Started sodding about mixing with apps on my phone, then bought a bottom of range crappy controller and then wanted something better. I played around with the numark party mix, and carry it with me in my laptop case... it's great fun but limited of course. My friend suggested I upgrade to a pioneer, but let's be serious.. I'm not going to DJ at a big club, so controls that are laid out in an industry standard fashion aren't something I am even remotely concerned with. This is the best review I have seen so far. I pick up my platinum fx on Wednesday because of it... Numark has the fun factor missing from other brands. They know what a new or non pro dj is going to want and they deliver.
Now that Rekordbox 6 is $ub$cription only, yes this is the BEST entry level controller. Anyone who is going to upgrade gear later will be getting Serato Pro anyway.
It's not subscription only. I've been using it for the last week or so, and it's pretty good. You only need to pay a subscription if you want to mix from streaming sources. Also, if you have gear that activated rekordbox 5 it activates 6 as well. And 5 is still available, 6 installed along side it so I currently have both installed. That's not to say it'll keep getting updates for much longer as I have no way of knowing. But everyone is acting like it's pioneer-mageddon, but really nothing has changed as of yet. I do loathe the subscription model though and hope they see the backlash they've gotten as a sign to not move any further down that path. Edit: also you get way more packed in with rekordbox that the severely cut down serato dj intro. That pos doesn't even let you use every button on these "beginner" controllers, so if you want the full features you have to shell out $129 for pro. That's what swayed my decision when I got my ddj-400 over the sb3 and it still holds up in my opinion. That takes this beginner kit from $250 to almost $400!
Great review. The led metering the white led is your normal red clipping light. I would prefer green yellow and red though but with owning ns7 got used to it and no biggie really can clearly see why clipping and went to bring gain down still
I've been trying to add Loop Roll, Sensor, and Beat Jump to this controller, but have not figured out how to do so. You mentioned effects could be reassigned inside Serato. Can you explain how to do this? Thanks
thanks for the video, currently these are about $70nzd cheaper than the ddj400 at $579 from a local retailer. I have the ddj200 and like the play and cue buttons as there big and easy to push not to mention the free full software of rekordbox.... but I'm not pro, so I'm swaying towards one of these just on the pure build and spacious layout. what would be your thoughts??
Recently bought the Numark mixtrack pro fx. Had to send 2 of them back. Controller wont connect with computer. Used on both windows and apple no difference. I own ns7iii and nvii both working as it should

Also it comes with full record box software but numark just comes with serato lite so u have to pay more to get serato pro and unlock full functions. Look up CZcams video ; insect rave , by Chris luno or highway house mix Chris luno. It’s on pioneer 400 and is dope 🙂😎
Did you end up getting VDJ functional for the controller? I am picking it up and also prefer VDJ, but I don’t want to push it if the mapping doesn’t fit. I also use Mac so I’m skeptical. At the end of the day, I’ll use whatever works most smoothly.

Both Mixtrack Pro FX and Platinum FX have Native Support with Algoriddm DJay Pro for the iPad! (which means you have subscribe to DJay app to run the controller)

Ive had this for over a week,y problem is scratch mode doesn't work!! What's going on? Any help?
Had my platinum FX for about a week and i'm more than happy. It was a toss up between this and the ddj-400.....think i made the right choice.
mine is arriving on Wednesday been out of the scene for a couple of years now I'm back used to have an NS6 Numark

it better. than the 400 and it has larger wheels than a 800$ pioneer controller
I am just waiting for my speakers so I can be rockin it was very hard for me too between this one or the 400 I think I made the right choice

I heard a DJ who does major festivals use these as backup controllers. He says they are the closest you can get to pro in a budget range.
