got his whole spine removed without anesthesia and still survived ? dude is truly built different.
I'm going to say he probably DID have anesthesia, but considering that your spinal column is basically the highway of your entire nervous system, the anesthesia could likely only do so much. He would've needed to have been completely comatose to feel nothing. He's honestly insanely lucky to have walked away from that procedure alive, moreso that he wasn't permanently disabled.
@@MrCrunchytime the exact same reaction happens when he gets his lungs replaced so he probably doesn’t have pain killers
@@doubledio3061 yeah,i highly doubt that the Ripper Doc just injects a shot of morphine or any sort of cocktail into David....that would be too much of a relief for poor fella.
You would pass out from the pain of something like that. Theres no (realistic) way that doc could have done these extensive mods without some sort of pain killer/anesthetic.
@@doubledio3061 You do understand that these are not the kind of procedures one can simply power through with grit and badassery, right? The level of trauma is enough that the shock, alone, would be fatal.

Lol post nut clarity 😁😁
Subtle attention to detail from the writers LMAO
That was because he reconsidered and decided to do it, he even thought of & gave an ultimatum if he goes cyberpsycho or die during it, he's taking that implant.
Thinking back to this, thr world of Cyberpunk is a lot more advanced than I gave it credit for. For the entire spine to removed, then have everything that was attached to it, reattached to the Sandevistan is absolutely insane, AND it's being done by a back alley doctor successfully.
yeah I wish there was more detail on that aspect of it. Neither the game nor the lore nor the anime REALLY digs into it. Things just kinda happen. And I understand its hard to do. People don't seem to realize that when David returns all buff, hes a full borg at that point. The entire crew is full borg.
It was removed? I thought he opened his back and it was layered around his spine
@@mylittledarkworldjohn4289 0:53 you can clearly see the spine removed here
IVE BEEN SAYING THIS!!! Back alley doctors who probably didn’t even go to college are casually performing medical procedures literally decades ahead of our most skilled doctors
@@damonedrington3453 because its mostly automated. The lore doesn't really dig into it but you can see some of that when v gets their first implant. These procedures can't be carried out by people. There has to be a machine involved. At this point its become common place in that world so it must be automated atleast mostly.
Just remember he lost his mom and his dignity in the span of 2 days. At this point David is willing to do anything to be a step ahead, he's lost pretty much everything. That's why I find it pretty believable that he'd be willing to put up with this type of pain.

V's been netrunning for how long? By the time David decided to get his first chrome, he was still a teen.
@Manny Trident I was under the impression that this took place in 2076, only a year before V's story.
@Manny Trident visually speaking, cyberware hasn't changed.
@Manny Trident this takes place when v is out of night city for each of the story backgrounds so it's only a few months to a year in the past since Adam and yorinobu are still in nc during edgerunners
Military grade cyberware is the most volatile augmentation in the world of cyberpunk due to it's high risk of getting it's wearer becoming a cyberpsycho, it was at first used as a feature in their boardgame Cyberpunk 2020 to balance the usage of the player avatar from wearing too many cyberware but then removed because its more relatively restricts the player than giving benefits
Well, restrictions must be made. Overclocking yourself is mainly a big issue, especially if your body rejected the cyberwares or augments. Deus Ex is the perfect example. Unlock too much experimental tech and your body rejects an augment forever.

I also loved the last time we saw him, when he basically said, "These will help you out for a bit but it won't stop you from going psycho and diving off the edge and diving into madness." I think by the point we see him, he's seen dozens maybe even hundreds of clients go psycho, but he knew that once somebody starts getting chromed up, there's no stopping them after that. Stuff like this is what I wish we got more of in the game. Edgerunners is a really good bottom-up view of what life in night City is like in terms of merc work and implants but the game is really good at the top-down "What does it mean to be a legend in a city of villains?" angle. Would've loved to have more grounding like we do after getting your first implants in game.

Shit could have been a lot easier if David knew of best ripperdoc Victor
Either him or Doc Robert (Super jacked guy from Kabuki)
They'd probably straight up refuse to implant the thing and Vic seems like the type to sit David down for a spell and have a talk with him, maybe bring in Misty as a emotional support for the kid.
