Arwen's mother, Celebrian, is actually the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel. While traveling between Rivendell and Lothlorien many years ago, she was captured and tortured by Orcs in the mountains. Her twin sons (sadly not featured in the movies) rescued her, and Elrond was able to heal her physically - but not spiritually. She crossed the sea to the Undying Lands to find total healing, where she awaits the rest of her family.

At 9:19 you ask where Arwen's mom is. Her name was Celebrian, and she was Galadriel's daughter. She was captured by Orcs and received a poisoned wound about 500 years before our story. Elrond's sons (who don't appear in the movies) rescued her, and Elrond healed her wound, but she lost all delight in Middle-earth and departed for the Undying Lands a year later.

Gimli is the son of Glóin, a member of Thorin's company in Tolkien's earlier book The Hobbit.
He becomes close friends with Legolas, overcoming an ancient enmity of Dwarves and Elves.
He was a remote descendant of Durin the Deathless, chief of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves and ancestor of the Longbeards.
Gimli was of the royal line, but not close to the succession; he was the third cousin once removed of Dáin II Ironfoot.

J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of the original books, was a philologist (someone who studies languages) and created the languages of Middle-Earth for fun. Apparently, his passion for mythmaking was rivaled only by his passion for constructing languages.
Another fun fact is that The Hobbit (and later The Lord of the Rings), was originally an oral story that Tolkien would tell to his children before bedtime, but his son Christopher would point out minor discrepancies in each retelling, prompting Tolkien to begin writing the story down. Christopher would later give feedback on LOTR as a teen and young adult.

The Battle of Helm's Deep is one of my favorite scenes ever in a movie. The ups and downs, the sense of hopelessness at being outnumbered and outmatched followed by the elation of new allies joining the fight. Then the terror at watching the walls and gate be breached and the sorrow of watching friends and allies fall in scores. And then, when all seems lost and it becomes a "final stand" kind of situation, Gandalf the GOAT rides in with the exiled Rohirrim and saves the day. I love too how they don't shy away from showing you that even though they won, it's a bittersweet conclusion. I could go on and on about how perfectly executed the entire scene is.

The dwarves only sent Gimli and Gloin to the Council because they could not spare any more of their people at the time.
Sauron's armies were simultaneously attacking the Lonely Mountain and Dale, so the Dwarves were busy fighting a war with Mordor. Therefore, they could not send anyone south to aid Rohan, Gondor, or any other city.
Not to mention they lost a lot of Dwarves already before and during helping Bilbo Baggins.

I love how you're calling Gimli "master dwarf"! He's such an underrated character (at least his film version) and absolutely deserves recognition - he's not afraid to jump into a HORDE of orcs and can effectively slay enemies that are almost twice his size; he can snap an orc's neck when half of his body is immobilised and he's in a most vulnerable position; he's a master of the axe just as Legolas is a master of the bow; he's even able and willing to be running three days without food or rest even though his physique isn't built for that at all; and as a dwarf, he has all the fascinating knowledge of metallurgy, armory, and jewellery that I admire a great deal!
And no worries about not getting everything right, not calling some character(s) the right name etc.) and it possibly sounding disrespectful - it's more than evident that you've got a great respect for the characters and you're even genuinely eager to learn more about the lore, and especially if you haven't read the books, there's really no need at all to be worried about something like this ;) Amazing reaction, I can't wait for you getting to The Return of the King - I can only promise that it will for sure be a BLAST ;)
I'm especially excited for the part where you'll find out who "SHE" is that Gollum mentioned here 😏

I’m paraphrasing a bit here but ,To give some context about the northern Kingdom of Arnor where Aragorn and the few other descendants come from. After Isldur died his three sons argued on the fate of the realm which ultimate split into Arnor ,Cardolian, Rhudar. Give or take a thousand years after Sauron fell the Witch King fled to the North to get his revenge for his master’s fall. He created the realm known as Angmar (the realm of ice and steel I believe) he then turned the realm Rhudar against the other two. He then spent the next 700-800 years waging war until the Northern realms were shattered. Angmar was only defeated by the high elves ( Glorifindel, Elrond) and Gondor armies. Sadly though the realm of Arnor was irreversibly shattered leaving the descendants to wander the north as rangers. Always protecting the realm of Earidaor and its people from the horrors they are ignorant about.

