He was booed during this performance. David Bowie and Jackson Browne thought he was great. Jackson Browne offered his studio and Stevies first album Texas Flood was recorded. It was released at the end of 82. The rest is history. He went back to Montreax in 85 and blew everybody away!!! We lost him way too soon. Couldn't Stand the Weather is a great song check it out!!!!!
This was SRV's 1st performance at Montreux. The audience was not familiar with blues and he was booed. When he became famous he was asked to come back and blew the fkn roof off the place.
The previous act was acoustic and Stevie came out louder than a Shuttle Launch and the crows was not ready. They were also expecting a Texas bluesman to be a black guy with a resonator guitar or some such. A fair number got up and left. Stevie was really affected by the crowd response but Jackson Brown reassured him after the show. It is reported the Jackson Brown also helped him get the "Lets Dance" gig with David Bowie.
My mother's name was Joy and she loved it. The first time we saw Stevie Ray, this was the first song he did. He could play that guitar, sing the blues and he was from Texas. It was love for her! RIP Mom and SRV. The greatest ever.
Fun Fact: Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote this for his new girlfriend when he was inspired by their relationship. It was released as Texas Flood's first single, and quickly put the then-unknown Texas guitar slinger on the national map. Also it’s the song from guitar hero 3 🎸🎸🎸
He made history with this performance because he was the fist artist to perform at this Jazz festival without a contract this is the concert that got him discovered.
Somebody that's on these guys patron request Stevie ray vaughan live version of 3rd stone from the sun so they can witness the craziest guitar work ever filmed.
Freakin SRV was such an amazing talent, with a gift from God that he shared with us…if only a short time. Most definitely in my top five, along with Eddie, Brian Setzer, Clapton, Mark Knopfler & Joe Satriani. Y’all gotta bring us more Stevie Ray! 🤘😎
You're watching the first unsigned act to ever play the Montroux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. It was a night of folk and acoustic type acts all night, then here comes Double Trouble with Stevie at his now famous super loud volume playing rocking blues. The crowd was mixed, for many people it was just too loud, or too whatever and booed them. Other people you can some cheering. Their album Texas Flood released the following year. I was 9 in 1982
Hey guys👋. So this venue is in Switzerland and yes a Jazz Festival. They were the only unsigned band to ever perform there. But they booked them on an all acoustic night and half the audience were not happy with this loud and proud band that totally switched up the whole mood. But that weekend David Bowie and Jackson Browne sought him out and were helpful in getting them national attention. Pride and Joy is a Stevie original. A masterpiece original of Stevie's is Riveria Paradise as performed at Austin City Limits 1989 that showcases his gorgeous jazz side. My favorite of all🎶💙🎸💙🎶 And as far as I'm concerned, Stevie was and still is numero uno🎶💙🎸.
He asked me one night if I had any nail glue. I must have given him the strangest look! He’d put the glue on the tip and stick it to another part of his skin, let it dry, and RIP!
Yo fellas you should react to STV unplugged on mtv the whole thing. It’s what unplugged was always meant to be . It’s just a guy on a stool with his guitar . It’s insane.
I have this cd on in my car right now. It's my chill music for driving in the traffic so I don't get road rage! It's a guarantee good drive home when SRV is playing ❤
Holly...UR so right about that road rage. Although SRV has magical powers, whatever the songs and whoever the artist, 'music soothes the savage beast'. Use it !!
Lol, you said exactly what I was thinking. Yes, double trouble was a band but, it was Stevie Ray's backup band not a band Stevie was in. (But they sure were all loyal to one another!)
If you listen closely you will hear some boos this was the first time he ever got booed . He was scheduled late night and it was a night where they was playing soft Jazz and then you have him playing loud blues . It is listed Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble
Love me some ZZ Top, BUT Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble could also be called "That Little Ol' Band From Texas". Same three man set up, Guitar, Bass and Drums, Blues based Rock and Roll, and killer riffs from the Guitarist. Billy Gibbons was amazing, but Stevie Ray was one of the two or three best EVER. I personally saw ZZ Top three times, but I only got to see SRV& DT one time, in April of 1989, and it left a DEEP impression on me. RIP SRV.
SRV and Double Trouble (DT). DT is Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris “Whipper” Layton on drums. Reece Wynans was the keyboardist who joined later in the ‘84-‘85 time frame. These guys are so great because they gave SRV a solid foundation so he could go off on those wonderful solos! SRV was such a humble guy. Watch “Life Without You” at the Capital Theater for a special message mid song that explains the type of guy he was. SRV is the GOAT!
He is a great guitarist! Great improviser on stage! It’s always interesting to listen to him, to look at his movements on stage and what he does with the guitar!
montreux is the site of an annual jazz festival on the shores of lake geneva in switzerland. its mentioned in the deep purple single 'smoke on the water'.
I read somewhere that he cut his fingers on the string and he super glued them. Other good ones are Look At Little Sister (live), Pipeline with his brother Jimmy (live), Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland (live). ❤❤❤❤
This where Deep Purple wrote their song smock on the water, 'cuz the studio burnt during Zappa recording. DP was on the lake on a boat with Claude Nobs, they saw every flame & the Smoke on the Water...
I first guitar influence in 1990…when I started to play! He utilizes the blues scale in his technique..it may be fairly easy actually…but he puts feel into what he plays!
You need to watch his warm-up session before a performance where he’s playing ‘Mary had a Little Lamb’. I think you both would enjoy it just a suggestion take care and be safe. Thanks for sharing.❤️🫶🏻🤠
My mom used to sing this song to me when I was little, but she changed the lyrics to "He's my little momma's boy" and it made me laugh like crazy. Miss her every day.
That was the Montreaux Jazz Festival. The reason for the crowd reaction was one of confusion- they were not expecting what they heard. Despite that, this is where he really was "discovered".
This would have been a bit different for the crowd to be "turned up" for. This was at the Montreux Jazz Festival which is in Switzerland (Near Lake Geneva I believe). It's considered a legendary performance by many legitimate guitar legends who happened to see him at that show.
This is SRVs first appearance at the Montreaux jazz festival. The band were virtually unknown outside of the US , and were not welcomed warmly as an electric band...you can hear "boos" throughout the set, but eventually Double Trouble won much of the crowd over, and by the end of this performance they had made new fans.
SRV was a great one,who I did see live at a smaller venue.A great concert for sure.I would love to see you guys react to another great, who a lot forget about.Try Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush from 1978 at the Midnight Special playing King Bee,and Johnny Be Goode,or from his Live at the Agora concert playing It's Begun To Rain,or The Answer. You will see a man who takes a back seat to nobody. Thanks for this one!
My Top 5 Guitarists; Eddie Dime Joe Satriani Alex Lifeson Phil X (relatively unknown for his original music. Accomplished session guitarist. Been a member of Bon Jovi for the last 12 years. His solo stuff is fun fun fun. REALLY amazing guitarist)
Stevie's amazing as always but so many people don't realize how good Double Trouble was & especially to keep time with a free-styling master like Stevie !( ps - lose the lists they are subject to your own personal preferences & there's so many genre's etc )
I was lucky enough to see him open up for Robert Plant in 88 he literally seduced me with his guitar and then he sang... smooth as butter . RIP Stevie Ray 🙏 Peace out ✌️ ☮️
Dudes! Loving you's are digging SRV. Ya gotta check out Sweet Little Sister live with the 2 and truly only SRV and the man himself that oozes blues as well, one of my favs, Jeff Healey! You won't regret it. Check it out 😎🤘🎸
Check out Cold Shot..definitely will enjoy it..basically anything he does is phenomenal..gone way too young his music still impacts till this day..one of a kind..to me he's the GOAT..NO DISRESPECT TO ANY OF THE GREATS. HE'S IN A CLASS ALL BY HIMSELF
Yes he goes by Jon Bon Jovi, his real name is John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. I totally see why he changed is lol. lol don't get married to my 2nd wife lol. As Eddie said when asked what it is like being the best guitarist on the planet... "I don't know, you have to ask Roy Clark. I highly recommend Magdalena by him, the one with him on the old show Odd Couple is a great one to start with.
They were booed during this. Because he was unknown at this time. How they couldn't appreciate his skills I don't understand. Srv is the goat hands down.
The crowd actually booed them in between songs and when they left stage. They were too loud and two electric and the crowd just didn't get it. But there were important people watching that snapped him up
SRV to my knowledge used heavy strings, most great guitarist's struggled to play them. Billy Gibbons struggled till he went to lighter strings. That may be why his guitar sounds so hard

