    People try to diminish Pep by saying he’s always been at the top clubs. The critics fail to realize he’s earned it. It makes no logical sense for him to win a treble and 2 UCL’s at Barca and downgrade to manage a mid table team. To be at the top level his whole career and never be sacked should be applauded.

    The reason Guardiola has never coached small teams is because he was so extraordinarily good from his first job that he made top club immediately. And he's never been sacked since.
    Actually, he did coach a small team. His very first job was Barcelona B. A struggling team of teenagers that had dropped to Spain's third division. Pep took that team, brought his discipline and his tactical knowledge and promoted them to the second division as champions.
    His work that season was so good that Barcelona president decided to make his First team coach the following season, handing a 37 year old a team full of stars like Ronaldinho, Messi, Etoo, Deco, Yaya Toure, and more top players.
    The rest is history.

    In my mind, he is the greatest because of his influence on the teams around him. I remember one of the biggest criticisms against him was that his brand of football doesn’t work in England, but Pep forced the premier league into playing his style of football instead of the other way around. Also, doesn’t hurt that he is one of the most decorated managers out there. This year has really solidified him as number 1 for me

    Jose Mourinho on the other hand is the highest spending manager in Premier League history atleast till this time of writing, he's been in English football for atleast 10 seasons in total and won 12 trophies in total, making it 12 trophies in 10 seasons in Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs.
    Pep has spent 7 years in the EPL and has won 14 trophies and counting.

    Pep has done superbly well to win the 15 trophies that he already has done at City, during his 8 seasons here, including last seasons Champions League ..... but the likelihood is that he will NOT stay at City even half as long as Fergies 26 seasons as manager at Old Trafford, so any comparison between the two, at this point in time, cannot really be there ........ and the most successful Liverpool manager, Bob Paisley, was only manager at Anfield for 9 seasons too, during which he won 3 Champions Leagues, amongst his 20 trophies ..... although he spent a lot longer there in other capacities.
    Arsenal Wenger won 17 trophies in 22 years at Arsenal ....
    So, in all probability, i doubt that Fergies lengthly period of time, and 38 trophies, including 3 Champions Leagues at Old Trafford will ever be beaten ..... well , until the day someone unexpectedly manages to better it anyway!

    People can bring up all the trophies, and stats, but I'll compare them in a different way. Let's look at Pep's former teams: Barcelona, won a treble, winning 21 when he left. Bayern Won a sextuple, winning 18 trophies he left. Man City is winning with him, but let's be honest if he left not much would change. Man United hasn't won a single league SAF is left, winning 5 trophies without him. He could win 10 trebles and yet it wouldn't change the fact that SAF has had a FAR FAR greater impact on his team. United will never have the amount of dominance when SAF was around . That makes him the Greatest manager of all time . Plastic City fans will never understand that

  • @nerdifymusic7322
    @nerdifymusic7322 Před rokem +4

    Tactically, he is the most revolutionary manager. No one comes close IMO. Whether he's the best, I still learn towards SAF. Everything you talked about growing players and letting bigger players go, SAF was popularized that. I don't agree with the check book thing because he still has to get them to play. Yes, it helps plus he has no control over the valuation of the players. I do give SAF big ups on this because he still won the league when he couldn't spend on big players though.
    The box midfield by the way was run by Potter first (I could be wrong but Tifo did a video about it when Potter first introduced it at Brighton then Xavi did it) but Xavi did it before Pep.

ONLY THE BEST TALENT BY RULE BECOMES GOAL SCORERS, THE MOST INTENSELY GUARDED PLAYER POSITION. Only when someone not best at scoring goals or striker, they choose lessor positions, roles. SAME LOGIC APPLIES to Managers position..

    We need to ask our self. What criterial are we using to measure greatness. So to me this is not a debate. Untill we are able to have measures we are using start putting each manager in those criterial till we can say. This is the GOAT coach. If we are using World cup he has not won , If we are using Countries he has coached and winning trophies he is not the First ( Ancelloti, Conte, Mourinho, Mancini etc) and if we are using Champions laeague, he has not won it 3 consecutive years even when he had the best three players in the world ( Messi, Iniesta & Xavi). So we can go on and on and on. So let us just agree Giardiola is one of the GOAT and not GOAT. My own take. Thanks all/