@@neroblack2704 Misty? Nah....David would need some real talk from a real man like Vic. He would just sit David down and tell him most of the stuff that the chrome can do,ESPECIALLY a Sandevistan. Not like Berserker or anything else is better, but Sandevistan is a real bitch to handle....
@@attilakovacs5040 Hey now no disregarding Misty she's nice, plus with David having lost his mom so recently having a nurturing person like Misty close by might help.
Vic is the mvp in this hypothetical scenario though as I agree David would have benefited immensely from Vic's insight and life experience.
Even if David was still set on getting the implant afterwards it would still be a less traumatic procedure if done by Vic and David might be more inclined to go get a thorough check-up to see if things are going well.
@@neroblack2704 im not showing disrespect towards Misty,as i am also a mildly spiritual person who is helping anyone who needs it,but at the moment,Vic would be the MVP in this situation due to his past experiences and he would be gentle with implanting a Sandevistan, even if he is not agreeing with David's opinion about getting chromed with a mil grade shard.

Literally RIPS his spine out
I had spinal correction surgery where I now have two Rods screwed into my spine. The pain after waking up was literally unbearable. Idk how it would of been while I was awake..
In the table game its stated that sandy is a mod that is fitted over the spine and the wires are impeded in the spinal cord. So i think the show took artistic liberties with the operation.
@zanenevada7327 probably that spine was a Parcial (or half of it) one
reading into the cyberpunk lore I think that the sandy is an implant connected to a neural processor as in the bag, it looks much smaller than when implanted, I believe Doc replaced his spine with a neural processor and implanted the sandy into a slot within the processor, though his method was unorthodox to say the least
the sandy in game and in ttg is just a chip that goes in the basw of the cranium, you can get this one in game too but it seems that the one that david got was also attached to a kerenzikov that is the one that goes on the spine
Gosh if you told me that David and Tanjiro had the same voice actor I would not believe you at first
In Brazillian Portugues David has the same voice actor of Tadano from Komi-san. lol
in the latam dub he shares voice with mr pig from adventure time
I remember my first time in the tabletop implanting military grade shit. Character just got done with a fucking shit mission, came into some big eddie haul, but was on the run from some corpo dickweeds. We all went to the ripper to upgrade our shit, and my solo was like 'fuck it, lets do some black market shit.' I got so juiced up on meds it was insane, my humanity shot down like no tomorrow, but my character went from someone who needed to take cover, to someone who could just walk out into the open and start blasting.
Towards the end, militech caught up with us. I went out in a blaze of glory, and suicide bombed myself into the middle of their convoy that was chasing us. Wrist Launchers, Sandevistan, Optics, Heavy Machine Gun, Internal Plating, Heavy Armor, got so bad MaxTac had to get involved to put me down because Trauma couldn't get close enough. Had the whole city locked down long enough for my crew to hit the border, and get out. God, that campaign was so fun. The highs, the lows, the laughs, the rolls, and the tears at the end. I love cyberpunk so much. My character towards the end looked like a fucking Maelstrom Ganger who did nothing but huff anti-physhosis meds like he was breathing air.
Let's try to give this operation some kind of sense (although the limits are reached pretty quickly).
First of all: even if the doc is a ripperdoc, he would have to give David some kind of pain killers, anesthesia and a whole bunch of that on top. Getting cut is not nice, getting cut open is painful and removing someone's bone is excruciating painful. Now I don't know exactly how the mechanical spine works but there are two options: it either acts like a casing of the original spinal cord and gets wrapped around it. Or it is like a complete replacement and the doc had to cut the spinal cord at the brain stem and every other nerv related to it. The last option would be impossible. Even if we give medicine nowadays some 20 years on top and say that the current options that are coming close to that get a development boost, you would still have to find a way of circumventing the problem that David would have been dead for this procedure because if you cut the spinal cord at the base of your neck your body will die (see the common diseases for people after having an accident crushing their spine at some point. The body might not die immediately because the heart will continue to beat and if the brain gets blood through the vessels it will not die as well, but restringing the whole thing is impossible. The spine has some kind of interface at its top but try doing that with every 24 of David's vertabres. It is impossible. The biggest nerves could be reattached but the whole process in terms of possibility is so far at the limits it would rip as easy as Divide nerves.
