A dynamic new collaborative work from transatlantic singer-songwriter Zoe Mulford and acclaimed vocal band Windborne! Written, arranged, and recorded just before the pandemic stopped all travel and in-person events performing, so we are excited to bring you this "virtual choir" music video.
We five singers met at Zoe’s home in Manchester at the end of Windborne’s UK tour in March. Over the course of two whirlwind days, we crafted an arrangement and recorded the track. Windborne then returned to the US just before the Coronavirus hit Europe. By the end of the month, everyone was in lockdown and the song took on new relevance as COVID-19 began to wreak havoc on the entire world. Zoe writes, “I had no idea when I wrote the song how much grief would be going around by the time the recording was released. Even the best words are never enough, but this is what I’ve got.”

I am fortunate to have known Zoe since childhood, and she knew my mother. She will be performing this song at my mother's Celebration of Life in June.

Love this song - the lyrics and the harmonies you've arranged. This would be a nice informal addition to the sacred harp repertoire - it has the right harmonies and the text fits, even though not religious. Would anyone in your group set this in 4-shape notes? I don't have that capacity myself but would love to sing it with my sacred harp friends.

Would it be possible to get a sheet music copy of this song/arrangement? Last year i had the solemn honor of co-producing a memorial sing-along for late folklorist, English adjunct extraordinaire, and member of my contra dance community's house band Morgianah Halley, and the opportunity to learn and lead some truly great songs for the occasion... after doing so, i'd want this song to be sung at my own memorial some day.

Lovely song. I disagree, however, that songs stay sung. They must continue to be sung so they don't languish and die. We must teach the good ones to new generations. As a song leader and transmitter of traditional songs for over 50 years, I know that to be a hard fact of life.
