    Just purchased a numark mixtrack could not be happier, first mix sounded like it was out of a club. If you are planning on manual beatmatching DO NOT I repeat do not buy a pioneer entry level controller, the pitch faders on them are so small and sensitive it's a beyond a joke and the DDJ-SB3 doesn't even have a cue mix button for mixing through your headphones
    late at night. The ddj 400 has a cue mix knob but the pitch faders are still pathetic. The numark doesn't have as many features as far as effects go but who cares you can still access them through serato. Dont make the same mistake I did!!!! Thank you numark!!!!

    Wow man, that was a bad ass comparison. You laid everything out really well and did a great job of comparing and contrasting. Didn't make it any easier LOL. I'm getting a DJ controller for my birthday. I'm not a beginner, as I've owned controllers in the past, but life happened and I had to make ends meet. I'm in a much better place now, so going to start DJ'ing again as I need another hobby. I'm traditionally a Pioneer person. Love Rekordbox, and always love Pioneers quality. When I thought about buying one last month, the DDJ-400's weren't available anywhere, and saw the Numark as a great alternative. Just reading about it I started to really like the device, and didn't mind switching to Serato; in fact, it gave me an excuse to switch software platforms. But seeing that both are now readily available.... wow what a tough decision. Almost not fair LOL. For me however, since I'm just in it to have some fun and make mixes to listen to in the car (not trying to make a career comeback LOL but that would be cool), I'm going with the Numark. It lacks in effects yes, but I only ever use 2 or 3 anyway. Yeah, I know I limit myself, but I'm kinda conservative when it comes to the mix. I'm in it for the natural blend of things. Not sure how to explain it, but I was never big on effects, partly because the gigs I would play back in my hay days would have simple mixers. So, lots of blending, phasing, double drops etc. While the Pioneer would give me an excuse to experiment with effects, I can't get past that major feature you pointed out on the Numark, and it just sells it to me lol. Those awesome jog wheels with the display and that nice long tempo adjust. For me, that makes the controller. I've always been impressed with the Pioneer jog wheels, don't get me wrong. But those high end large platters with the display and the tempo adjust LOL, thats all I really need. So my choice, Platinum FX. But still, really close. I could buy the Pioneer and be fine with it. I'd eventually forget about the jog wheels haha. Both are at an excellent price point like you explained. But having high end jog wheels at this price point, and I don't have to spend 800$ to get them; I'll take it...

    This settles my mind a bit. I have been using the DDJ 400 for a week now after a 20 year gap from using vinyl. So far I have found it quite intuitive for basic mixing of 90's house and trance (start from where I left off). Never before have I had effects and always wanted it as a bedroom DJ them years ago. Will be fun learning.
    I did see the numark one later on and wondered if I had made the right choice with the DDJ, those jog wheels with the displays do look good though.

    This seems a lil of personal preferable hardware. You try to point things that favor pioneer. The layout is such a childish point because all of us can adapt. The software, serato is more powerful than rekordbox. Numark has features from pro's hardware, pioneer has just a name, but numark has the less equipment in service so is more durable. Don't get in brand trap. You say about beginners DJ but you promote creativity that is required lots of experience so, this comparison is subjective from you.

The Numark and Serato were easy to understand, plus I previously owned Numark equipment before so the transition was smooth. I own a Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX and is definitely my choice over the Pioneer...all 8 pads are unlocked when used with serato pro, the display in the jog wheels alone outshines the pioneer and added to that is the 4 inch pitch controller...the Numark Platinum has been rated the highest out of all controllers that came out within that same price range...my brother has the ddj 400 and after using mine he is changing over to the mixtrack platinum FX...no way the ddj400 matches up to the mixtrack platinum fx..not even close

    The Numark utilizes all 16 pads for cue and looping in Pro, but the effects are a bit cumbersome because you have to go to the laptop to assign anything other than dedicated buttons. I’m a Denon guy but they don’t offer an entry level at that price. I miss my mc7000 that I had to sell. The Numark is solid and fun to use, but it has some things I will never use like fader cuts and skip buttons. I would rather have the roll feature.

  • @darc_harmoni4828

    The Roland DJ202 is the pick at less than $300 but I already had one and wanted something different. I’m satisfied with the choice I made. The Pioneers that I have played in the stores always seem kinda weak on build. The Roland is super solid. The Numarks have come a long way, but ultimately Denon is the future. Prime 4, Prime Go, etc. The pro stuff and Engine software is awesome!

    I'm not a scratch dj(yet) but in my opinion if you we're this would be perfect for you as a portable all in one solution(with a lappy) but having the ddj200 already, after seeing this for $100 cheaper in my country(NZ) than the 400 software and pro pads features aside... I'm leaning towards the under dogs(other being the Hercules 500)

  • @dannybwalker
    @dannybwalker Před 4 lety +3

    Pertaining to the pad functions on the platinum if you upgrade to serato dj pro instead of 4 hot cues you'll get 8. Would like to get that cleared up. Also on the effects function the effects pads on the platinum can be changed to other effects from what is labled on it.

