    Damn, I hoped that you like this one. Freddie in the bridge is just soooooo good. I really love the chorus and the whole vibe of the song. My favourite track on the album, since I never was into Crazy Little Thing Called Love, tho. I guess you will like SAVE ME tho.

    Well, Justin, you are not easy to please. I wonder which your favorite band is that passed that high bar of yours.
    In fact, this song is about the miscarriage that occured before Brian's birth. This puts the song into perspective.
    I hoped that you would at least appreciate the outro which gives you that tragic but beautiful vibes.

      I don't think context is that important here.. a song is a song... and the high bar is obvious... Sheer Heart Attack through to Jazz... unbeatable...

    I've enjoyed your musical tour of the Queen catalog and do hope you continue through their later albums. While I may not always agree with your takes on certain songs I still respect the opinion. Songs are always open to interpretation and can speak to people in vastly different ways. I do think that the listening experience, especially with Queen albums, sometimes can be better appreciated through the context of the time they were released. To me the earlier Queen albums had more sense of adventure and soundscape (progressive and fantastical if you will) which fit in more with the albums of Led Zeppelin, the Who, Kansas, Styx etc. As the 70's progressed so too did the soundscape with punk, disco and new wave being introduced. Queen started to deconstruct their sound to try to reflect some of these changes (News of the World was the beginning of the stripping of sound, Jazz introduced a tighter drum sound and synth drums, the Game introduced synths along with a sparse production, and Hot Space half of which tried to tap into funk/disco and the other half was more like the Game from a production perspective).
    It's all a musical journey that evokes emotions and memories inherent to the listener. I look forward to more of your reactions.

  • @j0hnf_uk
    @j0hnf_uk Před 5 měsíci +3

    I'm kind of surprised but not surprised you didn't think too much about this one. Brian May's contribution tended to be fairly consistent through the 70's and into the 80's. And this one was not all that dissimilar to tracks like, 'Long Away', and, 'Leaving Home Ain't Easy', to my ears, at least. There's a certain emotional undertone behind these songs that Brian tries to convey. Maybe that's why. I don't know. Not that it matters too much in the grand scheme of things, and we certainly can't all like the same songs. In regard to the following song; I suspect it's going to be another miss, as far as you're concerned. But then again, we won't know until we get there. I'd like to hope the last song on the album won't disappoint, though.

    Justin, thanks for your reactions! I respect you and I partially agree. For me, just for Crazy Little Thing, The Game, ABTD and Save Me the album is worth it.
    I disagree about Dragon Attack. Simple but effective structure to be heard live, with Freddie moving around the stage like a panther. I love the Milton Keynes and Montreal versions because of their energy and vibe.

    I love this song, I think it is tempered back by Freddie and John wanting to go another direction than Rock with this album. Lyrically I don't really get it but vocally and instrumentally I really love this song. My guess is you won't.

    I don't think there is a truly bad song on this album, I think you just don't like this kind of stuff, which is ok. There is a lot of genuine music ideas here like there was before, but they are just clothed and served differently. I have no doubt that this is a good album and that it complements their catalogue well. Also, I hope you will continue your journey, despite everything ! :) Cheers !

      @Owlstretchingtime78 I'm 63 and own and still have tons of albums from the 70's and early 80's. I knew all of Queens hits but only own A Night At The Opera which to me is nearly perfect. Throughout this journey I have realized Queen had a great catalog of music before and just after A Night At The Opera but News Of The World was good but slightly worse but this one really doesn't hold up. Big hits and mostly crap in my opinion...

    It's a nice song, but nothing more than that really. I'd have loved it if the end part went into a whole other section rather than just fading out. It could have saved it. I don't think you'll like Coming Soon but I think you'll enjoy Save Me. It's more of a proper Queen song, much like Play The Game.

    This is kind of an odd song, I thought, the first time I heard it. Brothers don't usually sing about their sisters. I found out later that Brian was an only child and apparently felt that he missed out on something important. I was surprised to hear that Guns N Roses covered it! I really like the music behind it and the idea that Brian was willing to get so personal with this song.

    I think this is one of the better songs on the album, though the bar is not high. I know this is a personal lyric of Brian’s but I think it would be a better song with Freddie singing the lead vocal. Brian seems to be straining in some places, especially in the chorus. I’ll bet there’s a version with Freddie singing lead in the archives, just like with All Dead All Dead and Too Much Love Will Kill You. On a related note, there are no other songs on the remainder of Queen’s albums released during Freddie’s lifetime where Brian or Roger independently sing the lead vocal.

    This one hasn't aged as well as I hoped. It's an unremarkable ballad, no better or worse than Spread Your Wings from the previous album. This is the same person who wrote White Queen some half-dozen years earlier, so this seems like a regression.

  • @maciejkowalski2759
    @maciejkowalski2759 Před 5 měsíci +1

    I always thought it's one of Brian's better songs (among those that he sang), always liked it much much more than "Leaving Home Ain't Easy" which was on the previous album, and you liked that one. So I'm a bit disappointed that it didn't click with you. Maybe you're just not in the right mood after previous songs have ruined the album for you....
    The next song, "Coming Soon" is probably the worst song on the album lol, so if you're gonna say anything positive about it, it will only be a pleasant surprise. 😅

    I try not to compare albums from one to another because if you check out the 60s going into 70s you feel like the music is progressing wonderfully the 80s I felt got a little more commercial instead of artistically previous 2 eras there was some that still stuck to art of music rush ,Iron Maiden etc… times change people & music change because there is no way your going to tell me rap is artistic.

    Not bad but forgettable, and the lyrics are poor. I find it so weird, how Queen insisted on doing what The Beatles did: let everyone write and sing on the albums. But The Beatles had two guys who could sing as well as Freddie, and George was way better than Brian. Even Ringo had more personality than Roger. Freddie was Queen's super power, and it's always baffling when they decided to not use him.
