    For 12x11/2 you show it to be equal to 132/2 = 66. You are correct of course, but as it's easier to cancel the common factor of two first, it might have been instructive to some of the students to show that.

    Is there a term for summing a series of numbers in a manner like factorial? Such as 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 28 I think the general formula for this would be n(n +1)/2 It seems like such a term could have a use a term like "7 summtorial" rather than use sigma .

  • @goldeer7129
    @goldeer7129 Před 2 lety +1

    Don't do (12×11) / 2 = 132/2 !
    Instead cancel the 2 with the 12 (because 12 = 6×2)
    (12×11) / 2 = 6×11 = 66
    Easy, and you can cancel lots of stuff like that (it's really lacking for a video like that about factorials..).
    Have a few ones :
    7! / 5! · 2!
    14! / 10! · 4!
    20! / 17! · 3!
    15! / 9! · 6!
    They can ALL be done in your head... (check answers for hints and solutions)

    • @goldeer7129
      @goldeer7129 Před 2 lety

      Make sure to :
      - Cancel a maximum
      - Cancel smartly
      - Know multiplication by 11, and maybe basic stuff for like 29x30
      1. Easy, 7*6 / 2
      Cancel '2' with '6' to get '3'
      7*3 = 21
      2. 14*13*12*11 / 4*3*2
      Cancel '4*3' with '12', cancel '2' with '14' to get 7
      7*13*11,
      7*13 = 91,
      91 * 11 = 1001
      3. 20*19*18 / 3*2
      Cancel '3*2' with '18' to get '3'
      20*19*3 = (20*19) * 3 = 3980 * 3 = 3 * (4000 - 20) = 12,000 - 60 = 11940
      4. 15*14*13*12*11*10 / 6*5*4*3*2
      Cancel '5*3' with '15', Cancel '2' with '14' to get '7', Cancel '6*4 = 6*2*2' with '12', and keep the 2 on the bottom, Cancel '2' with '10' to get '5'
      7*13 * 11 * 5 = 91*11 * 5 = 1001 * 5 = 5005
      Tell me if better solutions or stuff (also yeah I decided to trade PEMDAS for clarity)
