  • Over Memorial Day weekend in 1987, Star Wars was celebrating its 10th Anniversary. To commemorate such a milestone, a convention was held in Los Angeles called, “Starlog Salutes Star Wars-A 10th Anniversary Tribute to George Lucas and the Galaxy Far, Far Away Which He Created!” We prefer the title - Star Wars Celebration 0.
Only a few thousand fans attended, as opposed to the tens of thousands that attend these past Celebrations. I was there and took this video of George Lucas.

I'm in line at around 2:32 with my step-dad, Johnny Carter, who has since passed away. I'm stooped down on the ground from standing in line so long while my step-dad has his head turned towards the camera. It was a rather cool day. I had not come prepared for the cool weather. We left that night to return home in Georgia to very hot weather. I had to get home in order to graduate from high school. This was a once in a lifetime event to see George Lucas along with other people who made the original Star Wars movies. The surprise was the appearance of Gene Roddenberry. These were some good memories.

I was there that Sunday on Memorial Day weekend. I was a sophomore in Hi-school. We all signed a giant poster of C3PO and R2D2 for George. Then waited forever to see Mr. STAR WARS and also Gene Roddenberry. I managed to get SFX supervisor Richard Edlund and SW producer Gary Kurtz autographs too.

42:50 “Shall I be included in future Star Wars movies... or shall I exist as nothing more than a fictional thing to the hopes and dreams of bad little children?” Did Vader just predict his roles in the Prequel AND Sequel trilogies?

My brother and friend attended. Drove down from NorCal. We went to the Anthony Daniels panel and checked out the prop room with the Ark of The Covenant in it. First time seeing cosplay (wasn't called that back then) as well. We took home black balloons that said Star Wars on them. Unforgettable.

I was there as well. I remember seeing a film I believe USC students created. They edited clips from the Star Wars movies to the audio of Duck Dodgers and the 24 1/2 Century cartoon. It was hilarious! Does anyone else remember this or maybe it was at some other con? I've been hoping to find that film somewhere on the internet but haven 't had any luck.

Omg! That’s me. About 45 seconds into this video I’m in the princess Leia Bespin costume holding hands with my friend who is in the Han Solo Empire strikes back costume. Oh my gosh I was 19!

That’s awesome! I remember you. At that point there wasn’t anyone else dressing up as Bespin Leia, so you definitely stood out

In 1987 I wasn't even thinking about Star Wars anymore. Just watching Spaceballs. 😂

@@SkywalkingThroughNeverland I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but if you were a kid in the 1980s, it had almost faded away from the culture 3 years after ROTJ. It resurged around 1989 when the cheap VHS tapes came out, and then within a couple years the Dark Empire comic and Heir to the Empire novel came out.

I remember 1987 was the 10th anniversary of the release of Star Wars, before the prequels, and before The Mouse 🐁 loused everything up.

1:04:45 so people knew about the deleted scenes with Biggs. I guess from a magazine with behind the scene photos?

The pictures were in a lot of magazines and books. Then as time went on we learned that they were deleted scenes.

Star Trek did provide some conceptual foundation for Star Wars, but Forbidden Planet has connections to both and Lost In Space.
The term "Blaster" for a firearm was Forbidden Planet., The DC Station visually predated the Transporter, Bob Kinoshita designer Robbie and B-9.
