As a Liverpool fan, if you are capable of scoring 200 premier league goals and 267 for a club that don't spend money like its Monopoly, then its actually more of an achievement. Harry Kane is world class, he has been for many years and there will always be people who say "he should have left", but his legacy at Spurs will live on long after we are all in the ground.

You lot are sad. Richards is about as intelligent as a brick

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I guess time adds a rose tint to the glasses, but I remember watching the graceful way that Henry would run an arc around the outside of the defence, cut back in, and still beat the scrambling back line to the goal and it was just something else. Stats are legacy, but favourite memories of having seen what some of these players could do are hard to challenge.
Harry Kane 5-6 years ago had 2 seasons where he scored 30 & 29 goals in the prem before that he's had 21 & 25. Since then he's had seasons of 17 & 18 in the the prem. Maybe that's because he's been asked to do a different job in creating goals as well. He dosent really play like a striker anymore but more of an all around CF. Similar to that of Totti.
Lol Carragher knew he would rather play against Kane but didn’t want to say😂😂😂😂😂
Shearer kicked Neil Lennon [Leicester] in the face, threw the muscular Lauren [Arsenal] around like he was a child and broke Ramon Vega's [Spurs] nose. He also fought with Gillespie & Ginola [Newcastle]. Carra 100% knows Kane is a teddy bear🧸🧸
As soon as Souness asked Carragher who he'd have gotten more joy from Carragher knew Shearer would have been a bloody nightmare, but didn't want to admit it of course

A great legacy doesn’t always have to be about trophies, Kane has achieved something that most players will never do and that’s more than enough. Fair play to Harry Kane. He is a phenomenal striker. Shearer had 2 serious injuries one at Blackburn & one at Newcastle that cost him 2 and a half seasons. Shearer also scored 23 top flight goals for Southampton. If kane breaks the record which he surely will it’s a brilliant achievement and Shearer himself will be the first to congratulate him

Despite how much Kane loves Spurs I do think he will regret signing that massive contract and I do think if he doesn't win any trophies he will regret it. His legacy is secure as one of the best prem strikers ever but Trophies are what all players want. To be known as a winner
Jamie forgot about Thierry Henry - the only player in PL history to score and assist 20 + goals in the same season. Shearer and Rooney were amongst the best players in the world. At Euro 2004 when Rooney was only 18 there were established internationals calling him the best player in the world. Shearer was at one time the most expensive player in the world. Henry is regularly voted the greatest PL player of all time. Nobody says Kane > Lewandowski, CR7, Mbappe, Haaland or even their equal. Henry>Shearer&Rooney>Kane
Henry was a better player than Shearer but i'd pick prime Shearer all day long because he was a goal machine. If not for bad injuries he'd have scored even more than he did.
When Shearer was in on goal, you knew he'd scored. Top level.
@@-The-Darkside henry wins every poll about the best prem player ever so I think you're in a minority there.
Henry was robbed of a Ballon dor. Imagine if he was coming through at Arsenal in this era of football with a lot more knowledge and facilities to maintain a body so you can keep on going at the top level even past your mid 30's. He would eclipse Mbappe and Haaland in my opinion!
@@SINGHDASLAYA totally true on Henry being robbed, for 2 years he was the best player on the planet. I remember all the football magazines voting him the best player in the world at the time. Its mad he won a league title unbeaten, was top for goals across Europe and top assists and still missed out on Ballon dor that season.
And it wasnt just the numbers as to why he deserved it. It was how we would absolutely dominate a match with moments of absolute genius and athleticism that no one on the pitch could match.
But after the 05 season he was really struggling with an achilles injury, having to have painkilling injections b4 every match, it changed the way he played, he would drop much deeper and wasn't as quick as he once was. Around 06 it also coincided with the leaving of Pires and the retirement of Bergkamp, both of who he had a superb understanding with and who both facilitated Henry so much in how he played, especially Bergkamp with his inch perfect through balls. He took up a more playmaker style role a little deeper than Reyes, Hleb etc.
Maybe modern medicine would have prolonged his natural attributes if he played nowadays but I think a lot of it is down to individual player physiology and how their body responds to the rigours of such high level physical activity.
The greatest premier league player of all time is Ryan Giggs.
Think of the centre backs Shearer faced versus those that Kane has faced. Shearers era of defenders absolutely dominates this era.
Mate they got kicked all over the place. Kane wouldn’t hack it in those days
@@peppercrybeatz Don't be daft. Based on what? If Kane had played then he would have still been world class. He might have gotten fewer goals because of 2 striker system and the CBs were of higher quality in that generation, but he would also have gotten more assists than Shearer. If you're saying that about Kane based off no actual evidence you're basically saying "let's rule this entire generation of attackers out because they weren't kicked"- like ofc that isn't true, they would have lived in that era so most of them would have been used to it.
I would put Shearer as the better player though.. But not by a lot.

