I will
I'm aware of the dangers of going sober cold turkey and will be monitoring my health closely. If for some reason I have to end up tapering off (drinking small amounts of alcohol to avoid the more serious physical withdraw symptoms) then I will, and I'll be honest about it. I'll just have to extend my sobriety to make up for those lost days.
We support u bro
Keep that mindset Rusty, we support you in this new journey.
I consider you very strong and inteligent person that has the hability to overcome the tribulations of life. Take care ♥️

Imo meetings can be super helpful in the first stages of sobriety, like when people are at their rock bottom and just desperately need help. Having that kind of community of people around who have been where you are and got better is incredibly helpful.

i’ve smoking weed everyday for a couple years, my anxiety which was why i was doing it only got worse, i’m on day 3 of being sober right now.

While in Recovery I learned drinking and drugging were not my “problem” they were my “half assed solution” of “self medication” and once I focused on what made me want to use, I like many found my true issues under mental health issue(s) that went undiagnosed and misdiagnosed for most of my life. It took me a long time to get to that “breakthrough moment” but after almost everything made sense and I had felt like I used a sledgehammer for a headache. I hope you find some peace through your journey. I believe in you and wish you the best. I'm glad your not letting the bottle dictate your life any longer. Time is very precious. Spend it wisely. Good luck!
Me too! I thought I was an alcoholic, a crack head, pill head, ect but I just needed WHATEVER numbed my pain. It's crazy how full circle everything is, especially when it comes to mental health.
to anyone who says "just 30 days," please, reconsider before saying that to *anyone.* you dont know how hurtful it is to belittle what they really see as an accomplishment, what really *is* an accomplishment. chances are, you really dont know what it's like
Honestly, you'd probably sound a lot better telling them it's gonna be near complete hell, at least that's an acknowledgement of their struggle to come and recognition that they really are unfortunate to be where they are and that their situation isn't as easy as just wanting it done and then it's done
Still, 30 days is fucking nothing. If you can manage to survive 2 weeks you can manage whatever period you desire. After being on and off the coaster multiple times, 30 days really becomes a small walk in the park. Depending on how dedicated u are and how much self control you have it's only the 2 first weeks that hit the hardest. After that it's pure fookn self control
Yeah plus 30 days could become a lifetime for people who feel any benefit from their sobriety.
@@tunod- I mean, by that same token, if you have the self control to make it easy then are you even really an addict? If quitting is so easy for someone then maybe it wasn't drinking that was ruining their life, maybe that hypothetical person is just a fuck up or a terminal lightweight.
I used to drink a lot. For years. Then one day I just sort of stopped. I could do that because I didn't have a physiological issue with drinking, not because I had an iron will. So I wouldn't compare my experience to someone else's, even as a way to encourage them. That being said, this video is several months old at this point. I'm sure he did fine.
@Grace McDade I guess it depends on the person. I dont mean to be shit but I've seen people having serious withdrawals and I never understood how that's even possible.
I drank daily for 2+ years, 2 bottles of whiskey and 1 bottle wodka a day, also smoked drugs for 7+ years and one day just quit doing both. Besides the no sleep for a few weeks I never had any problems.
To me an addiction is more like a habit. Youre used to drinking every day so you'll feel weird not doing it. Its no different than brushing your teeth. Find something else to replace that habit. And I still believe that once you make it past the first 2 weeks youre gonna feel much better mentally and physically so much that you dont want your streak to end.
Im also of opinion that quiting isnt beating an addiction. Moderation is. Like... today I will drink and tomorrow I wont without any trouble. That kind of mentality. Nowadays I only drink during special occasions and I never want to go back to what I used to be. Life was so depressing last year because of it.
Any way if youre struggling, I wish you the best of luck. And if you want to quit don't start with the thought that you'll quit forever. Try thinking I'll do it for just a day. Or two. No need to make it any harder for yourself. Make it past two days and drink a glass if you must, just try to keep the bottles down.
It is sober October you’ll have a few others to join with you

I wish you luck, Rusty. This can't be an easy thing to overcome.
Right. In my case, it's the opposite. I'm so annoying when I drink. I just become a 10x worse version of my current self, so I've grown to hate being drunk. But when i'm alone, being drunk can make me feel better sometimes.
So, I only really drink occasionally because I love the taste of alcohol (I love strong flavours and so vodka is my favourite.)
When I'm drunk, I only analyse things to an even more excessive degree and similarly to rusty's case, where he comes up with better ideas when drunk, I come up with better theories and answers regarding the things I over-analyse.
Not a very healthy default mindset to be in, but I can't exactly help it.

