  • Hello and welcome to another season of MSH here on CZcams.
    VIDEO no. 4
    Royal Mail Ship Titanic in 1/400 scale
    This is a first video in the series featuring Airfix R.M.S. Titanic in 1/400 scale with a ton of upgrades to the base model. It will be my first time taking on such a project and I am both scared and excited. The aim for this build is to finish it by the end of April 2023 because I want to show of this model at a SVM model show in May 2023. The reason for my second attempt at his Titanic is because I was not satisfied with the Revells model in the same scale. That model was just to old and it showed on every step of the way.
    I will list a parts list below, if you want to follow along with me:
    - Airfix A50146A R.M.S. Titanic 1/400
    - Flyhawk FH400001 R.M.S. Titanic upgraded kit
    - Master SM-400-004 Titanic mast set
    - Trumpeter 06624 Brass chains
    - Peddinghaus - Decals R.M.S. Titanic 1/400
    - Vallejo 71.646 Titanic color set
    - Additional paints:
    1) TAMIYA X1, X18, XF1, X22, XF86, XF53 (for roofs)
    2) AK interactive RC501, RC003 (main white color), RC050 (deck machinery), AK11100 (inner deck color "orange"), AK472 Gold (for ship screws and tops of deck tiedowns).
    Other items that appear in the video:
    Tamiya fine surface primer
    VMS Flexy 5K CA
    VMS TRANSPA FIX 6K (for transparent parts)
    Tamiya METAL PRIMER (for PE parts)
    Tamiya TS-29 (for the stand)
    AK672 Pale brass (for the name plack)
    Neodymium magnets N50 5x2 from Green Stuff World

      Thanks 😊 It's really a good model kit. Yes, the additions are daunting, but the end result is going to be worth it. 😀

    Admittedly my first thought was: Hasn't he suffered enough?! Then again it does look like a VERY promising start.

      Hi Rafael :) I was not happy with Revells Titanic that I had built with much pain early in this year. That model was awful 😖 This one, despite the numerous additional parts, is far more pleasant to assemble 😉

    Make sure to pick up the 1/400 Resin funnels from Model Monkey. Since they're accurate to real ship while the ones that come on the kit are way off. Though you will need to sand off the oval plastic that's on the kit decks so the funnels nicely sit on the tops of the deckhouses. The end result is more than worth it. They're stunners. Though, I will recommend using a hot knife to remove the funnels from the resin trees themselves, since it's tricky but more than possible.

      Hi 0311uli :) I know of these funnels. But I am still thanking abot this option :)

      @@Mysmallhobby I was having second thoughts also knowing its resin and they can easily break, and doing the alternative of modifying the kits funnels and losing the rivet detail it has, I was nah. I'm going to risk it, and get the MM funnels. The risk was well worth it. Think it over and see what you do. BTW, nicely done with the paint job on ur Airfix.

    I am preparing to get the trumpeter and was doing some research on the colors, particularly the anti fouling red/pink color, usually the kits offer a color that is too strong, too red or too brown, but looking at the photo of the wreck and the patch of color (some say it would've faded over the century) this is the closest match I've seen, even though I would prefer a bit more redish/coral hues to it.

    • @Mysmallhobby
      @Mysmallhobby  Před rokem

      Yes, the anti fouling red is a special colour :) I am pretty happy with the way it turned out on this build. It is a bit more dull because I added a flat varnish. If I left it as is, it would have been a bit richer. The first time I built a Titanic in 1/400 scale, I mixed my one paint. You can check out my Revell Titanic build. There I have instructions on how I mixed it :) I was more redish. 😀

      @maudale Před rokem

      @@Mysmallhobby Amazing, I'm just looking at it now! Most models do use a slightly more cadmium redish hue..
      Can you simply clean the parts with alcohol or do you really need to prime the pieces before painting them??
      Also, the colors need to be flat or matt right? and not glossy, for the red white and red colors of the hull?

    • @Mysmallhobby
      @Mysmallhobby  Před rokem

      @maudale Hi. I use both. Alcohol to degrees the part and primer to unify the painted layers. The main paints (red,white,yellow, and black) should be flat. :)

    I believe that the waterline on the Titanic should be some 12000 feet (or in scale about 9 meters or so) above the ship itself?

      @@Xyrofant1Hi. I typically use Tamiya fine surface primer in a can. I don't like primers for airbrush application. But yes, if you will use a airbrush primer, you will need to thin it down.
