You could do with a rain cap on that exhaust now its in "vertical-boy-racer" mode ;)
one of those little flappy jobbies like on the tractor trailer rigs!
an old coffee can to quick fix it 4 the moment...
this was my first thought!
Will it have enough pressure to open it, it's only a wee 10hp
Kris, you are a genius. It’s so impressive how you can teach yourself to build just about anything. Congratulations on another fine job!
I said this a long time ago! This guy can make ANYTHING! He is a true genius!
Kris, you might like to fit a flapper onto the exhaust to keep out the rain, or maybe just stick a bean tin on top. Works on tractors. Oh and that is a great bit of kit you've built yourself. Very well done, it looks the business.
I was thinking he should make that exhaust pipe reach higher. A flexible ventilation pipe would do. Standing beside that exhaust wont be fun the day the wind comes from the wrong direction and you have to turn the mill around to avoid the fumes. And a flapper or can on top is a good idea.
Flapper on top and a small drain hole at the bottom
Hey Kris. I've been running a Norwood band mill for almost 20 years, and it is very similar to what you've built there. Great job, by the way! I would recommend that you weld on a push handle for yourself to push the carriage while milling, and put the throttle on that handle as well. Excited to see it in action.
Thanks for the tips. Looks like you have some cool videos. i will be checking them out.

A round bar for a handle with a spring loaded motorcycle throttle would probably work great and being spring loaded it will idle unless your hand is on the throttle might add an extra level of safety for the commenters you were telling the cat about. 😉
Might want to tack a little angled cap on that exhaust pipe so the rain doesn't fill it up.
Kris, it has been a real treat watching this come together. Thank you. Excellent job. Can't wait for the first cut.
I like how you don't have music on you videos and we can hear all the wildlife and the cock calling in the background! Hope the ladies are doing well. Hopefully we can get an update on them and the garden as it springs into life! Keep up the good work Kris
You need a flag on top of your fort, this place is looking better with every build, awsum job Kris
Hurray! What an achievement. Makes the weekend start with a buzz. Thx.
If you get a 4 inch paint roller and use covers with the least nap you can find (not foam ones) do this: thin down the oil based paint a little and paint metal with that. You will get “factory finish” results, trust me. I used to refurbish vending machines this way and they came out great. With a 4 inch roller it’s easy to get into the nooks and crannies. All the best. Try it, you will be surprised.👍
Awesome job ! A nice brass hat on that exhaust pipe would set it off a treat mate 😉
Kris the man that can !
Hello. From the States. One tip that may help you save Gas and electric , would be to stitch weld. Make a series of 25mm welds about 50mm apart. It will hold just as well and save time and material. I have welded for over 30 years. I hope this may help you. Liked, shared. All my best.
Between the wagtails and robins you had a nice backing track
This will save you so much time in milling logs to lumber.
Really impressive your motivation and creative is inspiring. It’s selfish but I kinda want a windmill vid!
I am in the process of working my way through your videos and would like to echo J S’s comment “ you are a genius.
I like the sound effects for the key start 😄
Great work, man! Inspiring!
Next video cant get here fast enough! Cant wait to see this beautiful beast in action.
I alway think I'm reasonably clever until I watch your videos 😂 fair play mate 👍🏼
You need a rain cover on the exhaust pipe.
An empty metal can would do the trick. Put it on once you are finished using the mill.
I can't wait to see that thing slab some logs! Bravo on a job well done!
well done Kris you truly are a craftsman and such an inspiration. Never listen to any critics
Another outstanding project done! You'll cut a fortune in lumber with that beauty in the years to come. Great work, Kris!
Its just soo pleasing to see you benefiting and using that workshop for all kinds of things. All those "nice little job done" has just avalanched at this point and made every job or issue you have from this point is now "carried on the shoulders of giants" ....only. Its just you! (and Dot. let give credit where its due)
Building stone apon stone was something my father said often. And Kris you do exactly that!
Hardest working man ever super well done I'd love to play with that lol but cant wait to see it finally working but I dislike cliffhangers🤣top lad Kris
Now that’s impressive... can’t wait to see it in action !!
Thanks for great videos on how to build the sawmill! Really impressive! Hope you have a good weekend!
