- We test out our Alaskan Chainsaw Mill and cut beams for the wood shed. We get one step closer to finishing the project once we fixate the rafters and lay down some metal roofing to keep our firewood dry.

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle czcams.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.
If you make a mistake and learn from it, it was NEVER a mistake to begin with - it was a LESSON.
I think you are doing great - keep driving on!
I like your way of thinking!!
This is a Great piece of advice brother!
its not a mistake until you fail to correct it
Failure is not the opposite of succes. It's part of it.
Never knew there was a contraption that made a chain saw able to mill lumber. How useful!
Benevolent tail wagging dog makes everything go well.
That wood shed looks really good.
In my early twenties I made one out of garage door track and rollers. Ran the saw vertical. Was real slick.
After your root cellar I believe there is nothing you both can't build. Love your videos, take care and be safe!
You 2 are "proud as peacocks " ... AND RIGHTFULLY SO after that build . You do Willow Alaska beautifully. Thank you both 👍👍
That came out so nice. An outdoor kitchen would be great under something like that.
WATER CATCHMENT..... I see that to being a solution to filling your tank for the garden..... No need to fire up the geny...
Great idea!
Wow … your wife helps cut wood.. Good job LADY… you strong women! You have a great time
thats the nicest woodshed i ever seen
I THINK A TWO OR THREE TANKS BEHIND TO CATCH WATER WOULD BE AMAZING...LOOKING SUPER.
That’s a pretty good idea, or they could put a gutter on it and run the water into catch barrels.
Shawn James also does it to all the wood that goes into the ground. He's built several dwellings and they still look as good as when he started! Can't go wrong with burning it!
I wonder how many of us subscribe to both channels>
Just watch Shawn James. He's a pretty authentic guy. Plenty of tips, some fails he admits. He's worth learning from.
Does that also stop white ants?
That would make a nice out door kitchen lol love your show.
Yess!!!
Great shed guys almost too nice just for a shed! Ever thought of doing a live Q&A stream somewhere with free WiFi? I think it could be popular and possibly get you guys some extra cash!
One more project practically finished, how satisfying.
I saw this this technique of burning the end of your logs on My Self Reliance, it's a very old way of preserving wood called Shou Sugi Ban. Love your videos.
Now you just need a hammock to hang between those beams! It is such a nice building. Great work. Always fun to see a new tool put to work. The extended daylight is so strange. Still bright at 10pm? I'D have to set an alarm telling me when to go to bed!
Arielle I have had Cher's song "If you believe in love" stuck in my head for 3 years. I knew what song you meant. The wood mill thingy makes really smooth beams. Really digging the socks Eric. Roo Roo is mouthy.
You two work so great together, you'd do great at building your own house.
The first two cuts with the Alaskan saw-mill make all sense. For the third, I would just put the beam on its flat, do a chalk-line and cut it with your chainsaw by hand. Accurate enough!!
I love how you use the top of the truck to manage moving the beams. Very creative! That's a real nice wood shed guys.
You guys are the best ! What a beautiful job ! I am of an age that though I enjoy watching you work , I always worry that you will hurt your back or fall off the ladder or trip or any of a hundred other scenarios that my family and friends worried about me back in the day when I was working. This project turned out so well it occurred to me that you could easily put an addition on the house that had a bee room that was just a little warmer than outside in winter. Continued success! Feel free to cancel your gym membership !
It is out of print but I used a book written by a guy named Will Maloof, a Canadian, who was a sawyer and developed all kinds of ways to enhance the productivity of using the Alaskan Mill concept. I once milled a lot of logs with the Alaskan...mostly black walnut. Angle your saw as much as possible withing the limits of travel of the mill width and it helps with the engagement angle of the saw with the wood. Maloof made a winch system and used a weight on the mill....stood at the one end and cranked the winch watching the saw come to him....saves your back big time. Chainsaw milling is WORK !!
I hate it when your videos end i really love watching you guys work..
You guys are awesome! Have you made a pitch so NatGeo? If not, do it now!!
Pro tip. If you know your rafter layout, stack your sheets on the ground and drill holes through the whole stack on your layout. Then you have nice predrilled holes all lined up for you once you get on the roof.
Those trimmings will make good firewood for this winter.
The first bike I ever rode was a Husqvarna 2 stroke. In a quarry, my friends helped me up on it. (I couldn't touch the ground) I took off. My friends looked at each other and went running after me. I admit I dropped it when I stopped and, my leg almost gave out. So awesome.
Nice build! Were always watching you 2 and your homesteading, recipes, building, gardening, adventures. May God always be with y'all with blessings and protection in the wilderness.
Troll Rooster should have his own instagram.
😅🤣👍
I have heard You Tube commenters almost as bad as the Troll Rooster.
🤣🤣👍👍👍👍🇧🇷🇨🇦
He,s become chicken stock now
@@velotill I hope not, he adds quirky character to the compound, kind of like the Mayor of Schitt’s Creek.
It is amazing what the two of you can accomplish at your ages. I know of folks your age who can't even change a tire. Congrats to both of you as well as your parents.
What an awesome video! The rest will go fast. Looking good and as wood is your fuel it should be stored in a perfect place, just like this.
Have a wonderful weekend! See you on the next video!
Now I can appreciate how much work goes into milling a log. Prices for lumber at the hardware store seem more reasonable now knowing what it takes if you wanted to do it yourself haha
I am so impressed with you both and also addicted to watching you.
How wonderful you are building the house.
And the vegetable garden is great. 🌷🥦🍅🥬😊🤗
Regular watcher, not a commenter. But came out pretty sweet. Looks clean and well built. Great job.
Wow....... it look soooo solid.... more then our roof... here!!! LOLOL... and our garden fantastic!!! Felicitation ..... you are # 1 guys!!!
Nice improvement you guys are solid don't burn yourselves out thanks for a day in the life and place save me a spot.
Scarf joint over the posts where two beams meet whould have been nice ! Really enjoying the content, good job on the videos and hard work

Looking great 👍
LOOKS GOOD!
So proud for you guys
Thanks for the inspiration for our own woodshed! We used the cut offs from the sawmill for the siding, and were able to salvage some metal roof from a hail damage barn.
It looks so good! I can't wait to see it finished.
Wow!!! Awesome job you two
Beautiful job!

Awesome guys.
Wow! Wood shed looks awesome!
Looks Great you two...
Wow looks really good!!!
Great job guys. Love this
That looks sooo awesome!!!
Excellent job! Looks great!
Small idea, on the milled side (back side) where your 4x6 beams come together add a strong tie, if the wood shrinks and shifts it should hold them together. Hurricane clips hold plywood sheathing together, those were truss hangers. But building lexica maybe diff from region to region. Great idea using shou-sugi-ban!! Preserves from weathering and insects!!
Nice carport/woodshed...love it!!
Love it!
Super cool
Those boards look great!
The shed looks great!
This shed looks GREAT!!
Great work guys!
It's looking good 👍
Nice and sturdy
That turned out great!
Looks fantastic, guys.
Looking good!!! Can’t wait to see the finished results!
great job on the woodshed something to be proud of!
Start collecting rebar, get a nice long 1/2 inch drill bit and you can drill a bigger hole (3/4) half way through the log for example and use a log home builders nail set (5/8 metal dowel) to set dowels (rebar) in large logs and pinning logs together will be a lot cheaper and open a lot of doors. that's comin from a log home builder, cool channel guys 😎 😎
Yes beautiful work , just love it
Love it... wow.. can’t wait the next episode 👍🏻
AWSUM JOB LOOKS GREAT
Great wood shed
