Alyssa is the real mvp in this video for not only leaving the house at night in weather but also doing the outdoor shots!
I hope Alyssa has gloves for doing video in this weather.
Haha. It was my first thought during the intro video. Props to her. My SO would not do it.
Yep, thumbs up for Alyssa ❤
Penney, you beat me to this comment. Kudos to Alyssa for contributing during these adverse working conditions.
@@NoobyTheBot She's a real one.
I am so proud to be one of the thousands of people who built the new Rivian factory. Amazing company all in america (Normal, Illinois). Amazing truck can't wait until the price comes down or I make more money!
WHERE'S THE SNOW PLOW
You deserve one … good luck and hopefully you will get one soon! Merry Christmas out of Switzerland 🇨🇭
EMF rating? Like how strong is it in the car vs a ice
When the snow dust kicks out the back, the rear fogs look like dual exhausts with flames shooting out! 🔥 🔥
thanks for the timestamp
Note to self: Don't park on the street in snowy conditions. With Kyle zooming around. 😂
@@anthonyarcher7268 definitely something they should keep in mind. I love seeing them have fun but it’s against CZcamss rules to upload videos breaking the law. Might get some of these videos taken down.
Also I know Kyle originally didn't want the white rivian but I think it looks great in every video he uploads
love the rear fog lights.. they look like a pair of after burners in the snow
Thanks, Kyle. This is very helpful. And thanks to Rivian for making the vehicle considerably safer.
Kyle, would you be willing to do a comparison video with the stock all-terrain tires vs your snow tires? If a video is too much production work, could you maybe just share some thoughts on how they compare to your snow tires? Do you think the all-terrain’s with snow mode would be adequate for a less severe environment than where you live? Great content, cheers!
Pro tip from someone living i the northern parts of Norway; Don’t heat the windshield so much, that way you dont get so much ice buildup on it😊
Really? What's the logic behind that exactly? My truck is the worst but the windshield heat is not great so it ices up.
Maybe more melting -> more water on glass -> more freezing? Haven’t heard this before, but makes sense!
@@a2jettagli When you heat up the snow it melts, and it's not warm enought to prevent it from freezing agian. And all the water from the snow you are melting is drawing in even more snow, that way you get the ice buildup. Just dont heat up the windshield at all and you will be fine :) works perfectly here in northern Norway where we have -5c to -15c.
@@RakodZ Jupp! The water is drawing in even more snow and makes it even worse.
Here before Kyle takes over.
You’re now the owner of Out of Spec. Congratulations sir
@@iMaxPatten Hello and welcome to my Out of Spec: Empire
Go ALYSSA!!! Glad he missed you every time!!! LOL love the snow videos - I'm in Miami :) 👍👍👍
SNOOOOOOOOW That looks so much fun and even better without a droning engine. So envious! 🥺
Frankly astonishing handling on those tires with the drift mode 😳
Again great dedication, going out in the freezing cold, kudos in particular to the exterior shots camera person.
Those tires are the real MVP of this video. They make all the difference.
Outstanding content Guys...Thank you both!
Great video - Thanks! Was curious to see how Snow Mode functioned. Hope my R1T gets here before winter ends!
Kyle & team, thanks for getting more metric into the videos! It would be awesome if you had the time to convert mi/kWh to Wh/km as text on-screen. That's the one data point I always fail to translate in my head when watching your videos (and I watch basically everything 😅)
@@anthonyarcher7268 touché 😄
The Hakkas void the Snow Mode review, it's a matter of whether snow mode can solve the woeful handling with the factory Pirellis.
Hey Man, I love your snowy EV videos! Greetz out of Switzerland 🇨🇭
Amazing and very informative testing.
Just got back from my 3rd trip to Hokkaido with our R1T this was a huge help up there, but do have to go between off-road and snow due to snow depth
Alright, now that’s some snow. You have my sympathies from central Alberta.
A side note, all season tires are okay but you must be careful until they warm up. Depends on your needs and budget.
Loved my Nokian Tires on my E350 Merc!
This is why I want the rivian for snow mode in the mountains. I'll definitely buy snow tires as well. Thanks for the video.
Ticket will be coming in the mail.
Impressive but it makes me appreciate the Kia EV6 driving mode on the steering wheel that lets me toggle into Snow mode (or Sport, Eco, or Normal) without looking at a screen. Also Kia’s Snow mode which is 2 years old almost has all these nice regen tricks for low mu conditions. And to get stability control off it’s another simple toggle button to the left of the steering wheel. Maybe buttons are a little less flashy than putting them in a screen, but I appreciate the more direct interface to the car’s settings.
