One Night In Baltimore: Witnessing America’s Gun Violence Crisis From A Trauma Center

  • It would be a “rare” night at Baltimore’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center if they didn’t treat a patient with a gunshot wound, nurse Heidi Halterman says. NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez takes us inside the facility - the nation’s only freestanding trauma hospital - on a Saturday night. Staff detail their frustration at witnessing America’s worsening gun violence crisis up close, and describe the race to save lives. The hardest part of their job, they say, is having to tell a mother that their son didn’t make it. “It doesn’t get easier,” Dr. Tom Scalea says. “It gets worse.” Scalea says he’s had to have that conversation more times than he wants to remember. “It makes me sad that in the United States of America, this is the best we think we can do,” he says.

University is the Best Hospital in Bmore. The docs and nurses took great care of me and my premature baby. I commend the staff in shock trama and I pray not only for the victims and their families, but for the doctors and nurses mental health and dealing with death day in day out. Lastly its heart warming yet heart breaking that they have to constantly pray over these ppl after death. Prayers for my Hometown

People are absolutely clueless about the pathology around gun violence in black American families. Slaves weren't killing each other. In the 100 years after slavery, the descendants of US slaves weren't killing each other. Black marital rates were higher than the majority and divorce was lower. Suddenly something changed, but US never addressed the change. I consult governments and businesses through workshops on this issue

I grew up in Manchester in the UK, my city of birth has a similar population to Baltimore, and we had 6 homicides in the city 2021 that were caused by gun violence. Even in our worst years back in the late 90s, when the gun homicides were triple what it is now it still would be far more peaceful that Baltimore in any given year. There are now too many illegal guns on the street, and there isn't much we can do about that issue now except protect ourselves and our family any way we can if we have to.

Sadly Baltimore being in the state of Maryland has one of the strictest gun laws in the country that it literally volatile's the Constitution of the United States 🇺🇸 of America just recently the Supreme Court the highest court in the Nation shot down the Handgun qualification license ( HQL cards) because it volatile's the Second Amendment rights that all law-abiding citizens are required to have along with fingerprints classroom time and along with a 7 day waiting time before you can take your handgun home , criminals in these strict gun law high violent crime areas literally have easier access to firearms because for one criminals don't care about laws especially when repeated violent offenders are not being prosecuted and are allowed back out on the streets having more rights than law-abiding citizens, these gun grabbing politicians mainly the Democrats are very soft on violent crime and literally side with violent offenders and totally against law enforcement that just want to do there job but instead are told to stand down or you will have a law suit America 🇺🇸 has literally turned in to a Banana Republic third World and it's infuriating and it has to change.

The child doesn't make guns, society won't loan that child $1 billion but they won't pushback on him/her getting all kinds of guns. We can't get money but we can surely get guns, HOW IS THAT SMART?? I'm going to do a documentary on the following: how guns are made, where are the guns shipped to, how guns are bought, who buys the guns and how are guns traced/not traced. This has nothing to do with parenting, it has everything to do with a society that hates each other and allows this madness to continue nonstop. People hate me because I'm black, they want me dead, they love when black people are killed. We are going to deal with these problems, gun violence is making a whole lot of people a whole lot of money 🤑🤑. I'm going to get a whole lot of money by speaking out clearly about the stupidity behind every argument for not better regulating guns.
