mark the center, then turn 90 degrees and measure again and mark the posts center. Hope this helps.

That's a tamping bar, you can get it at tractor supply.
Would you say this gate would make a good front security gate for a ranch?
Say, with some solid cemented posts, and the latch you used, you think it'd hold back a sedan?
No, I think most gates will bend or fold if hit with a vehicle. The latch I used would not hold either. If you find a heavy duty gate, you would be better off using a chain and lock.
A heavy duty cable connected to 2 steel posts cemented into the ground is the best "gate". If you can't cut the cable with a bolt cutter, you won't bust through it with a vehicle. Just remember the strongest fence is only as strong as it's weakest point.

How do you go about painting these if this is powder coated? Please don't say sanding... lol all of the SPINDLES... would take forever. I want to use this gate but I want it in white.
Does the gate have to have a corner post? My corners will be 100 or so from my gate or do I have to make another one for a gate or will two single polls on each side do okay? Thank you for the vids.
You could make an H-post on the hinge side of the gate or make sure the post on the hinge side is deep at least 3 feet deep and use concrete.
