I'm 71 , a life long musician ...and now have a new love....new favorites..

Here it is Sat. 3-16-24 and I've seen this episode of 9-1-1 many times, but really heard this for the 1st time. ☺
It's a real shame that this amazing band is not more known, they are better than most of other singers
What this video says to me: one woman can look upset and have everything seemingly go wrong. Another woman can look happy and have a seemingly perfect life with everything going right. But they're both singing the same words -- on the inside, they're the same, both lonely, both struggling. And at the end of the day, they wind up in the same place.
This is what I got from it too. It's quite a strong message to say 'without you, my life is miserable, and everything sucks', but I think it can be equally profound to say "even though my life is good, I still really want you here, because it's better with you in it".
to me it can i get the two of them on my Harley and take them home ;)
Well, there's also the very clear message physical beauty is a huge asset in life and you'll be treated like snow white by people around you

@@TWolf317 Not really, Klara's boyfriend had broken up with her right before she and Johanna left to write the album. It's more about feeling like shit and the perspective it gives you on life VS someone who has a more positive outlook. Her make-up and clothes also aren't as flattering as Johanna's, I think because those are times when you don't really feel pretty or good about yourself.
You girls have no idea how much your music means to me. As someone still in the early stages of recovery, and as someone who adopted music as a part of recovery, you two have really resonated with me. Your music and personalities are inspiring, and really helpful! Thank you, and keep it up! I'm really excited to see what comes next.

People are posting about about it being “ugly vs pretty.” I don’t believe that’s the case. The album is being said to be about breakup. So maybe, how one feels after a breakup (left) as opposed to what it felt like before (right).
Yeah something like that! More or less i believe it is about the way people talk about how free you feel and how simple a break up is versus how shitty and lonely it actually is...
yeah exactly! My other thought was that too. Because both are identical in regards to the places they visit. The only difference is the emotion conveyed.
The song was definitely written about Klara's breakup with her fiance, yes. But, videos don't always reflect what the song was actually written about. The fact is that until Klara and Johanna tell us what their aim was with this video, we'll never really know. Until then, it's open to interpretation. I think both interpretations sre entirely plausible.
My hang up is just the "ugly vs pretty" interpretation some ppl throw out there. Cause that's all subjective and I don't think they'd make a video claiming such things.
Shane Mullins - Then I assume you're not a woman. 😊 (Sorry, but you just can't tell from first names these days...) Any woman will get it. Especially if they've ever been called "the less pretty sister" - and I'd bet Klara's heard that more than once in her life/musical career.

It's a shame others aren't treating Klara how they treat Johanna to whom the world is dancing with. It's a shame people are always are leaving/excluding Klara leaving her lonely and sad, Johanna does not have that problem for whatever reasons. In conclusion the world may treat each sister different but at the end of the day they both treat each other with love and respect no matter what each goes through, they may leave each other but it's only temporarily, they always come back to each other at the end of the day.. You have to lose yourself to find yourself.

I notice how Klara mostly walks with her head down and forward while Johanna is usually looking around and that says so much! This video is just as much a work of art as this amazing song!
This is one of my most favorite videos ever. I've enjoyed reading the various interpretations of it. A friend of mine once said it was about about the "fat" sister being trod upon; I see his point of view. However, each of us is going to bring to the video our own experiences. I've always seen it as an exploration in perceptions. One sister steps in the puddle and sees it as a problem; the other jumps over the puddle. It's about responding to the situations life presents us and deciding how we are going to interpret those situations. It's Hem and Haw. "Who Moved my Cheese?"
Anyone who's been the ugly duckling of the class can tell you that enthusiasm and charisma is more easily fostered when life is kind to you
@@MrHerecomesjohnny Thanks for the reply. Your point is well taken. As someone who has been the ugly duckling or at least an unpopular kid, I've learned that life is neither kind nor unkind. It is up to us to determine the value of our experiences.
You can tell your friend that, as someone who's seen them live, I can attest that Klara is not "fat". Not that it would be bad if she was, but they're both really tall and Johanna is very thin. More to your point, it's a difference I've been able to observe. I'm shy and going through depression while a friend of mine is more outgoing and confident. She's married now, but in the past, when we entered a room, men would look at her, not me. She was more in shape than me, but I wasn't ugly or fat. Even when she left me with a guy for a bit to give me a chance, the minute she came back, he completely stopped looking at me. It was striking. That being said, we're not all equal when it comes to having a positive outlook, our personal history and brain chemistry play into it.

I didn't think I would love this so much. Their voices are beautiful, and starting at 3:06 I actually had chills. I can't remember the last time I had chills during music that wasn't classical or nostalgic for me. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go check out the rest of their discography.

Yes, Arina is correct. And also, in the 2nd verse, I believe "I try so hard to be amused" should be "I try so hard to be of use." I saw them on the Graham Norton show last weekend, and it certainly looks and sounds lke that's what she's saying.

I saw them a few years ago at Somerset House in London with my ex, we’d split up before the show, and he was an ass, but there was no way I was missing out on going. Such lovely sound! I heard this song on the latest 9-1-1 episode and just had to look it up. I thought it was some hidden early 90's gem I hadn't discovered, but to my surprise it was released last year. Nice to know artists can still produce such unique music. Love it!

I like when people say there's "no good music" anymore. I think what they mean is they are stuck in the past and it clouds their ability to pay attention to the artists making amazing music today - like FAK, for example.
I am a Gen Xer, and our music ruled! But I agree with you about people being stuck in the past. However, there is one caveat; the top 40 radio music is crap, but that's often been the case. Many folks are listening to that, rather than searching for the indie music. Consequently, they are unaware of the amazing contribution Millennials are making to music.

Do you all not see how fucked up it is that you're assuming its about being ugly vs beautiful, implying that Klara is "ugly." In an interview she said it's about their different experiences in LA. How Klara was exhausted and over worked, while Johana was constantly pushing her to work harder and do more. It's just about their different experiences with fame, and specifically what it's like to be sad in L.A.

last year on the right and this year on the left. Things have changed a lot on the basis of the outlook. Skin isn't good like before due to no diet. Ate more so became obese. Stopped working out so now even more depressed. A bulimic. Was not sober for the skinny but felt good about thyself. Got clean af. Then on and off again antidepressants. I don't exist anymore. Not a good show to others anymore. The relapse of recreational abuse. No one to listen the witty overweight. Spent all of it after existential proof and recognition. Left nothing much. Tired of talking about what could have achieved if things were different. Kept on making mistakes one after another bouncing back to the same old. Trying so hard to come back to life wide awake. Don't care the left or right. Existing for a purpose still not found. Show is over. Getting back to work. Provide.

I think they're trying to say, the perspective when you left your insecurities to control your day, and you just feel like everyone is against to you, but the other side when you feel so bright and secure about yourself, everything comes to a perfect day.
