This girl group is out of sight I've always loved the Chantels!!!! We can never forget this music because it's a blast from the past but it is still the best ever!!
My Pops showed me this great music too. When I was a baby and would be sick, I remember being in my onsie pajamas and my dad would dance me to sleep to this great music. 👶 😴 💞🎶
The Chantels from the 1950's till 4ever will always my favorite female group when I want to practice my singing I would do the lead and background with the chantels
This 67 year old grandpa has great memories seeing them perform live at the Montebello Ballroom back in the day where many fine young ladies liked and wanted to slow dance. At age 16 back in '71, my mind and body was always geared for that style of dancing, especially those with a fit body that snugged up well against my 5'-10" 160 pound body. Those slow dancing songs, otherwise known as oldies but goodies, were pretty much real music of the past that may never be part of today's junk music/noise of hip hop or other song lyrics made for auto tune.
Just heard this song again on “Call the Midwife”…bringing back so many memories. I was only in 1st grade when this came out but it must have been played often in my household because I remember most of the lyrics. Such a fabulous song👍🏼 Those were the days⭐️⭐️⭐️
I came here for that reason! I heard the song but didn't recognize it (I was 2 or 3 when it came out) but I thought the lead singer sounded like the Chantels on "Maybe" so I thought I'd try every Chantels song on CZcams and this was the first I tried. Bingo! Lol
I feel you my mama tell me she worked in a place called the team post and people get together to play pool in this building soda pop snacks music Good times back in the '50s and 60s and she but I was listening to the Chantels that's why I listen to it as well remind me of her
I am a old school Low Rider , Friday and Saturday cruising Whittier Blvd in my 1965 Chevy Impala lifted front and back. I totally miss back in the day.
bob kill I listened to this song when it first came out (in my early teens) and still enjoying it now at 77yrs 😊. Great then and now! Glad you appreciate and enjoy the great music of my day!
This song reminds me of my cousins passed away four years ago she loved the Santo every time I hear this song it reminds me of her it's a good feeling in my

It was "Eileen", in my 8th grade graduating class....we danced, I swear my hands felt like an electric shock took place! She was so sweet and beautiful....but it was a passing fancy....but oh gawd it seemed so real....
The Channels seems to be my top girl group.. There was so many after these girls in 1958.. It work for them with their 1st record as "Maybe" to many others followed. This group had some amazing songs.. Have a great Sunday.. 3/1/15
how is this for a coincidence: OUR 1ST KISS ON HER L/ROOM COUCH ALMOST KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF. NEVER B4 HAD THIS MAGIC REACTION EVER HAPPENED. ABOUT "3" YRS.LATER WE MARRIED. HER NAME: " EILEEN".
Of the couple of girl groups b4 them & the many who were directly & indirectly inspired by them later, The Chantels still rule, especially with Arlene Smith's urgent heart pounding voice!
Baby-Baby- baby - baby,,,,, If you were mine.. ))) I believe this is the best version.. for sure.... If The chantels sings it... It will be # 1... What a slow dance for sure... .
I still love this song reminds me going to grandmas and playing my uncle Georges records my dad used to listen to oldies my dad used to sing really good and play guitar . As a kid I was fascinated with all music my mom would sing a lot I used to love hearing both parents sing and dance mom thought me so many old dance moves. This song very special to me as a adult still tear up
Its said that despite all the success of the early 60s girl groups like The Supremes, Vandellas, Marvelettes, Chiffons, Crystals and such that Arlene Smith (and the Chantels) were the best to ever do it. They were the trailblazers, knocking down doors for the others.
Well, I loved the Chantel and I will say that they were in the top three that is the Shirelles and the Marvelettes. However, the Shirelles was admitted the to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What a time period that was!!!!
@@OluwasolaIfasade Yes. The ones at the forefront (the originators) would be The Chantels, The SHirelles and The Marvelettes and a few others who never quite had the BIG HIT to put them over the top.
in love with this era. this song makes me want to swoop my hair, put on an a-line dress and make milkshakes for my friends, and also invite a cute boy named johnny to the shindig so we can dance to these classic gems....because he's dreamy *_*
Thanks Billy for the correct info, you must be from NY or just know your stuff about the music and the artists. We need people like you to keep the history alive.
Hey Monica - The Chantels are from The Bronx, not Brooklyn. St. Augustine's parish. Their name came from another Bronx parish - Our Lady of De Chantel where Arlene Smith had a basketball game and loved the church name. "The Plea" was an original by them and was covered by The Jesters - a Brooklyn group.
What a awesome girl group, my favor with Arlene Smiths fabulous voice. She made that group , voice was crisp and beautiful. Thanks for posting, gotta find my 45rpm.
A lot of people seem to forget that half way thru their success Arlene left, then the great voice of Annette Smith(no relation to Arlene) with her great voice on the big hit Look In My Eyes. Kudos to Annette Smith many people couldn't tell the difference.
Arlene wanted to go solo, Arlene and Annette never sang together. when Arlene left Annette came in the group the new Chantels ?? hit big with Look In my Eyes, Well I Told You (answer record to Hit The Road Jack)

Good song worth dying to.
John Smith I’m so glad you were able to come down from Heaven long enough to share this with us.

Not sure why cause she loved the group
Annette is good but not Arlene
and they sound just like their records they brought the house down.
“ Sang Your Song Ladies , back then and “ For Show “ Today, A Golden Classic.
Really great girl group, this is the first time I have heard them, I am from that time, how come I never heard them?? Brilliant.
One of my favorite oldies right here!
