    I'm aware of the dangers of going sober cold turkey and will be monitoring my health closely. If for some reason I have to end up tapering off (drinking small amounts of alcohol to avoid the more serious physical withdraw symptoms) then I will, and I'll be honest about it. I'll just have to extend my sobriety to make up for those lost days.

    • @tunod-
      @tunod- Před 3 lety

      Still, 30 days is fucking nothing. If you can manage to survive 2 weeks you can manage whatever period you desire. After being on and off the coaster multiple times, 30 days really becomes a small walk in the park. Depending on how dedicated u are and how much self control you have it's only the 2 first weeks that hit the hardest. After that it's pure fookn self control

    • @Seth10Nov1775

    • @fematrailer
      @fematrailer Před 3 lety

      @@tunod- I mean, by that same token, if you have the self control to make it easy then are you even really an addict? If quitting is so easy for someone then maybe it wasn't drinking that was ruining their life, maybe that hypothetical person is just a fuck up or a terminal lightweight.
      I used to drink a lot. For years. Then one day I just sort of stopped. I could do that because I didn't have a physiological issue with drinking, not because I had an iron will. So I wouldn't compare my experience to someone else's, even as a way to encourage them. That being said, this video is several months old at this point. I'm sure he did fine.

    • @tunod-
      @tunod- Před 3 lety

      @Grace McDade I guess it depends on the person. I dont mean to be shit but I've seen people having serious withdrawals and I never understood how that's even possible.
      I drank daily for 2+ years, 2 bottles of whiskey and 1 bottle wodka a day, also smoked drugs for 7+ years and one day just quit doing both. Besides the no sleep for a few weeks I never had any problems.
      To me an addiction is more like a habit. Youre used to drinking every day so you'll feel weird not doing it. Its no different than brushing your teeth. Find something else to replace that habit. And I still believe that once you make it past the first 2 weeks youre gonna feel much better mentally and physically so much that you dont want your streak to end.
      Im also of opinion that quiting isnt beating an addiction. Moderation is. Like... today I will drink and tomorrow I wont without any trouble. That kind of mentality. Nowadays I only drink during special occasions and I never want to go back to what I used to be. Life was so depressing last year because of it.
      Any way if youre struggling, I wish you the best of luck. And if you want to quit don't start with the thought that you'll quit forever. Try thinking I'll do it for just a day. Or two. No need to make it any harder for yourself. Make it past two days and drink a glass if you must, just try to keep the bottles down.

      Right. In my case, it's the opposite. I'm so annoying when I drink. I just become a 10x worse version of my current self, so I've grown to hate being drunk. But when i'm alone, being drunk can make me feel better sometimes.
      So, I only really drink occasionally because I love the taste of alcohol (I love strong flavours and so vodka is my favourite.)
      When I'm drunk, I only analyse things to an even more excessive degree and similarly to rusty's case, where he comes up with better ideas when drunk, I come up with better theories and answers regarding the things I over-analyse.
      Not a very healthy default mindset to be in, but I can't exactly help it.

    Alcoholism ran deep in my family. My dad grew up being physically abused by his drunk dad. I grew up being verbally abused by my drunk dad. I was depressed from 18-21 and took up drinking and taking pills to numb myself. Eventually slowed way down on my drinking and quit pills but when my girlfriend and I met ~7 years ago I started drinking a bit more. When we would drink a lot, we would always fight. I found myself saying mean shit to her or to my friends. I'd usually catch myself and have flashbacks to my dad being a prick to me and apologize or make sure to lighten up but the fact that I saw that in myself was a bit terrifying. Decided I didn't want to raise my kids to fear me at night like feared my dad. In the past 5 years I've only had probably 10 days where I've had a drink and it's always been a ton of fun. The very occasional day of drinking while golfing with friends or playing poker is great. Drinking every night regardless of your plans? Not so good. I know this video is years old but I hope Rusty has a good handle on his drinking now. The addiction really sneaks up on you.