Is it strange that I drink half a bottle of vodka and still be totally sober, but I haven't really drank too much outside of social events. I also can find it super easy to kick habits and adictions
@@astafire6810 here's the crux: It may be strange to others but I can relate. I'm the same way. I'm 200lbs and usually have an impregnable tolerance. My tolerance does tend to sway though. One event I'll be able to down a bottle of captain morgan and get a little buzzed, then the next even I just won't get intoxicated at all. Tolerance, however, is measured in how drunk you feel, not how drunk you actually are if that makes sense. You may not feel drunk but some motor functions may be impaired. As it is proven, one drink can effect your driving, so just because you drink alot and don't feel drunk, just do everyone around you a favor and don't drive lol.
@@smudgytv9536 I know, if I ever drink, I always lock my keys away, so I can't easily drive my car, I've got too much sense to drink and drive lmao. But I've been told that the amount I drink doesn't ever show in how I walk, talk, act ect

Alcoholism ran deep in my family. My dad grew up being physically abused by his drunk dad. I grew up being verbally abused by my drunk dad. I was depressed from 18-21 and took up drinking and taking pills to numb myself. Eventually slowed way down on my drinking and quit pills but when my girlfriend and I met ~7 years ago I started drinking a bit more. When we would drink a lot, we would always fight. I found myself saying mean shit to her or to my friends. I'd usually catch myself and have flashbacks to my dad being a prick to me and apologize or make sure to lighten up but the fact that I saw that in myself was a bit terrifying. Decided I didn't want to raise my kids to fear me at night like feared my dad. In the past 5 years I've only had probably 10 days where I've had a drink and it's always been a ton of fun. The very occasional day of drinking while golfing with friends or playing poker is great. Drinking every night regardless of your plans? Not so good. I know this video is years old but I hope Rusty has a good handle on his drinking now. The addiction really sneaks up on you.

My grandad had a stroke about 10 years ago due to alcohol and smoking a lot. Was the most active person i knew would routinely walk through all the city about 12 kilometers to pick me up at school, race trams from stop to stop running, fastest skier, basketball player and history enthusiast. The stroke left him unable to walk, no matter how he tried he didnt recover. I still see his quirkiness and kindness, but also sadness and the feeling of being powerless at times, sometimes it feels like he became a different person. While growing up he always told that what he did was the "wrong thing" and i never wanted to smoke and drink even more so after the accident. Guess it was a way to relax for him after intense training sessions, like for you. The gist is he still has the same gift he did but he is completely unable to use it due to a body condition. I play music too and one of the most terryfying things for me is that someday i something like that will happen and i just would not be able to express the feeling. While i was not an addict i had very serious problems with depression for me the way to get my lazy unwilling self together was a session or 2 of 20 minute meditation daily. Meditation is hard and sometimes really sucks but it got me where i am today with some help. Don't be afraid or think that you'll do without people who care about you, ask for help and embrace the suck of the situation, if it were easy everyone would be doing it the hard way.
Good luck on your journey from a russian harmonica enthusiast)
I read it all, to your grandad rest in peace...
God bless
@@Kztten i don't really think he said that his grandad passed away...
Much love♾
The grandad is doing fine, i visit him as often as i can. Sorry if it was vaguely written
proud of you for trying this! this kinda hit home for me. have been in a very similar situation but when i was in my mid 20s i had to move back in with my mom (for entirely different reasons, landlord and trouble with room mate issues) and that immediately made me stop the whole "drinking on my own just because i can" thing. i didnt want her to see that. she doesnt drink. now its become very manageable even after living on my own again
I hope you're doing better now. You're a strong one for admitting you have a problem with something and even stronger for putting so much effort in changing both your psychological and physical health for the better. I'm pretty sure we're all proud of you in this comment section.
This video also inspired me to work harder to fight my own shitty addiction so best of the bestest of luck,I'm sure you'll make it.
I used to be a fan, but after watching THIS masterpiece, I'm a whole air conditioner