Wow! Sweet. Can’t wait to see you cut your own lumber.
Farmer/Builder Kris...his work never ends 👍 🎥 🏆🏆🏆
What a tease! Lol i just wanna see it in action and I thought wed see you rip a board today. Dang, now i can't wait for the next one.
So cool that you have enough solar power to run the welder👍👍
Along with all the knowledge you impart and bit of your life and projects you share with us equally important to me is getting to hear the birds as well. It makes my heart happy.
Great job
200 people beat me to the exhaust advice
I tell you , it’s a giant Meccano set for a genius. Fabulous job 🎊🎉
Not sure if anyone has commented on this but I would put a tractor flap on that exhaust so you don't get any water intake
Not yet they haven't - but they will, many many times in the future.....!!!
....... and they did..!!
you got some skills kid!!! lol very impressive!! you are blessed.... I love your determination and creativity!! keep up the great work!!!
Love it!!! Kick ass man. Would love to spend the day sawing with that mill. Nothing better than homemade.
Looks great Kris! Can't wait to see you cut some wood!
Great stuff! Now get it Craigs old place and plank up that oak 50 50 split!
Amazing job Kris, very impressive. Can't wait to see the projects you're going to tackle now!
Thanks Kris you’re awesome!👍👍👍👏👏💯💯💯
Wow! That is just so awesome. Ut looks great. So professional. All the little detail considered and designed in. Can't wait to see it cutting boards. Legend.
Great job! I am looking forward to see it working!
Good job on the guarding, seen many bespoke jobs that were let down by a lack of or poor guards. Really impressed with your band saw.
That mill is built like a tank.. Awesome work. That mill will perform like a completely different animal after its broke in and you get the RPMs up. I think the sawmill trailer i built is around 23 feet from bow to stern light... every time i move it i drop a string line down my rails to ensure a strait shot with the sled. Being that your angle iron (rails) are different you might drag a line down your log beds then adjust. Fast an easy... I usually mill up say 4 logs then add the drops (slabs) of similar sizes 6 at a time if possible standing up on the mill and debark them with a quick pass. All that 1xs add up fast
Looks medieval and badass! Only thing missing is heavy metal playing as you cut wood!
Kris you are a legend mate keep up the excellent work
Really enjoyed your video. Heavy duty Awesome! Keep the videos coming. 🇨🇦Cheers!
2" exhaust and some orange stripes plus a wind deflector and you'd added at least 10 Horsepower.
It is Professional brother,,,,,,piecing in an welding is much more pleasing to the eye than them bent mass produced junk,,,,,btw ya gotta name that bad boy,
nice one Kris, once again determination and ingenuity wins the day. Cant wait to see it in action,
Looks great. I suggest that you relocate the water drip to the outside of the blade guide so that it doesn't eat into your cutting width. It looks as though the blueing on the guide rollers hasn't held up. You'd probably have better results by heating them and quenching in oil.
I heard another CZcamsr say that to film welding can damage your camera. I don't have any other evidence besides his word but it might be worth looking into. I'd hate to miss out on your videos because your camera went blind, lol. Huge fan your work and your approach to life. Thanks for sharing with us!
Hi 👋🏻 Kris.,is there nothing you can’t do 👍🏻 Looking 👀 Fantastic that saw mill and safe to lol 😆
No problems Kris, only solutions.
Kris I remember the day's before all of this and you was living in a tent while you were building your roundhouse for yourself and your then girlfriend and you telling us all how you had worked upon building site's etc.
Now looking at what you've achieved over the past few years its pretty astonishing as most of it was done with very little or no help whatsoever!!!
You would never believe that you don't have a background in engineering !!! Thinking about it honestly engineering should have been your job as your pretty damn good at it.!!!
The woodmill is going to need a name....how about Dorothy's Demon 😈!!!
When you start upon your journey to build your forever home with Dotty this mill is going to save you a bloody fortune so well done on thinking ahead 👏 😀
As always buddy 💯% 👍🇬🇧.
Swedish Logosol costs an arm and a leg, and looks about the same.
I actually recon your design way outperforms the Logosol.
