RE5R05A Transmission - P1757 Front Brake Band Solenoid Circuit

  • This unit had a solenoid trouble code. The transmission did have a lot of miles on it and there were 3 clutch pack burned in it. So a rebuild was done to it with a new torque converter. Although normal wear and tear will cause the transmission to fail, we still need to find out what has failed and follow the leads that the scan tool will reveal to you. In this case we had a solenoid code and needed closer examination.

    Dude I love you!!! You just saved me $1600. I did this myself at work today and it totally solved my problem. Although my shop foreman broke my tcc solenoid. But we were able to sort of fix that. I was so paranoid because I love my Xterra and even though I'm a tech, transmissions are WAY over my head. Thanks again!

    Hey Hiram, this was awesome. Saved me a fortune. Same exact fault. Stripped down and used some super flux to clean up and soldered a piece of copper support wire over the join. Been back in a couple of weeks now and working fine. Only cost me the replacement oil. Know another guy recently quoted NZ$2700 for a new TCM. This is not a repair that everyone would want to attempt but if you're a bit handy wasn't a big job. Separating the face plate off the TCM without breaking it was probably the most difficult bit. Fingers crossed this will be a permanent repair, I see no reason why not. Pathfinder has done 200,000km but looks like has been out before. Cheers.

      djkobafemi Hi, Yes used standard .7mm solder but used some super flux we've had for years which cleaned up the circuit tab really well. Used some .75 mm solid copper strand and put a small coil round the lower pin then soldered the circuit back in place then folded the copper wire over the top of the circuit and soldered it in place. Put a small amount of gasket silicone sealant over the tab when I put the cover back on to support it and help relieve any vibration in case this is actually the cause of the failure. Still running fine so fingers crossed.

      djkobafemi Good luck! Don't think id be going for third attempt, but at the replacement cost may be worth another try.

    you're a godsend for sharing this...
    my Xterra was running beautifully, I parked, started back up and found this same code.
    It shifts up all the way to 4th and cycles through the gears without issues, I then noticed it didn't go into overdrive and the SES (service engine) light lit up.
    I stopped, and realize it was still in fourth gear (hardly any power when throttling). if I turn off the key and restart, I find myself back in 1st gear and it does the same thing again when I get up on the highway. Bummer.
    I'm going to tear down the valve body and I'm hoping I find the same thing. I just don't know how this happened between parking for 10 minutes, coming back, and it not working correctly.
    Transmission rats.

      Pulled it apart, (the ATF fluid shower was much appreciated, warm and rejuvenating, good on the pores), disassembled and cleaned up the valve body's TCM, soldered up the broken connection nicely, threw it back together. Running like brand new. 140k miles.

      ***** Thanks for the reply. However, that's not what I wanted to hear! I did check the solenoid and didn't hear a click from it like the other two. I did an OHM check on it and it was open. I suppose the same advice applies?! I did read that the lockup clutch is a weak point on this tranny being a small one.
      How often do you get one of these to work on? Are you planning to make a video What are the typical problem areas? (I know that's a lot to ask and please feel free to pass on commenting.) Suggestions for locations to get my best bang for the buck on parts. This tranny has 300,000+ on it. Car looks and drives well for that amount of miles.

    • @philtowle4683
      @philtowle4683 Před 2 lety +1

      The early ones had external tcms and flexible wires. The solid ones on the internal tcm being solid get flexed slightly every time the solenoid fires. Eventually they break due to fatigue. A solid crimp type repair would be better if it could be done.

    Hi Hiram, Mi Xterra 2006 falló en Diciembre pasado y la lleve aun mecánico el cual le detectó 3 sensores defectuosos y me recomendó abrir la transmision para descartar fallas mecánicas y solo encontró la banda patinada. Al ensamblarla de nuevo y despues de ponerle los siete sensores arroja el codigo P1757, quiero pensar que se puede reparar mediante la técnica del video. Voy a llevarla a un taller a que le quiten el cuerpo de valvulas, hacerle las pruebas de continuidad y tratar de repararla yo mismo.
    Wish me luck..!!! Thanks a lot for the hints..!!!!