Hey man, congrats. Im gonna be 29 this year, 5+ years sober now. If I ever drink again it will probably ruin my life, it gets a lot easier the longer you go. I really hope your able to make it to the 30 days, don't let me down man, I'm rooting for you!
I genuinely wish you the best of luck, ive been around alchoholics, and those trying to change, its rough from all ive seen secondhand, at least for them. Lub ya
hey man i've been really liking your newer content and your storytimes. I know you hate those types of videos but idk if I speak for myself saying this but the new content just feels like you're able to have a bit more fun with your life and we are tagging along for the ride. Good luck with the long month. I hope you turn out happier in the end
Good job man, stay strong on this journey,
Good luck dude, It wont be easy. Don't hesitate to seek help if the depression and anxiety gets worse or does not go away. Often times Alcoholism is a symptom of another issue and know many other people are fighting the same battle. I know I am.
Mad respect for you man, glad to see you going for the self improvement
My grandpa was a very very big alcoholic, he was a drunk from about 14 to 70. because of this alcoholism, he left my dad at a very young age, and I, myself, wasn't allowed to see him. he was in and out of sobriety, and I believe the longest he went was 14 months. not too long ago (I'd say a few years) he died on the floor of his apartment, drowning in his own filth. many times before this he had attempted to kill himself, but this time it was the alcohol that did him in. im not exactly sure how it works, but I believe it runs through the family; my dad is also an alcoholic, and therefore I took it from him. its not nearly as bad as your situation or even my dad's, but I can feel it getting much worse in the future for me. I drink often when everyone's asleep. I'm glad to see you trying to fix a bad habit rusty, been watching you for a long ass time. I just wanted to let you know that we'll all be here with you through this roughness, I believe you can do it :)

The dislikes on this video are all the alcohol companies that Rusty bought alcohol from being mad because they lost one of their customers again-
Constumers? You mean consumers, right?
@@MysterySand
No I mean customers-
Not consumers-
Customers are people that buy things from a business of sorts.
I said alcohol companies- idk if you were tryna make a joke or not but wat you just typed made no sense
@@-PandemicCreations- sorry, misread your comment
@@MysterySand
It's fine just if you're gonna respond to a comment that you get confused with re-read the comment before you type
@@-PandemicCreations- to be fair, you spelled customer as costumer, so you shouldn't be offended, because all I was doing was trying to correct a mistake, so don't you get pissy with me
Watching this video is really opening my eyes to some stuff. I can't say that i'm able to go a month like you are, but you certainly have given me a bit of motivation to try and lessen this habit and i thank you for that. I am 20 years old and i have been drinking for 4 years heavily and i hope that i'll be able to get on the path on which you are now. It's a bit late to comment since it's been a year but nevertheless thank you Rusty. I wish you a good and healthy life.
You got this buddy! I'm glad you're taking that step. I look forward to seeing you're progress!
I tend to find remembering that drinking isn’t a normal part of a natural human life helps, a lot of people have no problem drinking all the time so they make it look normal and then it becomes normal for you too. My brother is an alcoholic and I would drink with him everyday which lead me down a dark path. All I had to do is remember back to younger days when I wasn’t drinking everyday and return to that mindset. It can be extremely difficult though.
...you could argue that alcohol consumption actually is pretty natural though. when berries get slightly too old on a vine, in nature, they contain enough alcohol to get birds and small animals a little bit buzzed.
those berries might have some other funky natural forming substances in there too though, not just drinking alcohol. they might have a little bit of what's basically natural vinegar, or some kind of bacteria, but not every time.
QueWhyEs I’m 21 and I didn’t even drink for my 21st birthday
Actually some hypothesis indicate that alcohol may have been the main reason why we decided to stop being nomadic which in turn allowed us to increase food production and expand our Inteligence and life expectancy so it is quite natural. All in moderation though.
@@nicolaferreira396 uhhh what?
@@lezanji1884 Some relatively recent paleontological hypothesis indicate that one of the main reasons human beings stopped being nomadic was so that they had an easier access to specific fruit for alcohol production. This in turn led to the other kinds of agricultural production that allowed us to feed a larger populace. Under this interpretation I think its fair to say drinking alcohol is quite a natural thing to do. Also let's not forge that alcohol consumption for most of human reason had the valid reason of being drank as water sources were frequently filled with disease and on top it was the best way to store water for voyages and travels
well congrats i'm proud of u for addressing your problem and taking action
i just moved to a small town trying to get sober, im happy to be on this journey with you and the rest of everyone recovering
Glad to see after being a huge rusty cage fan for a few years that one of my favorite people is helping himself and taking care

