The umpire ruled that a small part of the ball had touched the white line but Murray was adamant it did not. The decision gave Fabio Fognini a point to hold serve and lead 5-3 in the first set. Murray ultimately lost in three sets to the home favourite.

Why they still don't use hawkeye is beyond me.
The claim has been that the umpire can get out of the chair and look at the mark in the clay.
The greatest counterargument that I've seen to that claim is all the times I've seen players arguing with the umpire about which mark to look at.
maybe a cost issue as well??
hawkeye doesnt really work on clay like it does on other surfaces, the clay makes it harder for a correct read so they say its not 100% trustworthy
@@zuziiiiiiiiii But why? Hawkeye calculates where the ball will land before it even does, so I can't see why clay changes the accuracy.
@@zuziiiiiiiiii while Hawkeye might be the only system that automatically makes calls (I say might because I haven't checked) there are other systems that can at least be used for challenges.
So the ball was out !
😂
Dam an experienced umpire making a call like this… shameful
Everyone makes mistakes,he is human, just shut up
Hawk eye and challenge in every surface,,,
How can the Umpire call it IN even tho the mark was clearly out, it's beyonde me
this is one of if not the most respected ump in ATP tennis too XD
The way they show the electronic replay on TV and everyone at home immediately sees how off the umpire is. You'd think the umpires would want this taken out of their hands to avoid the shame.
AND ANDY WAS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT
Andy Murray would only argue if he truly believed he was right, the guy has the most integrity on the ATP tour. Funny how his opponent is also Italian.
Hawkeye showed clearly, so! Still, there are people booing which is even worse!
And that was the exact moment Andy Murray lost all respect for Tsitsipas.
This makes no sense, the replay shows that its out, why argue about it rather than looking at the clear evidence that shows its out???
Big momentum change if this was correctly called Murray would have gone on to win the Rome masters without dropping a single point
You'd love to see it
Why a master series tournament does not have the Hawke's eye technology?????????????????
It's on clay, they don't use hawkeye for official calls, but it is there and said the ball was out...
@@tijgertjekonijnwordopgegeten Hawk-Eye Innovations has stated their system works just fine on clay. This is stubbornness from some of these clay court tournaments.
@@MichaelWalker-wu2pq That is what I was suspecting.
And it was at that point that Andy Murray realized it was time to retire from tennis and dedicate his remaining days to his true passion - pickle ball.
Your comments are memes, no I see
Yeah when I saw this live I couldn't quite understand the umpires point of view, the ball came at a trajectory where his claim that it skidded off the line which caused separation was all but impossible, and his major point of "I saw it and the line judge saw it the same" is just asinine, I mean maybe on hard court that runs but on clay the whole reason there isn't hawkeye is because of the mark, if you're going to base it off what you see from the umpire chair then you're basically treating it exactly like hard court just without hawkeye, marks are there for a reason and any logical person would have awarded Murray the point, now would it have flipped the match around? who knows, but I think this just adds to the spreadsheet of reasons all clay tennis needs hawkeye, like Madrid.
It wasn't impossible at all. The ball came cross court. It could have just barely touched the line. Remember, the chair has to be positive before over-ruling the line judge. If it could go either way, he must stick with the judge.
that ball was out lol
Happened again today with Djokovic's ball wrongly called in and Rune even referenced this match. I've always respected Lahyani and ofc umpires can make human mistakes too, but twice in the same tournament ain't a great look
Since the whole Kyrgios "pep talk" debacle, Lahyani has lost credibility.
And this was the moment Andy Murray decided the umpire was adopted and could never overcome the feeling of abandonment, with no true father to guide him, so Andy forgave him and went directly to the pagoda to pray for his well being.
What?
clearly out...where's HAWKEYE ?
I don't get it, for some stuff they use computers, no? Why not all the time
the last thing he was ....guess....yes furious
It was out
The most amazing thing in all of this is that Andy Murray actually shaved.
How come the hawkeye people are not in communication with the umpire, soccer does it now, watching replay video to judge better....
Hawk-Eye Innovations is in contact with the major clay and grass court tennis organizers. They have refused based on superficial grounds of "tradition". Here in the United States and North America, the USTA has wholeheartedly embraced their technology and it's resulted in players loving the system and none of these disputes.
The umpire is wrong, but most likely fed up with Murrays constant complaining throughout the match.
This is not why he lost the match. It cannot be. Otherwise...
is he fired after that?
The ball was out. That’s all
Always layahni is like this moment
Guess they need to use Hawkeye for clay, too.
See it was me. I be ragin that was out chair umpire is wrong. I can see it that ball was differently out that Andy was right 💪🏻🎾 that should his point
Yikes, do I smell some cheating?
Blind Layhani.
Позорники, да введите уж везде hawk eye, даже на грунтовых турнирах. К чему вам это позорище? У профессиональных спортсменов как правило развито такое чутьё, что они чувствуют даже миллиметровые попадания/ауты.
😅😅
Momentum change over this 1 point. Murray would have gone on to win the first 2 straight sets
lol... no. Your assessment of the match is off by about 1000%.
@@OmegaMouse your stats are out by something between 900 and 1000
This guy hasn’t retired yet?
And this was the exact moment Andy Murray decided to become a better tennis player. In the future he vowed one point would never again affect him so much that he would forfeit his epic run up to the final and ultimate championship.
This was last week
Do away with Dirt Tennis, not necessary. 3rd World Tennis. That's a perfect example of why.
1. I don't see what the 3rd world has to do with this
2. I don't see how this is an example of anything other than the fallibility of human umpiring
3. They miss calls on every surface, not just this one
@@papigringo5692 you don't see? open your eyes, glad I could help.
@@keithlauderjr1691 Wow, you're pretty proud of that comeback. I don't see why...
@@papigringo5692 you don't see? Open your eyes, glad I could help. 😂😂😂
Murray is always having problems with everyone whenever he is losing
I mean, he was literally correct...
should have challanged it see on the screen, very bad call.
There is no challenge system on clay
@@bobanmihajlov338 There is. They used it in Madrid. It's just not in Rome.
On Madrid, its on some courts, not on all
