I've been singing this song for years, I was a "Lean and Unwashed Tiffy" in the Royal Navy, and all of Cyril Tawney's songs resonate with me. When you hear the phrase in the song "blue waters turn to green" it just evokes memories of standing on the quarterdeck watching the wake of the ship and when you see the water turn to green you know you are nearly homers. If you haven't heard a lot of Cyril's songs you are missing out. Lyrics are so poignant and evocative, although very simple musically.

Pretty nice. The apparent lead singer needs to dial back and blend in more for balance. She's overdoing the sobbing vocal flourishes, especially with lyrics which emphasize the monotony of a long voyage. The best version of this song I've heard so far is Maddy Prior and June Tabor.