I got a stella ad
I had an ouzo ad
King of beers baby, good shit
Cheers, I'll drink to that bro.
EDIT: After watching all the way through, I sincerely apologize. I did not realize that this was a serious video. Good luck rusty! Wish you the best of luck.
Wasn’t familiar with your content before this, but this definitely spoke to me, seems like you definitely have your head on straight. I’m kinda in “recovery” I guess too. I really fucked my life up with alcohol and coke about 2 years of basically daily use of both. Ended up getting arrested then going to a 90 day rehab program. Honestly AA is pretty much a cult but does help a lot of people including myself in some ways. More from the fellowship than rhetoric. I support ya man. I know how long the 30 days will seem and hope you can get through the withdrawals without major side effects. I got 106 days sober before relapsing (just on weed though) and gained 43lb & got some definite peace of mind, although sobriety can be super tough it’s worth it for sure. I’ll be following your vids for sure! Best of luck brother
You can do it rusty!!! I wish you the best and I wish you luck!!

I'm 21 yo, been drinking from 16 yo almost daily, I don't think I've got more than a 10 days straight without drinking in all these years. The first 3-4 years I was in denial, never acknowledged my problem, always threw lies like I wasn't drinking enough to be an alcoholic, but as the time passed, the quantity began to grow. I started from a bottle of wine a day, to 4-5 liters of beer per day, to a bottle of whiskey / vodka per day. But I never drank enough to be drunk, as in pass-out state, or in a 'losing balance' state, I just drank from morning till dark, small amounts, enough to get me dizzy and enjoying the day that I'd otherwise wouldn't.
Its not easy to quit something that was with you daily, especially when all the people around you don't know that you're struggling with that. I'm 8 days sober now, I'll probably fail like I did many times before, but it's always worth the try. I hope you make it rusty, good luck to you.
I've got my fingers crossed for you my dude. Best of luck
@@Timbobjr Thank you !
I'm 29 been drinking alot for 8 years. I got sober 4 other times since December 2019. The withdrawls keep escalating. So I quit for good and I am now 19 days sober for the 5th time trying. My body finally can't handle it anymore. And my liver is damaged quite alot. So I've learned how to have fun being sober, and I'm getting alot of things done that I otherwise neglected because of .y drinking.
Addiction is the worst thing I've ever had to go through.

The Angry Introverted Scotsman: he is stopping an addiction but not giving up drinking
@@Zener26Diode he's not gonna curb his addiction by stopping for a month, I'm talking from experience here, as an addict you just can't moderate.
The physical addiction might go away, but the mental addiction stays with you for life. The only way to keep yourself in check is to not use at all. I know, cause I've been telling myself the same lie for years now. "I can moderate, I can keep myself in check" and you succeed at first, and maybe for a few months you're able to stick to it, but then slowly you'll start spiraling out of control again. First a little drink on mondays because "well it's basically still the weekend", to a drink on tuesdays too, cause "why not", escalating until you're getting wasted every day again and at some point years later you wake up and wonder where the fuck your life went.
I really hope he's going to be able to realize that, and act accordingly. I know I'm still fighting it every day, so I wish him the very best of luck.
Wholesome isn't cheesy. What you are doing isn't something that some people enjoy and others cringe to. You are supporting a man trying to break an addiction. You are a good man, thank you.
God this gives the song the grave so much more meaning
This showed up in my recommended at a perfect time, I am a few days late to join the journey, but November, will be my sober month. I'm only 21 years old, and this video hit everything that I am currently going through. Y'all hold me to this, I need to fix this problem before it gets worse.
It's hard but it gets better after a while dude. As long as you make shure you don't go back to every day or even most days after that month has passed..
