Sad scene. Another great Betty White performance, but not what we are used to seeing from her. Just shows how great an actress she is. I wondered if she thought of Allen Ludden in that scene to be able to give such an emotional performance. He was the love of her life & she said never wanted to marry again after he died.

Upon hearing the news of Betty White's passing a few days ago, I decided to rewatch "The Lost Valentine" at the earliest possible moment. For me, the movie represented her finest performance. This scene especially touched me as it reminded me of the time when my late maternal grandmother stood at the graveyard during my late grandfather's funeral. Yes, Betty White's portrayal of a widow in grief was magnificent. The look of anguish upon seeing the coffin enter the train station lobby (2:00) culminated with her kissing the flag (3:08), and finally ended with a sense of relief as she found closure (3:55). I did not see Betty White acting; I saw Caroline Thomas! The performances by all the cast were brilliant. I especially liked the interaction between Betty White and Helmar Augustus Cooper, who played the Station Master Joseph Williams, at the beginning of this scene (0:34 - 0:39). Caroline Thomas saying, "my husband is coming home today" to Station Master Joseph Williams triggered the most empathetic reaction by a person who was witnessing grief and resolution. That is GREAT ACTING! RIP Betty White. Your character Rose Nylund, together with Blanche Devereau, Dorothy Zbornak, and Sophia Petrillo reminded me of my late maternal aunts and my late maternal grandmother. "Thank You For Being A Friend"!

As a current soldier I still get choked up whenever I hear TAPS or read a story of the remains of fallen service members finally returning home to be laid to rest in the soil of their homeland. This scene always gets me teary eyed because I've met some elderly residents at my mom's old job who have personally gone through this. It's is both heartbreaking yet so humbling to know that when our fallen soldiers are returned they can finally rest in eternal peace. Lest we forget the sacrifices of our service members

I used to do funeral honors when i was in the navy. It was an honor to fold the flag for my fellow fallen sailors. How i made it through the ceremony without tearing up was only by the sheer will of wanting to honor those men and women as best i knew how. Its a deeply emotional feeling on so many levels. Thanks for your service.