Looking forward to seeing it in action. Should the problems arise, I'm sure you will handle them swiftly anyway. It's a prototype in development phase after all.
I have to say I'm well impressed with your design genius ideas and engineering skills.
Great Kris... you must be really excited!
thanks for a great video. I can't wait to see the sawdust flying. I think that cutting your own lumber would be my dream come true. Thanks for sharing.
Most Excellent and Inspiring! Keep up the great work!
That's amazing. My some is 41 and he's like you . Builds things and keeps things in good working order.
Turned out great Kris. Now you can get back to work on the greenhouse so it can be used this spring.
Congratulations on your perseverance on this project Kris.
As you do more and more, it's great to see you tackling more complex projects.
honestly cant wait to see you start on the main house!
Great job Chris , maybe put some small roller type wheels on the end so it will roll over until trailer wheels are on even ground? Otherwise I am thinking about building my own cause of your successful build!👍🏼😉
There are loads of DIY sheet metal bender videos made from scrap. You could knock one up in a morning.
Amazing, beyond anything Id even attempt well done, nothing (fingers crossed) to stop you now
Time for a mug a tea! Thanks Kris! Looking forward to this. The birds are going berserk there!
Loved watching the build, you just need a flapper valve on the exhaust. Mainly for when you duck in out of the rain.
Great work! Maybe a support bracket on that extended exhaust pipe Kris. With the Diesel there is plenty of vibration, will likely stress crack without support.
Very clever chap, well done.
Really nice piece of work Kris!
Kris, put an empty bean / soup can over the exhausted to keep the weather out when not in use. Enjoyed watching the build.
Its been such a journey for me to watch not only the transformation of your property Kris, but also the transformation of you as a man. From a short haired young man with new bluejeans in a tent to a long haired , well worn flannel and jeans man. Your drive and energy inspires me. I dont even know you and I am so proud of you. God bless.
you've inspired me to build a mill when i get offgrid later this year in portugal, keep up the great videos! been following since you started the hydro
You are an inspiration, Kris. I love watching someone self-educated and can pick up any of the trades like you were trained from birth. Please keep thinking of different projects to keep us wannabees entertained. Be safe Kris.
Hi Kris, great job of building a sawmill, good luck with the first test cuts.
fair play to ypu that is some machine you made there cant wait to see you try it out !!!!!!!!
Good machine and good kitty
Amazing job! Thank you for letting me watch!
Excellent work Kris.
Hope you put a gasket between the steel and aluminium to prevent bimetallic corrosion.
I'm not sure why you need a guard. I've watched other people use them and all they really accomplish is trapping sawdust behind it and binding up the machine. Love your content -Grats on a great job.
That's just fricking amazing! Congrats!
Thanks Kris! Great video :D
That machine is one of the best homemade projects I've seen, precise
Amazing planning and great work
If every we were to have the end of the world and i was 40 years younger i would want to hang with you Kris, you are so talented.
What an engineer you are!!!!
This man is in the genius bracket ...well done .
Amazing, I have to wait to watch this bad boy very excited to watch!
Thing looks awesome!!! Now I wanna make one
Bolt a couple of pieces of wood to the back corners as skid blocks then in future you can just plough on without worrying. Little things like that will make it really useable, but then maybe you never plan to move it much. Next up, a shed for it and a log deck....we don't ask much.
Very nice job Kris! Look forward to seeing you make some lumber.
Thank you for sharing!
Kris Oi Mate! Great video n great to see it's done!!!
Excellent mate thanks for the video
Loving it to the max Kris, what an achievement , well done!
I love watching your brain go through it logical, start to finish process. Great build!
NOTE: drill small hole in bottome of added eshust pipe to drain water !!!
im always happy either way my friend
One of my tricks is a second valve (a quick one, like a ball valve) inline with the needle valve. Lets you get a nice steady water feed setting and just flip it on and off without overthinking things. There's so much to pay attention to when running a mill that anything that makes it easier is worth it (at least in my experience).
Side note, it's crazy easy to put a 12v solenoid valve inline and wire it to a future power feed too. No more accidentally leaving the water on/forgetting to turn the water on.
What a great job. Well done, Kris.
Huge effort. Great achievement.