I love anime.
Its a Parcial replacement, leaving the Medular Spine on
david chode no anesthesia cause he couldnt afford it
This is also a Sci Fi dystopian future. A few decades ago we thought smoking was healthy even recommended to pregnant women. A century ago limbs would be amputated for a simple infection. And a few centuries ago we thought leeches would help fight sickness.
that makes a lot more sense because the sandevistan is shown to not be fully replacing the spinal cord instead just a little bit of it@@nerose274
The bet was that David would return begging him to remove it, but his spine is gone. So he’d just be a vegetable then. Unless the doc got his spine floating in fluid somewhere

According to the Cyberpunk rule book, cyberpsychosis is caused by the brain being unable to process the line between human and machine. This is caused by the brain itself willingly subjecting itself to the removal of human parts for cyber parts.
This means that it is a willing decision that makes it dangerous. If you were in an accident that caused you to lose an arm and went to a doc to help fix you and the doc replaced it with an mantis blade arm without your permission, you are incapable of having any effect of cyberpsychosis as it was not your decision.
In other words, it isn’t the Sandevstan that is the tipping point for David, but his deliberate decision to do so that is his undoing.
If this is what goes down when you visit a Ripperdoc, imagine what fuckin Maelstrom had to go through
Seeing the comments I always thought that he had reinfornced his spine, not getting it straight up removed
As odd as he is, he didn't want to do it at first, you can tell he cares in his own crazy way
I think once the Post-Nut Clarity hit him, he realized David might go look for another Ripperdoc who might just straight up kill him in the surgery table.
So instead he offers the deal: He does it for Free and gets the Sandy for free if David comes back to remove it.
@@peterwhite6415 i completely agree
post nut clarity is wild ngl@@peterwhite6415
@@peterwhite6415No he specifically meant when he dies after going Cyberpsycho, even revealed he knew David was gonna go out that way in the end.
The entire spine wasn’t ripped out, almost 80% was, the nerves are still intact, he was able to still breath so the steak wasn’t affected nor were the nerves
Getting chrome in the game is lot less painful. Edgerunners on the other hand actually shows how painful getting chrome is
Saw this episode yesterday. This scene was so fuckin sick
Having his spine taken out must of hurt like hell
IMO I always saw it that it was less his spine being 100% replaced, and it just being cut laterally, as we only see the silhouette of it. This would allow them to still keep some structure to the nerves and body, but allow the part to fully interact with all the tissues.
Davids Ripperdoc: You ain't gonna find nobody who'll buy that off you.
V's Rippers at lv. 45: You need a militech sande? Sure we've got 2 variants.
What I'd say is maybe it's only half of his spine depth wise, like half of each disc and a sliced section of each rib to 'expose' the spinal nerves and like internal structure of the bones that the sandy then fuses into, the bit that's removed would still look the same from the perspective we're shown so it would act more like an intergration/reinforcement/enhancement rather than a full blown replacement
Thinking about it physiologically, the spine has too many nerves moving out of it for the procedure to be; remove spine -> insert sandy. So the idea that just half the bone portion of the spine was removed to expose the white matter and spinal cord foes make a lot of sense.
