Reminds me of when Porsche went with the runny egg 996s! Good news is that one of these M4's can be had for cheap in a few years, bad news is no manual so good luck having fun on a trackday.

Everytime I look at the grill, it looks like a Photoshop project gone wrong.
Honestly if they halved the grilled horizontally it'll look really nice, the bottom grill just merge together. Then it'll look like a normal car. Still infinitely better looking
Especially around 12:40 when it suddenly shows the M3 GTS after it...
Most weird car designs like that soon grow on me, but I cant get over this one, it's just horrible

Before I go on watching, I’m going to take a moment and savor the simple elegance and finality of that phrase, “thankfully, we don’t drive on paper”. Henry is made of gold, pure gold.

I'm not a particular BMW Fan, but i have to say all previous M3 generations (that i can think of, maybe i am missing one) had a certain elegance in their outside and interiour style. This generation somehow has lost that in my view.
Always come here for Henry's view above anyone else. On point.

bring back the Hofmeister Kink, and the E46 kidneys!
Yes, I think the removing the kink it’s more annoying than than the front grille. Not saying that the grille is beautiful, cause is most ugly part of the car.
The kink made BMW unique, and then this came, 2 series grand coupe and the god awfully BMW design languages.
At least regular 3 series, 5 and 8 are good looking. Still doesn’t help with the grille

You know this grille has actually grown on me. saw a new one drive past the other day and it looked pretty good... Give it a few years when we're used to seeing it and I'm sure it'll be loved just as much as previous generations
I think it's hideous and I don't think I'll ever warm to it 😂
It’s only acceptable in black, lower if a bit and use spacers to delete wheel gap and it’s not bad.

This design works really good as a friendship filter, if someone say they dont like the M3 because of the grill, you know he's not a car guy so you can just stay away.

Against all odds, I think I’ve just fallen in love with this car too. I thought I was going to hate it but, it has so much character and charisma. The engine sounds fantastic through the video. I love what I’m hearing. It sounds snarly and angry. From what Henry said, it seems like it has got some of that M balance back and they’re still making a manual.
Great review as always. The F-series fronts were so gorgeous in my view that this is a terrible let down. Its not just the grill, its the 1-series shape headlights as well.

The grill looks far better on the M models than the standard cars.

Sometimes companies have to learn lessons the hard way. Years from now when they abandon this overall design people will say, WTF were they thinking??

I think people will love this M4 in 30 years...it would be one of the last great IC cars.Front grill isnt a beauty but it is distinctive and that is also important.

@@anydaynow01 GT3 has 500hp, ZL1 and GT350 has 650 and 550 respectively. They have extra HP to get extra speed on the straights coz they suck at corners.
While I know I’ll get used to the front end, the simplicity of older BMWs make them timeless in a way that I don’t think this one will be. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just so clearly done as a marketing ploy to out-do the competition in “boldness” and “presence” rather than for beauty’s sake.
Yeah but wait until they perfect it. A facelift will clean it up and make it looks amazing. In person I think it looks great

The price of the f80 will go up
If the F80 price goes up (which i agree with you, it definitely will), the E92 and E46 will reach Mars by the end of this week. Why? Why the front grille? Why is the only option an auto? Has BMW absolutely lost it?

Neither, last m3 for me was a e92 and thankfully I'm old and still have my E46 M3 and 2 air cooled 911s...all manuals. But your reviews are in the top 3

@@MrPTManning Just added a M2 Comp with a Carbahn tune from Steve Dinan, had to add BBS wheels and 295 section rears to control the wheels from spinning @80. Scary Fast

Owning a BMW e30 in red, fully restored to brand new, I can't like this car even for its beautiful driving characteristics that Henry described. The direction BMW with its styling is the wrong one. If people truly hate it, don't buy it. Vote with your wallet. A car is as much about its driving as it looks. Especially as a road car. This car looks like a blast to drive but I think anyone looking to buy an M car will go for any other version besides this one. For me personally, I would buy the beautiful F80, a timeless design. The G82 and G80, not so much... This will be a forgotten M car.

No m car is forgotten. And this one also will not be.
They called the E39 M5 fat, the E36 M3 underpowered. But now they are seen as pure driving machines. This lot will be as well.
I even would like to say that I like the grill. Nice homage to 30's styling with long kidneys, and it has presence, aggressiveness to it. What I do not like is - also with the new 8 - is the C pillar. With the kink is just too subtle and the whole C pillar is make the car look fat and bloated. The M3 does not have this problem at all hence it's the better design IMO.
Don’t let a silly grill destroy the car. You could always go to the aftermarket

Prior Design has a few good concepts. They will release a bodykit with a new front bumper.
The front is terrible. The side is.... generic. Back is pretty nice.

For some reason I think Mercedes are going to go "hold my beer" and butcher the C63 with a turbo 4 and popcorn exhaust, then the M3 will look amazing :D (hopefully not)
I cancelled my order on one, manual M3 in green, maybe I should make a new order again. The weight is just scary and I feel depreciation might be a player in a few months.
You are better off with a 4.0 GTS maybe
Wait until the grille fixing bodykits are available.
Better off buying an electric car.
The depreciation on this one will be mighty considering the initial price. Nothing special about it and plenty to go wrong.

Another great review Henry. Am very much looking forward to the touring as its been a long time coming and I think Alpina have just got the jump on them at the moment. Would definitely love one of these though it's like a BMW mustang and I think will become a classic very fast!

The price of this car is getting real close to a 992 Carrera S. Looks aside, the M4 is probably an awesome car, but I know I'd rather have a 911 if they are priced similarly.
excuse me? A 992 s STARTS at $115,000 with no options. that's $50,000 for "real close". Maybe a cayman, even that is a stretch.

No way man. The 992 is well over 100k. That said I would pick a Cayman GTS 4.0 manual over either.

The looks are a deal breaker for me, M3 slightly easier on the eye.