Also, his song "I'm cryin" was written after a fight between the two of them.
In my mind it's about his guitar.

ya and many booed them because they were not a jazz Band.
By David Bowie no less. And yeah this was at the end of an evening of acoustic bluegrass. So yeah, boo's a plenty.
He came back to Montreaux years later and got big applause-after he got more famous and European jazz crowds understood him a little better.
Stevies brother Jimmy Ray Vaughan was in a Band called Fabulous Thunderbirds had a great video called Tuff Enough. Did his thing too.
Somebody that's on these guys patron request Stevie ray vaughan live version of 3rd stone from the sun so they can witness the craziest guitar work ever filmed.

David Bowie first heard him at Montreaux. Asked him to play on Let’s Dance and China Girl
He asked Stevie to tour with Jim and he turned him down
Stevie ray vaughns best live video is of the song life without you.

One of my all time fave SRV songs!!
Callouses peeled off and he super glued them back
He asked me one night if I had any nail glue. I must have given him the strangest look! He’d put the glue on the tip and stick it to another part of his skin, let it dry, and RIP!
His cover of Voodoo Child is amazing, and look up his videos of him playing behind his head and back.

Double Troublee was HIS band, he wasn't "part" of it. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble
Lol, you said exactly what I was thinking.
Yes, double trouble was a band but, it was Stevie Ray's backup band not a band Stevie was in. (But they sure were all loyal to one another!)
actually, before it morphed into SRV & DT, Stevie was part of a 5 piece called Double Trouble with Lou Ann Barton and a different lineup.
@tracyborden1468 True, and a good point that I had forgotten, though, not when this was recorded.
Love me some SRV everyday, keeps me verrry happy 😊
Saw him at the Arkansas State Fair in the early 8o’s- he played in the cattle barn and opened for Wall of Voodoo 🤣
There is no list for Stevie, Jimi, Eddie. Lists are for everybody else.
If you listen closely you will hear some boos this was the first time he ever got booed . He was scheduled late night and it was a night where they was playing soft Jazz and then you have him playing loud blues . It is listed Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble
Stevie is and will always be my #1 Guitar Hero.
I could literally watch SRV play guitar all day. What an absolute legend. RIP
Stevie Ray could play lead and rhythm at the same time. The two other musicians are Double Trouble.
Always so much fun in the Live With The Tribe! It's one of the highlights of my week for real! Much love, y'all

he used to play like 11 or 12 Guage strings. would make our normal fingers bleed if we played bending like he did.
Up to 13s at some point, is what I heard.

The word genius is banded around far too easily but in Stevie Ray Vaughns case he really was a GENIUS.
I love the dancing. I have been told that I am a very talented chair dancer. Keep up the great work. Love your videos!
SRVs voice is often overlooked. Some songs that highlight his vocals are “life without you” or “tin pan alley”
I saw him Live. best show I've seen.