Henry is the best player in premier league history by the way and I'm not knocking Kane he's outstanding, but anyone who saw them play at their peak would pick Shearer over Kane given the choice.
Maybe he didn't answer because he genuinely didnt know?
As a striker Shearer is clear. Half his Carrer at Newcastle they were below bottom half and he is still miles clear. Plus two massive injuries. His goals in the old first division aren't even included. Guy is clear.
Brilliant having Jamie being upfront and challenging people. Like him or not he gets the better answers
Kanes playing in a league where you can longer tackle. Shearer was a phenomenal player, snubbing United and going to Newcastle made him the player he was I think. In my 30 years there's 3 that stand out.
Shearer
Rooney
Henry.
They played when the epl and competition was at the peak!! A real man's game!!
100% agree
Same age. Correct. Getting up Sunday morning early and watchin MOTD. They were monsters
I supported arsenal coz Henry and then Fabregas
There’s many factors that affect the ability of a goal scorer to score goals and tackling is one of them. On the flip side, defences are definitely a lot better organised and difficult to break down (especially as half the clubs like to park the bus nowadays) which makes it harder.
So it’s not as easy as “tackling was tougher back then so strikers were better back then”. The quality of defending and defensive tactics have improved over time which is a factor
Insane that Graeme and Micah didn't mention that Shearer had 3 major injuries in his career, missing most of 92-93, 97-98, and 00-01.
He also has the record having predominantly played in a mid-table Newcastle team that was only near the top 5 times. Kane is unbelievable and a much better link up player than Shearer was, but he's never been on the level Shearer was from 93 to 97, he only didn't win the Balon d'Or in '96 because of R9 and (weirdly) Euro '96 winner Sammer, he was absolutely ridiculous.
Alan shearer finished tied 32nd in the 1995 balon dor. So he didn’t win it because 30 players were above him.

Not kanes fault
@@sib1930 I don't think that's what micah was saying? To be honest it's hard to judge as strikers especially these days are more protected, you only have to sneeze next to one for a free kick to be given. In Shearers time I'd you took the ball then went through the player it was normal, now if you slide past someone with your foot at the wrong hight make zero contact you run the risk of getting booked for intent.
Kane plays in an era where players are superior athletes too. There’s no actual metric of comparison for ‘getting stuck in’. It certainly is a debate, and when he eclipses shearers record perhaps you’ll reconsider your point.

@@musicwithguitars Who is Acidic? Did you mean the Serbian Terminator Nemanja Vidic?