    • @KizawaDJ
      @KizawaDJ  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes these are true, once you upgrade to Serato DJ Pro. Which doesn't come straight out of the box, unlike the functions on the DDJ-400. This review is made strictly for beginner DJs who will more than likely stick with the out of the box versions for a while. There are only 6 FXs in serato DJ lite, so you wouldn't be able to change them until you pay the $120 upgrade, which a beginner wouldn't do straight away.

    @DMulabiTalejan Před 4 lety +12

    Thanks for the vid. But the sloppiest argument in DJ gear is this crap about CLUB STANDARD lay-out. Please, call it PIONEER STANDARD! And then you call it an advantage. Oh dear me. One of the the ultimate tests of any DJ is to be able to play on anything Vis the ultimate failure of DJing is to be a slave to one system, and get stranded when they change the players! What happened to the DJ profession? When i learnt to DJ in 2000 during the times of twin CD players, i would visit friends with faulty players (sometimes you would find the cue button dead) but you would fiddle around and bring out smooth blends.... At a very minimum, as long as a DJ knows where the play, cue, pitch bend/slide/sync button is, unfamiliar layout should only be an issue to an learner. Of course tech has moved, but the point is, LAY OUT arguments should be on the way out!

    • @KizawaDJ
      @KizawaDJ  Před 4 lety +4

      I can see your point of view. I do however believe that their is an argument to be had about the club standard layout. Yes an experienced DJ should be able to transfer skills across any piece of equipment. My point was simply if you are a brand new DJ and you want to get in clubs as quickly as possible then the quickest way to do that is with the 400. Of course once you have been DJing for one year or more then you should be able to learn a new piece of equipment in a matter of minutes. I did make a point in the video of saying that you can still progress to clubs using other systems. But I do still believe that it is a valid point.

    I have to correct you about the effects on the Platinum FX. You actually still have the use of all the effects in Serato DJ Pro as well. Also, when you have Serato DJ Pro, you have all 8 pads active. Seems like you reviewed the Platinum FX a little too fast without thoroughly checking it out. As for the layout of a controller based on the club standard. I would guess you would've upgraded before becoming a club DJ. Truth be told, there are probably a lot more mobile DJs than club DJs. As for creativity, that will also depend on what type of DJ you are and the genre of music you play. I honestly don't know why you're comparing the Platinum FX with the 400. The Platinum FX is actually under priced for what you get. The 400 probably should be compared to the Mixtrack Pro FX, which is $200. In my opinion.

      But for a 12 year old Serato Lite would definitely be better. Just bare in mind that you'll probably have to upgrade to the full version after a couple of months because you'll need more features

    You wrong about the amount of pads on the Numark. It only has 4 pads in the lite version of Serato. It has 8 on Serato Pro.
    Also you cannot rate a player based on the club standard layout. Apart from those it was good.

  • @sunlbx

    well yes, numark absolutely kills it!
    jogs are better and bigger, the lcds on the jogs are a top feature and FX paddles are simply kickass. the filter knobs on the numark are super as well as the pitch faders! the pioneer loses on all these criteria, and thus is weak in comparison. If it didn't bear the name "pioneer" it would be lost in the sea of generic controllers, even the round play button in the "industry standard place" woldn't help it sell better. Sometimes it feels like people are paid to blindly praise the inferior product which is overpriced

    So you did a comparison not even touching them or seeing how the FX system of the P FX really works? and Serato DJ Pro solves most of your complaints. Dude this is like me doing a comparison of Lamborghini Aventador and Chrosn because I drove my friend's cars once...

    Wow bro you need to do more research if you’re a newbie making videos. No, the paddles didn’t come from Numark it was actually a creation of Pioneer in the early 2000s. They had a flagship FX module called the EFX500 that was popular with Hip-Hop DJs that had a paddle, and they only had one update, the EFX1000 before the DJM500 and 600 took off. Eventually Pioneer brought the paddle back on the DJM S9, a battle style mixer for Hip-Hop DJs. Numark has a mixer that copies this design called the Scratch, and this controller replicates that design.
    Jesus man.

    • @dooshmasta
      @dooshmasta Před 4 lety

      Also regarding the point about not having to turn the FX on and off, Numark had touch capacitive knobs on many of their earlier controllers so that you can turn FXs on when you’re touching the knob and letting the knob go to turn it off. The NS7ii and the NV had this feature. This is not new for Numark.

    • @KizawaDJ
      @KizawaDJ  Před 4 lety +13

      I never said that Numark created the paddle system. I said that they took it from their over products, which is true. I said that it is unique to controllers, which is true. I did plenty of research for this video and many others. That's why all my statements are factually correct.
