    Great vid. My sons a catcher and this is what no one ever talks about.......the tools of catching. My son's Grandfather bought him the Stars and Stripes All-Star gear and a few parents would get upset when we told them no one else could use his equipment. I may even bring this type of lesson up to some of the coaches that hold clinics. Again great job.

      How would anyone feel about borrowing someone else's jock and cup or mouthguard? Same thing. Catcher's gear is more than just a baseball glove or a bat. Its an individual's personal protection equipment.

    This video just auto played, but it’s pretty darn informative. The Catchers coach explains the maintenance and wear of the equipment very well.

    I agree with the glove part because I was catcher for 2 games strait then I was out an inning and I let another kid use the glove and I couldn’t catch crap

  • @Kawinj
    @Kawinj Před 6 lety +8

    Good advice! It's tough for young kids (8-11) starting out catching to understand the importance of their gear fitting. The parents also need to take note of the importance too. How many times have you seen the little kid trot out behind the plate with the chest protector hanging down like an ill fitted suit jacket. Or the leg guards flopping around. I don't see this on the travel level, but at the rec level it's ridiculous. I get that they may have only one set for the team, but c'mon coaches, you have to get two sets for your kid's varying sizes. You can buy a used set on Craiglist for $50.00.
    I try to remind my son to keep the pocket of his glove from getting too dusty. Dry hot days tend to accelerate the layer of dust that can lead to the ball slipping, or squeezing out on tough catches. I'll usually put a little conditioner in the pocket before a game, and then he keeps a small towel in his bag to wipe the dust off between innings to maintain a slight tackiness.

    Would you be able to give feedback if I send you a video of my son in his gear? His chest protector fits but as soon as he squats into the catchers squat the chest protector jumps up to his face rather than staying in place.

    • @BaseballHouston
      @BaseballHouston  Před 6 lety +1

      That means the catcher gear is too long. He must get the catcher's gear to match the Torso correctly just like fitting on a new suit. Make sure you try it on and get it those positions before you buy. Or find out the size ahead of time through a dealership in the area

      Most likely the chest protector is to big for your body. I had the same problem mine wasn’t tight enough I went into big 5 tried on about 4-5 and I realized mine was to big . You probably need a smaller one Lowkey

    I get what your saying. But I would never tell a kid who wants to play and has nothing NO. You need to upen your humility game, and have a pause on sports before you just become a shit person... good tips but terrible attitude.....sad sports should never come before a child....

      I totally agree. Im a 16u catcher and my backup catcher got a new glove and couldn't stick a single pitch in our game. Gave him my glove and he improved 100%. Sometimes you really gotta suck up and help somone out.

    • @jockoadams3377
      @jockoadams3377 Před 2 lety

      Most towns have league-bought equipment they give to the team in order for players to learn how to catch. But its not reasonable for a catcher who's parents invested in their kids gear to be expected to share with someone else. Its their personal gear... its more than just a baseball glove or a bat. Its personal protection equipment sized to their body.