If you include Alan Shearers first division goals he has 283 goals which is more of a valid comparison because it is not Shearers fault he started his top level career before the inception of the premier league. Harry needs another 83 league goals just to match that. He needs to average 14 goals a season to match that if he plays till 36 for a premier league club.
First division had more than 38 games though..
@@Jamiebbbbb That is irrelevant as it is still top flight goals. Shearer isn't even top of that it goes to Jimmy Greaves who scored 357 goals.
Stats do count for alot but there is something that counts for more, the eye test. What you see with your own eyes, watching a player and seeing how they play and their body language. If stats between 2 players are similar then that's when the eye test counts the most, perfect example from Micah is CR7 vs Messi. Very similar stats in terms of goals per game but clearly from the eye test one is superior.
He said R9
Which is why Henry is the best striker in PL history, because of what you saw with your eyes was just out of this world.. Forget about the stats.
One huge thing that nobody talks about is how modern football in the Premier league caters more for attacking players than it did when Rooney and Shearer were around. The level of defending generally was much higher 10/20 years ago. I think Shearer and Rooney would have even more goals if they played now. Not to take anything away from Kane though because his numbers are unbelievable
That's a great point
do people actually think defense or any intangible from football for that matter was better 20 years ago than it is now?
football just like every other sport and competitive game evolves forward. that naturally means players, coaches, tactics and everything gets better through knowledge and development. players now have better fitness, coaches, physios, personal trainers and healthcare which generally allows a better longevity and just equates overall objectively to a better player than somebody from the 90's for example.
that being said maldini for example is still a better defender in comparison to the era than someone like ramos but this notion that the game was better back then is the most dumbest thing ive heard.
@amez685 The game has evolved generally of course but more from an attacking point of view. Nearly every team in the top leagues are coached to keep possession and play out from the back and play a higher defensive line. The issue with this is you have a lot of players who aren't technically good enough to do this (lower half teams for example). You see a lot of goalkeeping and defensive errors now as opposed to 20 years ago when goalkeepers and defenders would play long balls and be more physical defensively. Teams like Bolton, Wimbledon and Stoke are great examples. They were genuinely very difficult to play against even for the top teams at the time because of the way in which they would set up.
Shearer also had a couple of bad injuries and played in some average mid table Newcastle teams. Plus his Southampton goals pre Prem 🙌
Kane has also had some serious and recurring ankle injuries in particular so I don't think that differentiates them. Kane by the end of his career will almost certainly have scored more goals and got far more assists.

Shearer and Rooney played against some serious centre backs and they were allowed to really be aggressive with the strikers compared to nowadays. The centre backs now are not as good as them days. They might be a bit better on the ball but when it comes to defending this era of defenders are not that good. If Kane came up against prime Terry, Campbell, Desailly, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carvalho etc etc he would have struggled. Another thing is Shearer used to play for average sides let’s be honest now. Kane has played for Tottenham who are a regular Champions League club so they’re not average. To score that many goals with an average team and up against the best defenders of all time is a different level right there.
Maybe the top 6 CBs were better in Rooney's prime but the leagues CBs as a whole are better now, defensively and and on the ball, you have more class at teams outside the top 6.
@@ashyknees653 defensively they are atrocious trust me. On the ball they are better but I’d rather have proper defenders who like to defend and are good at it than some nice cute centre backs who always give away the ball trying to play out all the time

Trophies for players as good as Kane are important. Those who have gone on to win them get immortalised in history and go on to become renowned by generations after they are long past their careers. Look at the likes of Pele and Maradona, not many people are going to look at and appreciate the likes of a Le Tissier for many years to come like they do the likes of those major trophy winners. It will be a damn shame if Kane finishes his career without a major honour. Even Shearer won a premier league and competed for years at the top level in the latter stages for trophies with Newcastle. Spurs have only done it a couple of times in comparison and fell away without much of a fight.
Personally I believe that harry kane is the hardest working footballer in the premier league, it may not seem like it at first however, if you have watch him play you will have noticed his incredible work rates and in the games where he may not play as well he will still find a way of scoring even with the fact he plays so deep. In conclusion I believe harry kane is Better than Rooney and Alan shearer because Rooney and shearer are more naturally gifted and harry Kane is more hard work and this is true because Rooney and shearer pritty much burst onto the scene in their first games but Kane had to master his style of play overtime with massive amounts of effort.