I’ve thought this as well. The doc bisected the entire spine, revealing the open nerve endings. The sandy is like a cybernetic top half of the spine sandwich. In reality surgery that opens up the top half of the spine this way leaves scar tissue that makes any movement of flexion of the spine very painful. I’m assuming since we are in 2076/77 there are medical technologies that create a kind of perfect fusion of the hardware / chrome, to the users body. If I had to imagine I’d reckon that the Sandevistan when activated (most likely by the autonomic nervous system, this explains why David’s activates automatically under extreme duress at times like when Maine died, or when he rescues Lucy, or by consciously deciding too which would not be automatic. The activation of the Sandy, from what I can tell accelerates a users reflexes and abilities to superhuman levels. There is also a time dialation effect, others seem to be moving very slow, while the user feels as though they are moving at normal speed. I think the Sandevistan must send some kind of impulse UP into the brain and must have some capacity to “take over” from the brain and bring the user’s consciousness processing into the Sandevistan. The Sandevistan is like a hardware accelerator, it can process information and transmit data at greater speeds than the brain can. When activated the user switches over to using the Sandevistan to make their decisions and behavior. The Sandevistan must need energy, cooling, and software / hardware that makes this all possible, and it’s my guess that extended use of the Sandevistan or multiple triggers in quick succession can break down a users mental requirements to maintain consciousness by some unknown side effect of using the Sandevistan. It might only be a matter of time before the toxic nature of the chrome takes every one of its users lives. It is truly cursed chrome. Those who yield it are unstoppable, but at the cost of mental breakdowns like David’s horrific hallucinations that cause him to murder two innocents accidentally. The culmination of these different events and scenes makes me wonder, has technology already infected us? Are we beyond a point of no return? Will the technology that grants us superhuman powers, ultimately be exactly what kills us? We have no way as mere humans the foresight to see what our decisions ultimately become. By and large humans are too short sighted, but not by any fault of their own. Their too smart for their own good. They march onward towards their destruction ever eager to right the wrongs done to them by a system that oppresses them, and robs them of their love, their humanity, the anger that surges forth to change the circumstances and to fight back is the same thing that saves us at times and other times brings about our destruction. David laughs at his own demise, because the world is cruel, you can fight for all the right reasons, you can try to protect your loved ones, but in the end it all comes apart. In the end it is only, darkness.
It’s blacker than black.
It was really just about the friends we made along the way and the good times we had together. It was about the fun we had and the risk we took. It was about being the best we could be at the time.
The end.
ok you made me read allat just for a "its the friends we made along the way" sincerely go cyber pyshco@@neighbor9672
For those wondering drugs like opium are no longer made in the cyberpunk universe so no morphine or pain killers there are synthetic drugs but theyre too risky to use in a operation like this.
Technically there's still anesthetics that can be used in these types of operations, it's just that David is flat-broke and couldn't afford them; Or Doc is just that much of a prick that he doesn't bother with anesthesia.
@@borderlands10 yeah but the doctor is a black market cybernetic surgen i imagine you need several license's or have someone steal it for you either way it probably costs a months worth of wages for a single dose.
They banned drugs, but not implants or ripping? What the heck?
i dont believe they banned drugs and also normal legally approved rippers do give anesthesia that ripper is a black market one@@auraguard0212
Brooo 😂😂 never realized it was his entire spine that got literally removed while he’s still awake AND a human casually lives thru this and
This scene makes V's first visit to Viktor look like a simple physical, jesus christ.
He should've went to Vic
Gangster up until metal music starts playing while main character going through painful surgery procedures.
Anybody know the song playing when the doc is changing arms and gearing up? Not the one that plays when the actual surgery is happening.
I've been looking for it too, no results in a year
He'd have to be on some sort of anesthesia to even survive his whole spine getting ripped out in this lol.
Hell even with anesthesia he'd die from shock.
I guess in cyberpunk they developed anesthesia to be more effective?
Just trying to think of reasons why david managed to survive a vital part of his body being pulled out.
Because the plot needs him to live, this is straight up anime/cartoon logic, not realism.
While in Cb2077, V gets a sort of anaesthesia, David on the otherhand was probably given lesser the dosage.
Creo que la peor parte es pensar que este tipo opera personas vivas sin quitarse el masturbador...
This is where it's all gone wrong aside from his mother accident.
My biggest gripe with the game was that most of the ripper docs weren’t completely insane like this guy
He shoulda gone to vic
he probably had something done to him to not feel as much pain, because if they did that to anyone irl you'd die irl from shock, and for a few seconds to at least a whole minute wouldn't be able to move at all because all your nerves are connected to your spine.
iirc i remember hearing about how they can resucitate dead with minimal effort and 0 damage. trauma team especially can do it really absurd cases. not that david is insured but still
That fleshlight is doing the work though.
Man was bro rlly "pleasuring" himself
Holy shit it’s monsoon
LIKE A FLOOD OF PAIN
Edge runners animation is the best of 2022 hands down
Jesus. This was brutal
What the hell was that song while ripping his spine out??? Shit was wild asf
Whoa whoa why the fuck was he awake for that? Is there a lore reason for him to not be sedated for this?
Pleaaaase get me the name of that tarck playing in the background
