  • We train catchers in Southern California but offer a remote training app for coaches and catchers across the country and the world.
    We have compiled a database of over 250 drills and exercises for catchers to train with. Please visit our website NextLevelCatchingAcademy.com (nextlevelcatch...) to learn more about this great training tool for catchers anywhere in the world. Train from anywhere and at any time. The app prompts and assigns drills for blocking, throwing, throwing, as well as these tag plays, mobility (flexibility), footwork drills, and arm-care.
    We are continuing to add content as the month progress. Our newest addition to the content is the exciting tag and bunt plays. Visit the website and subscribe to our "remote training" with the MaxOne app. Low cost, high value, and tons of opportunities to learn and grow.
    If you're interested in our catching-specific training content, we have a mobile app we've created for catchers around the country (and world).
    It allows you to take the quality instruction of NLCA camps and put them in your pocket, doing drills with your teammates or coaches.
    Follow the link to receive a systemized catching program for you or your catchers.

    Next Level Catching Academy fully understands the high demands of the position and the low opportunities that most catchers are given in a practice setting. We have received hundreds of requests for training videos and tutorials and although we have many videos on CZcams, we went ahead to create a systematic workout plan for our catchers. This workout plan puts all the best training drills into one location for you and gives you video tutorials on how to implement them properly.
    Our landing page for this remote training will have all the information needed for you to join this growing community. Visit us at NextLevelCatchingAcademy.com and learn more about this great program. Catchers can choose to receive the first week of training for free and can commit from there for any amount of time they desire. The commitment is 100% up to the individual, but while you wait to train, dozens of other catchers your age and in your area are training to level up. Our goal is simply to give catchers every opportunity to make gains and extend their level of impact and opportunities.

    Crazy how far receiving has come in just 5 years and how different it is now

      The slow-mo camera, K-zone and analytics finally caught up. It is a much bigger component than the big-wigs realized. At the MLB level it has almost gone to the extreme where catchers don't prioritize the blocking or throwing skill as much due to being all about receiving and catching off a single-knee stance. Something that we see being shoved down the minds of young high school catchers, most of whom are not quite ready to do it with runners on base.

      What I do is jump rope and you can use a Medicine Ball, place it in front of you, get in your stance and act like you're throwing to second and pick the ball up and get in a good throwing position.

      We were using three different machines here. One is an ATEC Casey, Sports Tutor Triple Play and the other was the ATEC Rookie machine.

    Hey, I’m new, why do I get my thumb pulled back every now and then when I catch? Any drill for me to improve that or do I need to grab the mitt in a certain way?

      My guess would be he means keep your thumb parrelel to the ground. If you turn you glove down, your thumb turns with it, and you're more likely to get hit in the thumb (something I do quite a bit as well...)

    Surprised that none of the kids catching take pitches on one knee.

      @NextLevelCatchingAcademy  Před 3 lety

      We have added in quite a bit of single knee catching, but we do not post all the work we put in while we train.