Kane is incomparable to Wayne Rooney.
Wazza’s all round play just everything about him makes him without doubt the greatest player from the premier league.
He did it from 16 years old that is insane..Rooney will always be underrated in England it’s strange.
They are very much comparable when you consider he’s overtaken on International goals and will overtake on prem goals, and at the same time drops deep to play make. It’s very much comparable kid
Kanes finishing shooting and passing is literally on rooneys level
@@Ajust-bx3lr behave Rooney led his team to multiple trophies, Kane is nowhere near Wayne Rooneys level.
@@JJJ-ok7nc ok then if you wanna compare players based on stats let’s compare trophies?
Stats are boring I prefer judging footballers on the eye.
Alan shearer scored 57 pens in the premier league..stats can lie to you.
@JJ J Rooney wasn't playing all this weak international league games they now have adding more useless teams is the reason why Ronaldo & Kane have so many meaningless goals. Rooney was a big game player & best
If Kane played for City/United a lot more people would have him in the GOAT premier league striker debate. He's been held back by Tottenham.
If Kane played for city or United he’d have to be a better player
Can say the same for shearer
(PL) Best striker, most prolific, most consistent and most iconic can be all different strikers. The best striker is the one who has played the least amount of games to reach a higher goal tally.
Kane is a great striker but he can also drop deep and play balls like kdb now you dont see haaland doing that or any other top striker! I do agree for once what jamie is saying what kane does you never see from a striker
Kane is better than Shearer and the only reason ppl say his not is because he plays for spurs. He is top 3 strikers in the premier league history. End off.
Something you have to bear in mind is that Shearer's numbers are playing for Newcastle and Blackburn. Imagine his numbers in a top 4 team, or if he'd gone to United
Those were the united of that time
Blackburn for a while were a top 4 team, so were Newcastle.
@@isaacjacobs3785 true but not for long. Most of his career at Newcastle was mostly mid table really
blackburn were miles better back then compared to this tottenham team today
@2:25 😂 yeah you do know carragher!
When did Tony Cottee of the West Ham I used to watch score over 200 goals?
Most were before the Premier Legue started. All other counties except England take into account goals scored from before 1992.
Trophies shouldn’t define Harry’s legacy in my opinion. He’s been consistently brilliant and congratulations to him.
His loyalty to Tottenham should be respected and applauded!
Exactly...trophies are a team success....
267 goals for spurs!
We can't blame him for Spurs being trophy dodgers. Even Fergie won't win a trophy there. Kane will be regarded as a PL great.
People use trophies against Shearer though and that's despite him carrying Blackburn to a PL title against a superb United team.
Hard to choose between them
The trophies argument is less relevant in todays football. It’s easier to win trophies if you go an sign for the richest team at the time signing the biggest players. Staying doesn’t make Kane any more or less of a player.
Kane posting those numbers playing for a team that’s been between the 3rd and 7th best side in the league during his time there makes them more impressive
Shearers Premier League teams have a lower average finishing position then Tottenhams while Kane has been in the first team
@@C0mmand3r. I’m not knocking Shearer who was class but Kane topped the goals and assists charts over one season in a side that finished outside the European spots
Kane gets my vote for being better all round player
@@chrisf3929 I'm not knocking Kane eithe but nothing Big Al has done either... In 1995-1996 Alan scored 31 goals for Blackburn as they finished 7th meaning no European place for Blackburn before moving to Newcastle... Also far from public belief Shearer actually has 17 more PL assists then Harry, considering this is an area people believe is hands down in Kanes favor and no where near Shearer's best attributes should be recognised also
@@C0mmand3r. but shearers finished his career so those stats aren’t relevant till Kane is finished
At his present rate he’ll surpass Shearer if he stays fit but a lot can go wrongs between then and now
"who's says that"
Wasn't it souness telling pogba to put his Medals on the table a few years ago???
It's hard to compare different era's.
his job is to score goals which he has done, job done. not his problem the club hasn't invested around him to collectively get a trophy. in my opinion i think he should stay at spurs for rest of his career break the prem record for goals and get as many goals for spurs as he can, and if he wins a cup so be it. i rather be a club legend and earn money to set myself up for life with the money he has earned rightly so.
Lack of ambition. Says a lot about you, and Kane.
He’s up there with if not the greatest PREMIER LEAGUE & or ENGLISH striker off all time maybe not the greatest striker of all time though
Shearer was my hero but it's so close between him & Kane. Also some pundits always include Rooney in this debate, but he was more of a second striker playing behind the out & out striker.
Kane in my opinion 5th best pl striker behind Henry,Rooney,Aguero and Shearer. However he could end up with the most goals still won’t change my opinion
If rooney played with a system built around him and where was the main man no matter what like kane he would have better numbers. He was always helping van vistelrooy, ronaldo, berbatov, RVP etc be better and thats why united won trophies, because rooney could fit wherever he was needed in a way that kane and shearer never could