Alyssa is an amazing filmer in all the videos❤
Kyle, love the wig, but put a hat on bud!!! I’m freezing just watching this!😂😂
That’s what I love about an electric truck! You can drive like a champ and know one hears.
thats super impressive
Lol, Kyle driving like an absolute maniac in a residential neighborhood and then saying FSD isn’t safe 🙃
I really hope someone does testing with the Pirelli ATs.
I want a Rivian for Christmas with that new snow mode 😅
I can't believe you're so cold while we're in the 50s here in Southern Colorado.
Thanks for staying up late for testing all the things, snow mode and all those chargers!
Can you comment on how the headlights do in the snow? I heard from many folks that because they're LED, they don't generate enough heat to keep the lights from getting coated over with snow/ice when driving in a snow storm, requiring frequent stops to wipe off the lights. I would also like a comparison with the 20" Pirelli AT in the snow/ice. Thanks!
Have you considered doing video solely on the main enhancement for the software updates?
Oooh amazing, I didn't know that you're very good 😊 👍 at drifting.
Hey where did you get the Snow Tires at? Did you have to get special rims and tires or can you just get any kind you want
If you could ask the question on how many amps are available for aftermarket accessories for the Rivian. Ford Lightning is limited to 55 amps at this time.
Kyle- would be interesting to test the Nokian Hakka 10 studded vs the LT3 studded. I had to get the LT3s for my new R1S because seems like a national shortage of Hakka 10s because of Russian manufacturing. Can you do a video comparing the two tires?
Please review how the F-150 Lightning handles driving in snow/ice conditions.
Looks like a really cool car . Whats the range?
This was great Kyle and Alyssa! Any chance you could provide some feedback on how (bad) these conditions would be in the stock A/T or 21" tires?
For example, us Cali people can't really use snow tires on the daily and the only times I would need it is when we go visit the mountains resorts. So it's either chains or triple peak A/T tires.
I wonder how much of an advantage the studded tires gave the new update.
I expect the benefit is huge. But I dunno on the Rivian. All I do know is that I've driven studded snows and all seasons on other vehicles, and there's a world of difference. Haven't driven the Nokian's, however.
Kyle- can you do a review of the stock Rivian Tires in snow…basically road vs all terrain. Are the all terrains that much better with the weight of the Rivian. Stopping and acceleration comparisons would be great.
13:11 How do your tires compare with the stock 20” A/T’s?
Kyle, do you have any info on the rear camera updates? I seriously can't believe they are this far in and I'm still looking at the inside edge of my tailgate when it's down. This is actually a serious safety issue and can't figure out why it was released with this problem. Thanks!
Have you got the Tesla vision update? I receive my last night haven’t drove it yet.
Another awesome review a lot of great information, too bad 85% of the population (me included ) can’t afford one but at least they’re developing the engineering to one day be able to bring that to the majority of the car driving population.
Let’s all hope Rivian , as a corporation can survive financially!
Another all-time low on their stock today.
Today, my model 3 (with winter tires) was drifting sideways even from a stand-still, the car is uncontrollable garbage. Usually thick ice is not slippery, but rainfall turned the ice slippery. This is not something that happens too often, but enough to make me consider studded tires. Excuse me, I'm still having high blood pressure from drifting like a message in a bottle.
15:28 That's great and all, but
the only thing you can be truly sure about, and count on, is the tires.
Eg: - what happens if one the modes/systems has a failure?
- what happens if multiple modes/systems have a failure?
- what it the thing goes completely offline?
Are there any failsafes built in to this vehicle?
How many miles are you averaging on a set of tires?
I was pretty happy with my Hakka R5s today, but my state sucks and makes studded tires illegal, so there is that.
Please make videos of your ice racing event.
Do you have a back up camera and rear sensor and also for the front,I have a 2019 ranger fx4 lariat I have 13,000 and I got it in 2019. I’m planning on the rivian, in 10 years. I want to enjoy the ranger, I live in California where there not going to sell gas cars in 2035.
Looks like a tight cabin. How is the space?
Interested to get a snow review on the stock 22's...
Would you consider having someone available to upload the video to CZcams of the incident after you crash driving like this? Deep snow ruts that will "steer" you into danger come up unexpectantly no matter who you are or what you're driving.
Honestly surprised this didn’t already exist? The Rivian CZcams channel has a cold weather testing video from a year ago, they really did all that before implementing snow mode?
Is he using sneakers with this weather? are those with battery operated heaters?
Lol. I'm shocked the neighbors don't call the cops on you guys.
#shenanigans
Stay Bold.
I wish I was brave enough to drive my rivian like Kyle does.
I have been impressed with the snow mode and new app features. Also, the proximity locking was mentioned in the update notes and I have to say, it seems much better after this update.