I'm absolutely loving your reactions man, especially with my childhood movies here.
You're right in that there is some overlap in the fanbases, but in the beginning there was almost a competitive edge between the two as the Lord of the Rings movies came out at the same time as the Harry Potter ones.
They are SO different in tone - LOTR is very dark and serious overall and quickly plunges you into that reality. It deals with war and it's consequences on a deep and spiritual level that I don't think any other movie really ever reaches. It also has strong environmentalist and pagan overtones as well which is rare to find really.
Harry Potter gets dark, sure, and quite serious, but it's overall tone is pure comfort film.
Get ready for the ending in Return of the King. If you thought Harry Potter gets emotional...

I would say that I am a fan of both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter is great but Lord of the Rings is more excellent. The content and world JRR Tolkein pinned is unmatched by any fantasy author and carries a deeper meaning that spans a lot of topics that can be applied, even in the state of the earth now. The feelings and epic journey these films evoke are not easily described, as it is layer upon layer.
"One does not simply watch Lord of the Rings". It gets more epic and the journey is felt every single time. You, as a new person coming into Lord of the Rings, the movie does it as much justice as possible. It's extremely detailed and beyond rich in lore and legend. I could go on forever. This is a masterpiece. If I had to pick one of these two films, it is Lord of the Rings, hands down. This story is unmatched in Epic Fantasy. It is the perfect Trilogy of High Fantasy. The cast was perfect here, flawless victory in cinema.

At 3:37 you wonder about the creatures attacking the column. They are called Wargs, and in the book, they are large, intelligent werewolves. You'll see them again if you watch the Hobbit movies. None of this part of the script occurs in the book; Peter Jackson & Co. have strayed pretty far from Tolkien's story in this part of the movie. In the book, the Company are attacked at night by a pack of Wargs, at a point in FOTR between their defeat on Caradhras and entering the Mines of Moria. Gandalf ultimately defeats them by setting an entire hilltop on fire. In the morning, the bodies of the slain Wargs have disappeared, and all of Legolas's spent arrows are lying on the ground. It is the main reason the Company entered the Mines of Moria.

Celebrian is not dead. She sailed to the Undying lands after the orcs held her captive and wounded her. Elrond healed her body but she couldn't find any joy in Middle Earth anymore so she left for Valinor.

Gimli is just a dwarf not a Dwarf King. If you review the Hobbit trilogy there are Dwarf Kings in those films. Aragorn calling Gimli Master Dwarf is just like me calling you Mr

Didn't they make another one? I could have sworn that there was another movie after this. I'm going to research this first though. If I find out they made another one after this movie, I'll let you know.

The boys and old men are going to die anyway if the fortress is taken. They can help supply the others and are armed if threatened. They can help cover the retreat of their mothers and younger siblings. But they can die fighting which automatically sends them to the Halls of their Fathers as the Horse Lords model their afterlife. 🐴🐎

I honestly could never really get into Harry Potter. I mean they’re good and I’ve seen all the movies at least twice each because my ex is really into it, but I have no interest in watching them regularly. Not like LOTR. It only took 3 movies to have me hooked and I have all the books and know the background and the fact that a whole language was created just for this trilogy is so dope!! The characters speak for themselves and when you think about it, there was never a real lead character because every main character played a different part for the same cause and held their own in each role.

Sorry kid, but you're an amateur. Theaters in the late 1970s and early 80s used to run Planet of the Apes movie Marathons. That's starting with 1969 plus four more. Nearly ten hours worth. The best showings were at the drive in theaters. But they could only be held in the spring and fall, otherwise there was too much daylight. Pre teens and parents could and did get into them too. Roddy McDowall started a supporting role in the first one, he didn't do the 2nd because his character was hardly in it, but from the third one on it was all about Roddy. There was even a short lived TV series, but the writing was terrible. You could always see Roddy under that mask, and Kim Hunter was beautiful as his wife Zera. The last of the movies, was also the plot of the second modern remake. Andy Cirkis is great at what he does but Roddy played it so well mostly with his eyes and versatile voice.

While I understand the changes in the interest of better storytelling- film and book Faramir are completely different people. Book-Faramir wasn't interested in the ring. I still hate the illtreatment of Gollum which doesn't occur in the book.