Totally agree with this, his selflessness actually seems to work against him in debates like this. In the seasons that he played as a number 9 and the main man he got 34 goals in them seasons. Rooney could play across the line at a high level which some people overlook.
Yet kane has scored more goals in a weaker England team in alot less time.kane is simply a better striker than Rooney, shearer thats a harder argument.
@@adamgratton5215 better goalscorer but not a better player. Rooney's passing, dribbling and power shooting was on a different level to Kane in his prime. Hence why he played as a winger ,attacking midfielder or false 9 most of the time. His creativity aside his goals is what marks him out as generational.
Rooney > Kane
@@adamgratton5215 the thing is though, you put prime rooney into that euros final against italy and i think we probably win, kane for club and for country regularly goes missing from the quarter finals onwards, and a few goals against panama and san marino doesnt really make a difference.
Thierry Henry is in a class all by himself. The real GOAT.
Graeme souness saying “ who says that” when he literally told pogba to put his medals on the table
That a hoover going off @ 1:00 😕
Souness caught Jamie out there tbh - when he asked him who he'd prefer to play against. If Carragher really thought Kane is better than Shearer he'd have said Shearer.
He didn't because he knew that he'd have had a nightmare against a prime Shearer - everybody did. But Sky wanted Carragher to talk up Kane here, so he did.
Equally he would have said Kane if he thought Shearer was better. He said he didn’t know what which basically means he rates them the same
How was he caught out
He's definitely up there can you imagine being Tottenham all time goalscorer the premier League all time and Englands all time goalscorer it's incredible he's so overlooked
You need to win something as well, goal scoring are good but not enough
He's overlooked because he has never elevated his team to a trophy, that sound harsh cos he has done almost everything possible to do so, apart from score in any of the finals he's been in.
@@sosolawson6587 trophies come down to the owners willingness to pay for trophies. Kane is the best striker ever
Jamie asks a question and then talks over the person trying to give their answer🤦🏾♂️
People forget the goals were smaller in Shearer’s day.
And the shorts were tighter,
Rooney had Rio & Vidic behind him. Kane has Eric Dier & Ben Davies.
Could of had better defenders behind him his fault and Rooney played everywhere not just ST.
Kane is great player without titles 👏
I think it's going to be difficult to say until Kane finishes his career. As it stands now, Shearer is better. But Kane has a better goals to game average and I personally prefer watching him play now than watching Shearer play back in the day. In these names for best Premier League players, it should be Rooney, Kane, and Shearer when it comes to strikers. Henry, yes, was fantastic and had great seasons, but he spent multiple years outside of the premier league. He had one of the greatest seasons of any player, but then you're talking about which players have had the best seasons, not the best premier league players. Rooney's numbers are lower in terms of goals, but look at the players he had around him also getting goals themselves. Shearer was at Blackburn and Newcastle where he was always the talisman and the focal point. Kane very similar at Spurs although less so now with Son but certainly he is the focus of the Spurs team. Until the latest stages of Rooney's career, he was one of a number of players of similar skill level all in that team, any of which can get you goals. That can also work against him. It's all opinions at the end of the day, there isn't a right answer to any of this.
No matter who you think is best, I think we can all agree the Premier League is the great league in the world, and that we've been blessed with some unbelievable talents over the years.
Compare goals scored by games played
Henry still the best for me. That number of goals and as many assists as prime De Bruyne. All around, the most complete striker.
Not even close. Van Nistelrooy was underrated asf and so was Cole. Shearer and Rooney were better then Henry.
@@MultiKadafi lmao
1.Henry
2.Shearer
3.Hazard
@@OfficialGobbledyGooker Hazard 😂💀
@@arrynbeacon8077 let's not forget Cantona and Drogba,Owen,Saurez,Torres.
Shearer is the GREATEST Premier league and English Striker of all TIME
lol
😂😂😂 aguero and Suarez we’re better than him
Henry better
Hi is not even Top 20
Didn't have the same distribution or assist making skills as Kane though
Aguero has the best goal per minutes ratio of anyone in history.
He had a lot of injuries too.
For a striker there is no other debate to be had. Aguero remains the best. Shearer is on record for saying Aguero is the best!
Unfortunately he won't hold it long with Haaland around.
Shearer has said several times that he would swap all his goals at Newcastle for a trophy with them. Trophies definitely mean more
Kane needs to win at least one trophy to justify his legacy.
Carra trying to get Micah to give him a straight answer but interrupting him every time he gets going is peak carra 🤣
Well said, Jamie.
When all is said and done Kane will be the premier leagues top scorer, englands top scorer and the top scorer at one club by a distance. Kane is world class, no question, and potentially top 5 striker in the Premier league era
Tbh if individual awards were glorified as much as they are in American sports Harry Kane I think would be held in much higher regard