Controlled, Christmas donuts!!
I had a FJ55 with a Chevy 350 in Alaska with some good snow tires in 1996. I could punch it on fresh snow and it would just scoot. (open diffs)
I'd not expect less from a modern AWD car tbh.
Needs heated windshield wipers or fluid. I think heated windshields actually hamper visibility in the dark.
You need a full frame camera for the footage in the cab. Other than that 100% 👍👍👍
Damn, I knew I should have asked Santa for this truck.
Love to have one their new SUVs but just don't the money coinage to get but Subaru XV works just as well and zero issue's for the 5 years I had it
i wish i could have a electric car but i dont have that lifestyle, they look great tho, and imagine having solar panels at home so you can charge it for free, amazing
How does a Rivian compare to something like the best Subarus and Audis in the snow? Been a snowboarder my whole life and will likely wait for an R3 or R3X to come out in three to four years before replacing my Impreza Hatch. Thing is, my little Subaru will get me through 12-14" of powder no problem, even going uphill, with my snow tires. Assuming the Rivian is just as good, if not better?
Anyone live in a Western State or very snowy area who previously had a Subaru care to answer?
if you want better visibility, direct the air away from the windscreen. let it get real cold and the snow wont stick
The fact that someone would pay 100k for any vehicle is beyond me. my 1500$ buick is running just great in this cold colorado weather. All hail the Gm 3800 v6. :D solid engines.
He has a 100,000 model s plaid and Alyssa drives a 70,000 e tron
Good for you 🤷♂️
2:45 "... it makes the truck unstopable ..." 😱 Even with an emergancy brake? 🤔😉
its like a automatic torque converter then
Doesn't handle -4 guess I won't be getting one for Wisconsin winter, -20 right now.
Awesome video, I can't wait until rivian sells something for $40k, so we poors can own one.
The Rivian R1 Pauper spec is due out in 2050.
sure look good when just you out on street, try to drive when in highway with traffic, see how you handle.
i would say rivian has to be or at least has the potential to be the best stabilty control in the industry being the only 4 motor vehicle on sale ,
Very cold snow is like sand. Not as slippery. Experience all the time in the Adirondacks. Sure the truck will do great in any conditions.
Ps. We have a rivian
Kyle, can you grab a friend with a Rivian on AT tires and maybe one on the 21" road tires and do some side by side snow comparison testing against yours with the Nokians? Acceleration, stopping distance, etc? That would really help illustrate the effects of snow tires. Thanks.
It’s too bad there’s a winter tire shortage. Everything is all sold out.
Did you get some sleep?? Thanks for your dedication to EV and EV charging in cold weather testing.
Fun fact, -40 Celsius = -40 Fahrenheit...mind blown
In 2022, Rivian lost a staggering $6.8 billion; in 2021, it lost $4.7 billion; and in 2020, it shed another $1 billion, according to the filings. And the company reported it produced 24,337 vehicles and delivered 20,332 vehicles last year, meaning the company lost $33,087 per car delivered over the course of the entire year.
Your neighbors must love that 😂🫣🤣
I hope you can repeat these tests with stock tires. The 20” AT treads seem to do OK with deep/fresh snow but are hopeless with hard slippery surfaces without any winter compound. I have no hope for the 21s. Nokians are cheating :)
Big "no" vote to studded 7,000lb+ vehicles on public roads. I mean, the alternative would be to impose a tax on each tire for the cost of road repairs. I'm down for that too.
You should come to Texas and sweat
I wish Tesla would do this. My model y is terrifying in icy conditions with regen. You cannot disable it. 150 miles of freezing rain makes for a long long trip with such an oversight.
Apparently it reduces regen at lower temps, but I did not see such behavior.
In snow it works fine, but in ice it’s simply dangerous.
Good video, but smart Coloradans wear hats & gloves when it's -20°C and they want to keep their fingers, toes and noses.
Where can I buy a nose hat?
@@ItsEverythingElse You can use a balaclava or a baklava. The balaclava works better.😂
R1T’s need heated headlight lenses to melt off the ice and snow.
I'm a 47yr Autistic husband and father of 2 my wife has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer we love EVS but because of my wife's stage 4 metastatic breast cancer we can't afford one
Please dont stop the video so suddenly next time!
This is real simple, if it’s not charging , it’s not up and running. Period
Looks like Horsetooth Reservoir.
Surprised he's hooning in a neighborhood...
Very bad to do that in a neighborhood
Right - he should go find an empty parking lot.
No real range in the snow or towing
It's an EV.
@@ItsEverythingElse it's a rich's people toy
It's the middle of the night, you have a beautiful woman and a warm bed, are you insane?