Was the most active person i knew would routinely walk through all the city about 12 kilometers to pick me up at school, race trams from stop to stop running, fastest skier, basketball player and history enthusiast. The stroke left him unable to walk, no matter how he tried he didnt recover. I still see his quirkiness and kindness, but also sadness and the feeling of being powerless at times, sometimes it feels like he became a different person. While growing up he always told that what he did was the "wrong thing" and i never wanted to smoke and drink even more so after the accident. Guess it was a way to relax for him after intense training sessions, like for you. The gist is he still has the same gift he did but he is completely unable to use it due to a body condition. I play music too and one of the most terryfying things for me is that someday i something like that will happen and i just would not be able to express the feeling. While i was not an addict i had very serious problems with depression for me the way to get my lazy unwilling self together was a session or 2 of 20 minute meditation daily. Meditation is hard and sometimes really sucks but it got me where i am today with some help. Don't be afraid or think that you'll do without people who care about you, ask for help and embrace the suck of the situation, if it were easy everyone would be doing it the hard way.
    Good luck on your journey from a russian harmonica enthusiast)

    My grandpa was a very very big alcoholic, he was a drunk from about 14 to 70. because of this alcoholism, he left my dad at a very young age, and I, myself, wasn't allowed to see him. he was in and out of sobriety, and I believe the longest he went was 14 months. not too long ago (I'd say a few years) he died on the floor of his apartment, drowning in his own filth. many times before this he had attempted to kill himself, but this time it was the alcohol that did him in. im not exactly sure how it works, but I believe it runs through the family; my dad is also an alcoholic, and therefore I took it from him. its not nearly as bad as your situation or even my dad's, but I can feel it getting much worse in the future for me. I drink often when everyone's asleep. I'm glad to see you trying to fix a bad habit rusty, been watching you for a long ass time. I tend to find remembering that drinking isn’t a normal part of a natural human life helps, a lot of people have no problem drinking all the time so they make it look normal and then it becomes normal for you too. My brother is an alcoholic and I would drink with him everyday which lead me down a dark path. All I had to do is remember back to younger days when I wasn’t drinking everyday and return to that mindset. It can be extremely difficult though.

      ...you could argue that alcohol consumption actually is pretty natural though. when berries get slightly too old on a vine, in nature, they contain enough alcohol to get birds and small animals a little bit buzzed.
      those berries might have some other funky natural forming substances in there too though, not just drinking alcohol. they might have a little bit of what's basically natural vinegar, or some kind of bacteria, but not every time.

      @@lezanji1884 Some relatively recent paleontological hypothesis indicate that one of the main reasons human beings stopped being nomadic was so that they had an easier access to specific fruit for alcohol production. This in turn led to the other kinds of agricultural production that allowed us to feed a larger populace. Under this interpretation I think its fair to say drinking alcohol is quite a natural thing to do. Also let's not forge that alcohol consumption for most of human reason had the valid reason of being drank as water sources were frequently filled with disease and on top it was the best way to store water for voyages and travels

Honestly AA is pretty much a cult but does help a lot of people including myself in some ways. More from the fellowship than rhetoric. I support ya man. I know how long the 30 days will seem and hope you can get through the withdrawals without major side effects. I'm 21 yo, been drinking from 16 yo almost daily, I don't think I've got more than a 10 days straight without drinking in all these years. The first 3-4 years I was in denial, never acknowledged my problem, always threw lies like I wasn't drinking enough to be an alcoholic, but as the time passed, the quantity began to grow. I started from a bottle of wine a day, to 4-5 liters of beer per day, to a bottle of whiskey / vodka per day. But I never drank enough to be drunk, as in pass-out state, or in a 'losing balance' state, I just drank from morning till dark, small amounts, enough to get me dizzy and enjoying the day that I'd otherwise wouldn't.
    Its not easy to quit something that was with you daily, especially when all the people around you don't know that you're struggling with that. I'm 8 days sober now, I'll probably fail like I did many times before, but it's always worth the try. I hope you make it rusty, good luck to you.

My body finally can't handle it anymore. And my liver is damaged quite alot. So I've learned how to have fun being sober, and I'm getting alot of things done that I otherwise neglected because of .y drinking.

      @@Zener26Diode he's not gonna curb his addiction by stopping for a month, I'm talking from experience here, as an addict you just can't moderate.
      The physical addiction might go away, but the mental addiction stays with you for life. The only way to keep yourself in check is to not use at all. I know, cause I've been telling myself the same lie for years now. "I can moderate, I can keep myself in check" and you succeed at first, and maybe for a few months you're able to stick to it, but then slowly you'll start spiraling out of control again. First a little drink on mondays because "well it's basically still the weekend", to a drink on tuesdays too, cause "why not", escalating until you're getting wasted every day again and at some point years later you wake up and wonder where the fuck your life went.
      I really hope he's going to be able to realize that, and act accordingly. I know I'm still fighting it every day, so I wish him the very best of luck.
