  • Thousands of drivers out along Toronto-area highways are stuck in snow as a historic winter storm blasts southern Ontario on Monday morning.
In the morning, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said drivers were stuck in a standstill along Highway 401 eastbound around Keele Street and urged drivers to stay home.
“The biggest problem right now is the plows are stuck in this as well,” Schmidt said. “They can’t clear the highways, and you’re not going anywhere … if you’re stuck in traffic, you might be here a while.”
Environment Canada put Toronto, Peel York, Durham, Halton, Hamilton, and Niagara regions under a “blizzard” warning. That warning has since been lifted.

We're all supposed to stay home anyways these days on command of the Government of Ontario ... and this snow system was not a surprise.
Still, must be very frustrating and scary to be stuck in such snow but, at least these individuals are in a major city and could walk to safety if necessary.
The worst snow incident I ever experienced was on the 401 at Woodstock ON in Feb 2020. The snow fall was so intense that visibility was almost nonexistent and when I finally was able to get off the Road onto the rest stop, the facility couldn't be seen from 20 ft away.
Drive safe people and be well.
Post Statement (4:10 pm) - I just took a walk down to Lake Ontario (at Jarvis) and then stopped off at Loblaws. I saw a TTC bus completely abandoned on Lower Jarvis/Lakeshore, and no less then 4 cars stuck on Market Lane downtown. Otherwise, the core of Toronto is quiet, deserted and really scenic today :)

lol all the all-seasons tire people, DO NOT DRIVE TODAY IN THIS KIND OF SNOW. I KNOW FOR A FACT YOUR WHEELS WILL NOT WORK. IF YOU WANT TO BE STUCK, GO FOR IT. I work at a dealership, and I kno wfor a fact, in Canada, you need AWD featured on your car (always about $2000 extra for it on your vehicle) but my mentor taught me, if you have AWD and are on all-seasons tires, if may not be performing at its highest. if you're AWD and have WINTER TIRES on, you have a better chance. I feel like everyone who's stuck either has 1) has AWD but with no winter tires on 2) on a FWD vehicle is all seasons 3) orFWD with winter tires on. ---- all in all, the best way, is AW w/ winter tires in Canada. Othwerise, enjoy quarantining in your car until the plows show up. Bye!
