- Join us, Carol & Ken, on our first ever trip in our new campervan called Snoopy, as we take him on a shakedown tour to get used to driving and living in a larger van.
In this video, after two days relaxing at Bridlington Caravan and Motorhome Club Site, we visit Nostell Priory, an impressive 18th century Palladian house.
We discover the game of Forbidden Island, great to play on the iPad.
Time for a cooked breakfast the next day at Castleton while the mist clears then we tackle the steep climb up to Peveril Castle.
A visit to Hardwick Hall, the 16th century home of Bess of Hardwick finishes off our trip in style.

I've been a subscriber for a couple of years. When my wife recently passed away at the age of 64, the name of your channel suddenly had a lot more meaning.
It is packed with meaning Brian as you well know. When my sister lost her husband before they got to use their camper it taught me a life lesson ❤️👍

Hello, I really enjoyed this video, thank you for sending it to me.
I went to Aldi for the first time this morning, and I will definitely be going back there again.
We normally get chicken, white rice and sauce to go over the top of it at Tesco's. At a price.
But after that we decided to go to Aldi, and in there was sweet and sour chicken with everything in this packet for 85p.
It was lovely now I understand why you shop there.

Hardwick Hall is only 15 mins away from where I live , I've walked the grounds many times but never ventured inside the house thank you for sharing. Did you have a meal in the Hardwick Inn I can heartily recommend it you will not be disappointed.

Consort haven't listed the 240Ah lithium as an option on their website yet, I guess that's a "coming soon" option generally available.
I don’t know to be honest. I do know at least one other owner who has specced it in their build and that was before our video went live so they must be offering it. 👍
I think the drapes Ona four poster were for privacy cos sometimes servant or ladies maid stayed in the bedroom,or merely to keep draughts off and the light out ..thanks for the great video Ken n carol.

The first time, I could not watch your video as I had something to do at the same time so I just listened to it and it was absolutely beautiful with the great choice of musics, your light conversations and your narration. Traditional british food as we norwegians know is the curry dishes. But thats not british, hmmm... well, its the fish and chips with curry sauce and green peas. The best one I tasted was at Oban with a sole fish. Next one is apparently the steak and kidney pudding which I still need to find. The haggis, neeps and tatties I fell in love with in Scotland. The traditional pub dinner steak sandwich or the scottish eggs. Here in norway our fish and chips only comes with a jug of aioli or maionaise, not with curry sauce or green peas. If you come back to Norway, try the warm fish cakes for take away and the moules marinieres. And the fish soup with shellfish. The west coast of Norway is absolutely best for fish and shellfish. Fishing in the sea and plucking shellfish is free.
We must try some seafood if we go back to Norway. We cook some up on the beach here in England in a couple of episodes’ time ☺️

Yes we do. It’s the rain that makes our countryside so green. We have a real mix of weather and like it. It makes us really appreciate the sun when it pops out 😁👍
thank you for mentioning descaling the truma heater had never heard of it before am installing a truma in my self build and now have found out how to descale the truma when necessary ,the house was amazing so much to see

That was am amazing adventure. There is no way I could have made it up that hill after that breakfast! Before breakfast maybe, but after, I'd have needed a stroll and a nap to recover. There were some breath taking views from that walk. Can't wait to see what's next.

Recognised Shillito Woods park up immediately. We parked overnight in exactly the same spot last year.
We stayed in Castleton at that park-up for a couple of days. Wonderful area. We did so many walks there, some were very steep. Nice to see the castle again.

Castleton, it’s parked up like that every Friday,S,S and some week days too, nose to tail, can’t see the fun in it?
Then under Tinsley viaduct, then Chesterfield, that’s a cracking spot.

Regarding descaling your hot water heater, I've done it several times over the years, on our caravans, and previous motorhomes, it's not a difficult job.
I thought the water in Ireland was hard, but in Spain this winter we found the water incredibly hard and chalky. The electric kettle was the benchmark and descaled at least 4 times.
I have a 15 litre container in which I put 4-5 litres of WHITE vinegar then fill the remainder with water.
Ensure the water heater is OFF. Empty the water heater by lifting the yellow tap. Once the HW tank is empty, shut the yellow tap, and using the water supply hose from the container Pump and refill the HW tank until the pump stops. To completely empty the container open up a hot tap until the solution can be noticed (smell or taste with vinegar! NOT any other chemical descaler!!)
NB: this maybe a bit different in a motorhome, as your tank is internal. So you may have to do this via the van water tank, which should be empty beforehand.
I give the water heater a single cycle on the hottest setting and then leave the solution for 12 hours then drain and flush with fresh water.
I understand there are no elements within the HW tank, as they (on electric) are within the outer aluminium fluted shell. The gas, or in your case diesel, the flame is within the burner assembly.
It's fairly noticeable when the job needs doing as you become accustomed to how long it takes to heat the water, and you'll notice that the water temperature isn't quite as hot.

Castleton is a lovely village, we have stopped at Lane Ends Caravan Site about a mile down the road in the village of Hope. It’s a lovely walk through the fields to Castleton from Hope.
You won’t regret that Lithium Battery, we have the EcoTree version of the same size and it genuinely has been a game changer for our van.

Hi Carol and Ken we have got a bit behind but have settled down for a relaxing evening binge watching you to get back up to date. We loved your trip here to Nostell its a property we love to visit regularly the house is beautiful and the gardens and wider estate lovely to walk around. They have a particularly good Father Christmas here during December who always shares a few tales if you visit in the week when it's quiet. The breakfast looked great you needed it for the climb to the castle. Hardwick is another of our favourite places as well just love the feel of the house and Bess is such a strong character. I once read that the drapes were for privacy for the sleeper as well as warmth. In those days servants often were in the rooms all night in case they were needed. The would be outside the curtains if needed, but with the curtains got to hear, but not see, whatever was happening in the beds. The higher in society the sleeper, the more servants in the room.
